Ok here is what I am finding more an more .. Denver seems to be Portlands only REAL rival in the division .. Utah is going to be good but no where near what they were last year .. especially with 3 new players all trying to learn the offense an defensive sets ..

Denver is now activly shopping around J.R. Smith .. Melo is on the fence (as of this thread) wether or not to resign with the Nuggets ..

Portland very well might run away with the Division this year .

What do you all think ?

Agreed.  Utah and Denver had Portland's number last year and both seem to have taken steps backward.  The future for the Thuggets seems particularly bleak.  My best to George Karl...
However, I try to never underestimate a Jerry Sloan coached team.  Of the two, Utah will play Portland tougher.  I question Billups, at this stage of his career, playing for the US as well in this offseason.  Look for a BIG slide from Denver.

The only true threat i see this year is Oklahoma City..If Denver is serious about trading both Melo and J.R. Smith then OKC is the only threat...still, Portland has more experience. I can see Portland making it to the Western Conference finals this year!

agreed .. No team out west has clearly upgraded.. Portland is finally healthy .. and with everyone back .. Portland will in my honest opinion win the Division .. and place no less then 3rd if not 2nd this year ..

I can see them making the WCF's this year as well..

We definitely have to be the favorites right now. Winning a division automatically gives you home court and an opponent with a worse record in the first round. That's the first step for getting to the second round. The Blazers are progressing just like they should. It's not happening overnight - but it is happening. This team still isnt even close to peaking either. Because of injuries and moves, we've never even really seen them play yet.

The division is going to come down to OKC and Portland. Utah's overall depth took a major hit this offseason. They inserted Raja Bell for the departed Wesley Matthews and Ronnie Brewer, have now rookie Gordan Hayward replacing the best 3 point shooter in all of the NBA last year in Kyle Korver, and probably pushed with Al Jeff in for Boozer, but I just don't see them being a legit threat to win the division, because they won't be able to win on the road.

As for the Nuggets, they worry me or shall I say they worried me. Nene really messed up his knees practicing for the worlds and he was a huge glue-guy for them and bullied us around last year. Birdman peaked in 09 and he will miss time early in the season due to his knee surgery. The noise surrounding Melo, Karl's health, and their overall knuckleheaded-ness could each individually derail that team, let alone any of the above factors combining together and going down. The combustible factor for that franchise is through the roof, which is why I don't see them winning the division.

Now, down to OKC and Portland. Whichever team can stay healthy will take it. Simply as that. I like a healthy Portland much more than a healthy OKC but anytime you have the most prolific scorer in the NBA on your team, the game can swing in a matter of minutes, and he's only getting better, which is why we need a healthy Oden down low to match Durant's effectiveness.

I agree with... most people here. It's gonna be a two-horse race between us and OKC, this year and probably for years to come. What scares me the most about OKC is that for them to have a successful offseason, they don't have to really add anyone as much as they just need to grow.

I never thought of that!  The Nuggets are going to stink!  So are the Jazz!  We could easily knock off the Thunder!  I'm just a little worried about the T'Wolves (JK).

sign Iggy for 8-9M, Batum at the two, and Wesley off the bench! Draft Steven Adams (who loves contact, grew up playing rug-bee). Sounds NICE!

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
