The Oregonian reported that GM David Cho "has maintained that the Blazers value Fernandez as an asset, and will not under any circumstance release him."

But Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports just tweeted: "Blazers guard Rudy Fernandez wants to return to Europe to play and has no interest in NBA trade, his agent Andy Miller told Yahoo! Sports."

If that's the case, and the Blazers are agreeable to this resolution, it's likely a buyout of Fernandez's contract will soon come, allowing him to return to Europe and continue his basketball career outside the NBA.

I would not buy out Rudy Fernandez, the Blazers would be setting themselves up for future players who might get pissed about playing time and make a demand to be traded or released. Simply can't do it. What if Bayless in the middle of the year is not happy about playing and does the same thing as Fernandez. Make an example out of Fernandez is what a good coach/GM would do.

Let Rudy go. A buyout means good riddance. He's exactly what we need to send a basketball message overseas. International surperstardom means Bupkiss state side when you play against the best in the world, which are found in the NBA. All flash, no substance. This guy had the audacity to say that McMillan doesnt let him play to his strengths. What strengths? Shooting from the outside is your job, and you did that inconsistently. His ball handling skills, and i use handling loosely, have been suspect from day one. You're a soaking wet 160lbs at the 2 spot! Are you kidding me. We were more than tolerant with your halfassed play, and your bouts of adolescent pouting. Go play with that other little twit Rubio, who essentially pulled the same crap on Minnesota. With the exception of the Gasol brothers, theres not another tough minded Spaniard coming stateside for some time. Serrgio, Rubio, and now Rudy Yo! get em outta here!

The term PGOTF makes me throw up in my mouth these days. I only hope they make a pg decision and stick with it while I'm still young enough to enjoy it ;)

Call me crazy, but I didn't get the feeling Portland will buy Rudy out from that article. The only way I can see them buying him out is if we can void the rest of his contract and he agrees to stay out of the NBA for 3-5 years.

Buy out? He owes us money. We should go after him for pain & suffering and punitive. I personally know two thousand fans that you could subpoena.

I think the byout is Mark Spears assessment of how the Blazers will respond. I heard on the radio today that Nate talked to him today and the question was asked of Nate, is Rudy going to show up. Nate responded, I don't know... meaning he left his meeting with Rudy with the possibility in his mind that Rudy may still play. Who knows. This might all be posturing by his manager because Rudy's not happy. Everything we read and hear is filtered for public consumption to forward the agenda of whoever realeases the information.

I for one hope that Portland and Rudy come to equitable terms. I firmly believe Rudy has the ability to play at his european MVP caliber game .. (if only he can find his game) and if that is the case keeping him would be the smart thing to do.

Rudy signed a contract .. which can be enforced . I've seen what its like to have unhappy players on your team and it totally disrupts the teams chem .. Buying his contract out or having him buy it out .. would seem to be the wisest choice so far if things can not be repaired.

Isn't the GM Rich Cho, not David Cho. From the interview I heard with Cho on the Bald Faced Truth yesterday, it sounds a lot like buying the contract out is the last thing on his mind. It really sounds like Cho is still trying to get fair markey value for him, but there aere so few teams that Rudy has whittled it down to that Portland has no room to work. I'm glad I'm no in the middle of that decision making process. Although, a fly on the wll cound be interesting

Good catch. Yahoo not getting the name right may seem to undermine their credibility, but I clicked on that Oregonian link and they got it right. Bad editing I guess.

agreed.  That is if the blazers are able to get an early first rounder in return, and that is a big if.
I am a fan of the Blazers draft selections. Feels good to finally be able to say that

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
