How lucky are we that Turkoglu walked at the 11th hour?

Last season, when i had heard that Turkoglu had bailed on Portland's offer and opted to play for Toronto, i was initially a bit upset. He had just come off a stellar playoff run, and seemed to be coming into career best form.. It seems now that his shortcomings (namely the defensive end) were masked by D12 and the rest of the supporting cast down in Florida.

To date he has played nothing like the 'Turkish Michael Jordan', not being happy with his playing time in Toronto, as well as having issues with the front office and coaching staff. Now he has been shifted off to Phoenix in hopes to revive that same play that got him his nice new contract.

Seeing these events unfold, i dont know what it would be like if he decided to play in Portland. One thing i do know is that we would not have seen the development and potential Batum brings to the SF position if we had accepted our offer.

Not only that, divvying up minutes at the 3 would have been even more challenging with Outlaw, Webster, Batum and Turkoglu.

Did the blazers dodge yet another potential European disaster?

In my opinion, we dodged big a bullet here and continued to move forward with our youthful roster. And as much as Dre Miller is put under a microscope for being older, not possesing a  consistent mid range jumper or perhaps not gelling quicker than expected, he seems better for our team than HT ever would have...

    Thoughts?

Great point downunder!  Like you, I was disappointed when he jumped at the last minute.  But that really ended up working out beautifully for the Blazers.  It's funny.  During the first part of last season, I kept checking the box scores for Toronto, specifically to see what type of numbers Turk was putting up.  And game after game, all I could think was, "man... KP dodged a HUGE bullet here.  Granted, we have a lot more talent than the Raptors, so there's really no telling what type of impact he would've made.  But I'm glad it worked out like it did.  Trailblazer fans should all send Mrs. Turk a big thank you card.

i forgot, isnt Mrs. Turk a pg on the Turkish team. We'd have been better off making her an offer, since she undoubtedly is the one that makes the decisions and smokes Camels.

I was one of the people who never thought Turk on our team was a good thing .. ever ..

I had thought he would come over and try to disrupt everything and try to take over the team .. his skillset is not that great .. (flop of a year as evidence of that) and he lacks defensive intensity of any kind .. (Phoenix will love him)

Thanks Turk's wife .. for assisting Portland in not getting your husband ..

What a blessing!!!  He would've taken away valuable minutes from Batum.  He's definitely not the same player he was during that Finals run with the Magic two seasons ago.

    GO BLAZERS!!!

Even if Turkey glue came here I still think Nate would have started Batum over him. :D

    GO BLAZERS!!!

His defense is the same, no where to be found. That is why I was so upset we made him an offer. I couldn't believe it. I mean they were in the NBA finals and he STILL wouldn't put in any energy to close out on Derrick Fisher, who is slightly known for hitting threes.

I love the Grit and Grind, and I love the Spurs timeless play. I think if the Spurs get to the finals, they will beat the heat, but they won''t beat the Grizzlies easily, and the Grizz can''t beat the Heat. I know it''s weird.
