I was listening to 1080 the fan today while at work (my favorite radio show), and Issac Ropp brought up a subtle, yet interesting point about Carmello wanting to leave Denver, and that will probably happen before the season tips off. If and when Carmello leaves, Chauncey Billups really has no motivation to stay on that team because they will be in the 7-8 range in the west at best. The nugs will definitely try to completely re-make their roster, and it would make sense to start by dumping a large contract.  Why would portland not make an offer to him? He is a veteran point guard with finals experience, and is an upgrade over Miller. Any thoughts on this?

I like what your thinking there. Billups is a step up from Miller and still has years in him. I tried a trade between Portland,Denver,New York, and Orlando, which sent Billups and Anthony Randolph to Portland and Melo to Denver. It worked out well for all 4 teams.

I would be excited at that prospect in every way, shape, and form...were it not for his age.  Billups WOULD be an upgrade, however, for how long?  Right back to musical chairs at PG again (to borrow a term from Kim):)  I believe the Nuggets team will be blown up at some point this season (or before), regardless of what Mello does

What Im thinking is do we really even need a points guard? Andre miller fits with the blazers and hes doing very well. Shouldnt we be trying to find a person to replace rudy when hes gone or find a 6th man like manu ginobli or something

IF we really did need to go 100% full throttle for a PG....Billups would be the man to make a B line for. You gotta love his veteran experience, his leadership, court IQ....He's a pass-first PG who can do amazing things as im sure we've all seen, work ethic is off the charts and he still can shoot the ball extremely well. BUT....for how long would he be here? Who knows....Andre said he wants to play 4 more years in the NBA, so Billups has to have at least a couple good years left in him. Although this is all rumors....just givin my 2 cents.

Using the trade machine on ESPN (link wouldn't work posting it on here) I had the Nuggets recieving Tony Douglas, Eddy Curry, Andre Miller, Joel Przybilla, and Bill Walker. Blazers recieving Chauncey Billups and Wilson Chandler. Knicks receiving Carmello Anthony and Rudy Fernandez. In real life draft picks and cash considerations could be used so these names wouldn't necessarily be used, but the salaries match with the draft machine so it works in theory.  It increases our win total by five games (very good), knicks by just one game, and decreases denvers by 10 games. Sounds good to me!

i been saying we should get billups.. denver already has ty lawson to take his place billups has 1 yr  left on his contract so it only makes sense for denver to trade him only thing is i doubt they wanna trade him to us unless they are desperate to rebuild that team... carmelo anthony and tony parker will become knicks or brooklyn nets regardless of what happens. we'd have to convince the nuggets that it is in their best interest to go young. but our best bet is to do a multiple team trade that way all parties are happy

Billups is a great fit alongside Roy, very Terry Porter-like. The only questions is, what would Denver want? No to Oden, Roy, Aldridge, Batum. One would think they would have to go ahead and rebuild completely, so we could offer a ton of expirings and a couple of our young players to make it work. Even then, I'm not sure that package would be enough.

Well to plays devil's advocate..for those who love Dre and want to keep him here, he is 34 years old and Chauncey will turn 34 is September. So both players probably have the same amount left in the tank. It's not like we're talking about 37 year old Steve Nash here.

Man you guys are like kids on christmas eve, thinking that every good player is just gonna decide to come down Portlands Chimney, well NEWSFLASH**

They're NOT. If Portland had maybe gone to the playoffs for the past 3 consecutive years, and gotten past the 1st round once or twice yeah, but thats not the case is it. Billups has a long list of teams to go through before his mind even thinks of portland.

Yeah if he has a no trade clause... if a team trades a player he doesnt necessarily get to choose where he is traded to. Its not an issue of whether Billups would be giddy about a trade here, but rather if our gm would make a run at him.

Well the way these players are today, i wouldnt be surprised if a player got traded to a team he didnt like and didnt give %100 each night, because no where in a contract does it mention anything about effort.

Portlands going to win the division this year ..

The Nuggs have the ability to make it harder then it has to be ..

With Melo its going to be harder, but still Portland will win the division ..

With out Melo its not even questionable .. Portland will easily win the Division..

You say that now, and i bet you Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson though they would sweep the Thunder.
Ima laugh when Durant puts Batum on a PHAT POSTER. Dont get so cocky  so early, other wise Brandon Roy could be shooting 6-24 in game 2 against the thunder, just like Kobe Did, and with Russel Westbrook getting another year to better his skills, oh man, its anything but Portland winning the Division

I think we should just let the Nuggets fall apart and not get involved.  Why would we want to unload a heap of money on another 34 year old point guard?  NOT WORTH IT!

I dont care what the Denver Thuggets do. Move Melo to the east coast.Put a marble in Yao's sneakers.  Milsap is all alone in Utah. Nene & Anderson wont start the season. Bynum & Gasol vs. Oden & Aldridge. WCF. blazers in 7.

I love Billups, i think he is one of the most under rated players in the NBA, but he is a short term answer to a long term problem, we need to stick with youth so the team can grow together for years to come.
