chadfordinsider Breaking: Hornets, Rockets, Pacers & Nets working on 4 team deal. Ariza to NO. C. Lee to HOU. Collison & Posey to IND. Murphy to NJ.
Man, it's hard to think we couldn't match that offer for Collison. Either we missed the boat or our staff isn't that high on him. Also, say bye-bye to the CP3 dream, because it looks like they are keeping him. Although I don't know for how much longer if they think Ariza is an upgrade in talent over Collison. Great deal for the Pacers if this is true though!

    Done Deal pretty much-
chadfordinsider Four team trade between Hornets-Rockets-Pacers-Nets has been agreed to in principle. Awaiting trade call. http://es.pn/9kxM7n
Who plays SF for the Rockets now when Battier goes out? He's well over 30 and he can't play large chunks of minutes.

They have to move Collison to keep CP3 happy. Imo, part of the reason he is upset in NO,is Collison made him look replaceable last season if you really think back.

I agree they had to move Collison to maximize their assets to make a team around CP3 better, but they gave him away. Ariza is a system player and was made to look like a stud with the Lakers but as a 2nd/3rd option, he's pretty mediocre. These moves not only have made NO worse but can't have CP3 too thrilled either.

houston has buddinger or w.e who they want to get more  p.t... and yeh i pretty much think indiana ran away with this trade... its not that we couldn't get a trade done for 1 of new orleans pg's its simply they do not want to give us any more ammunition to add to our already loaded team. they know we are just 1 piece away & monty williams wants no part of that.... with that said what pg's are left?

I wonder if Cho's run at Paul being rejected opened up discussion for Collison - and that was the bigger deal Cho had cooking that was priority over dealing with Rudy. Still wondering what that was. Collison would have been a pretty cool consolation prize if we couldn't have Paul. Oh well.

Check out my post on 7-23, "Everybody Wins".  I called this.  Everybody wins...but Portland.  Now TWO of the PGs in this league that would have been upgrades to Miller have just gone away.  Who's left?  I wondered in the beginning when Cho first took the reins if all of the research and number crunching, all of the statistics and data collecting might actually work AGAINST him.  The TIME that it takes to prepare for something SO thoroughly may be TOO MUCH time.  On one end of the spectrum, you've got guys like Whitsitt and Kahn, who probably don't put in ENOUGH time and research and act too hastily.  Many times this leads to what later is determined to be a mistake, be it a bad contract, troublesome personality, whatever.  On the other end, I believe, sits Cho.  Like Hawes said, I sure hope that neither of these players were targets, because IF they were...class dismissed.  Rudy still sits a Blazer with the few teams that had expressed interest, moving on and signing other players.  I too, would like to get value for value for Fernandez.  However, wouldn't SOMETHING in return be better than NOTHING...which is where that situation seems to be headed?  If nothing else, he's occupying a roster spot.  Any one of us on this site would be a better fit in that spot than Rudy.  I would accept less in pay, and I would absolutely play like my life depended on it should I be fortunate enough to see any minutes..."scrap" for Nate.  LOL.  My level of frustration is beginning to grow :)

Geez, it's not the end of the world. Also, I would not put blame on Cho, he just got here! This was the biggest free agent market in history and what did our front office do this year? They fired the GM ON DRAFT DAY and they fired his assistant way before that! They knew what time it was and they SHOULD have handled it much better/sooner. The team took way too much time to resolve the obvious problem since March and now you are asking if Cho's number crunching takes too long? That is ridiculous. I'd rather have him take a little more time collecting all the data getting the right guys instead of us getting extremely lucky and having Hedo bailing on us in the last second (thank God!) I think you also need to factor in the time it will take for Cho to get settled in and completely understand his role, his place in management, what he can and can not do and getting a full feel for what Allen wants to be done. I'm sure the GM position is an extremely vast and diverse job so it will take time. That is why the team should have handled it much sooner.

One more thing, Andre Miller was the best and most consistent player we had last year, our team mvp if you're honest about it. i just don't understand why fans want him out. Just because he is not a good 3 point shooter? If you ask me our team jacks up way too many threes at times anyway, I'm glad we finally have a point guard who can actually drive and dish and see the court 10 times better than our previous pg. I also think that running our offense through Roy all the time is what gets us in trouble because it is so predictable. I would understand it more if he averaged a lot more assists, but he doesn't. If we'd run a better offense where we quit getting one guy collapsed on at the end of the shot clock with a bail out pass to Miller for a last second 3, he will look much better. Because he is better than that. Our team should be better than that. Collison had a good rookie year. So did Fernandez. I wouldn't want to be hasty in replacing Andre who has proven himself for 11 years in the NBA for a guy that has been here one. Portland fans are weird. Blake was lame and everyone wanted him to stay. Dre was really good, a team leader on the court who played well with anyone, including Roy and now everyone wants to get a new pg.

TomL...I agree with almost every one of your points.  I didn't like Blake in a Blazer uniform either.  I loved him as a person and respected his feisty nature and his work ethic.  True, his jumper was very complimentary to Roy's game, but IMO that was all he had...a one-trick pony.  He worked hard on D, but just couldn't deny penetration and the collective breakdown that would result, at least not on a consistent basis.  Blake was, as you indicated, more of a 2, or at least...not the stereotypical type of PG.

I also agree with you about AM.  I am a huge fan of Dre.  His strengths saved the teams season last year, but I fear his weakness (perhaps his one and only) will HURT this team this year, with a healthy roster.  Roy had to fight thru too many defenders too often, and his body just simply can't sustain that much longer.  The reason Miller is being talked about in trade discussions really has as much, if not MORE to do with his contract expiring than his lack of perimeter shooting ability.  That and his age.  He is the quarterback of this team, their PG, their facilitator.  Ideally, you would like to have the player in that key position, be part of your core that plays together for many years, the more the better since it extends the championship window.  Andre is not that guy.  Aldridge, Roy...mid 20's.  Oden, Batum...even younger.  BRoy's window is closing and there exists a feeling of urgency amongst the Blazer faithful.  Roy has carried too much of the load for too long, and his body is beginning to suffer.  He knows this and has taken steps this summer to help offset the general deterioration.  With missing pieces needing to be added, and the team at or over the cap, expiring contracts become very valuable.  Hopefully this helps?  It's the long term we're talking about here.  Not the short term.

First need is a centre. And no one will take ten and 13 for 4th or 5th. After like the 10th pick the talent off is huge.
