    ESPN's Projection of Portland's 49 wins is...
    Too High (4)
     6%
    Too Low (60)
     83%
    Right On (8)
     11%
    From ESPN-

    5

    *Portland Trail Blazers 49 33 .598 50 32 .610
Portland appears to be a postseason perennial despite front-office turmoil and myriad injuries. And now, with the West in transition (below the Lakers), this season looks like an open invitation for Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden to take the Blazers past the first round of the playoffs for the first time in 11 years.

So, assuming we're healthy, ESPN feels we will decline in wins where we won 50 games with 311 games missed due to injury. I sense some fuzzy math on ESPN's part. Oh well, keep sleeping on us media.

Yeah, I didn't get that either, the first thing I said to myself was "Less wins?" though they say we should get past the first round. Hmmm - how about same or more wins and 2nd round? :-) Of course, without all those injuries, those goals should be within reach.

healthy team gets us 49 wins what a joke not only does that make no sense think of this: the longest road trip is four games. Why is Oklahoma City ranked ahead of us when they had only one good season? but we have been improving every year, why not this year?  With espn's thinking I'm surprised the Clips and Kings are not in the top five.

Though I like flying under the radar, I feel almost insulted with #5!  A healthy squad and more starting quality centers than many divisions.  Really?!  Factor in the west losing strength to the east and this ranking becomes even MORE questionable.  I wonder how different their rankings may look after Cho works his magic?

my guess is 55 wins at least. espn should think straight just once at this. mos D in matthews which was a weakness, BRoy not hurt, Batum here for the beginning of the year, rudy's back healed and hes under pressure for a trade? are u serious espn? now we have 2 of the heat 3 covered, batum on lbj matthews on wade then u have camby/oden/LA on bosh. its no question we get ATLEAST 55 wins...

My number for this season is 60. A last second attempt rims off by Roy and a blown call by the officials , we end up with 58.

49 - is an insult. not to mention wacked reasoning. the west didn't get any better. I know we did.

i think we're more than 5th place.  and 49 wins?  NO WAY!  If ESPN is assuming we remain relatively healthy, then that's not even a good estimate.  we won 50 with SO MANY INJURIES!  like I say, espn is soooo smart (dumb) when they say Oden is a bust.  they're even dumber to believe a healthy blazers team can't win more than around 49 games.  they're also even DUMBER for not payin any attention to us last season.  they'd definitely be really.... unsmart... if they don't pay close attention to us this up and coming season.  but they'll soon have to.  it's the inevitable.

once again, the blazers get no respect, 58wins number 2 in playoffs, refs hand the lakers the series in 6 in the western finals. blazer fans get fined for speaking the truth about getting unfair calls. aldrige gets elbowed and picks up a tech for no reason, oh wait that was last year

Dude it really all comes down on Oden, if Oden was out like how Perkins is, then the Blazers would be laying low, way down there. If Oden can get through the first game we can talk about playoffs, take it one game at a time, for the past couple years its been" Get to playoffs, we will get there" and then you lose one leg of your Tri-Pod (in Roy, Aldridge, and Oden) and everything comes crashing down. Theres no rush to get to the playoffs, just think one game at a time and they should do fine. ESPN isnt "dumb" their just playing this team by ear, so far the injuries have kept coming back, 2 years in a ROW now that Oden has been out, their just making a calculated guess.

A few of you say that the west didnt get any better but we did. Please show me the logic on that. What have we done except let Oden heal, and practice more, we've got a backseat full of unexperienced guys, where as you got Denver, who's angry that for the second year in a row they got themselves pretty far, only to come up short. OKC, who apparently are more tough than everyone thought....wait wait, than Kobe thought. Expect them to come out firing with Durant putting everyone on posters, they snagged Tyrus Thomas, and you can look forward to T-Time being alot more efficient this year. Not to mention Los Angeles and the Lake Show, who turned last year into the Lake Lake show, you got Phil who wins em in bunches of three, and you know he's going to end his career with a !.
I think the blazers have a tough road ahead of them this year, unless their all healthy, focused, persistent and they keep their composure. Like i said, take one game at a time, all of the players, McMillian for sure knows what he's doing and more importantly what he's gotta do, to push these guys without breaking that chemistry.
The Blazers work better when they're all on the same page, synchronized like a clock, and its only a matter of time before they get to the Finals.

49 wins? fifth seed? since when has espn been into the comedy business? how about a few points of interest:

    1. last season, eight teams won 50+ games and all made the playoffs. this season, according to espn, only three will win 50 games (presumably, denver will also win 49 and win a tiebreaker over us to win the fourth seed -- then we'll beat them in the first round! lol).

    2. we won 54 games two seasons ago, so according to espn, a healthy blazers team will spiral downward even though we apparently are a "postseason perennial."

    3. the teams projected to finish ahead of us haven't improved nearly as much as espn projects. oklahoma city got younger with all those draft picks, and denver and dallas didn't really do all that much. the lakers? well, they drafted a couple of forwards and signed a blazer reject pg. no improvement there.

    4. speaking of the projected higher seeded teams, we had winning records last season against the lakers, thunder and mavericks. we certainly have the capability of beating any of these teams on any given night; that could come into play when it comes to determining tiebreakers.

    5. we have a pretty favorable schedule (i.e. no road trip over four games). that alone should be more conducive to a couple of more wins over last season.

    6. we have three starting centers. if, God forbid, one goes down, we still have two (and LaMarcus as well).

all in all, i'm not impressed  with espn's analysis. furthermore, i question it. they said there were 93 voices of input ... how many of those do you think were located on the east coast and southern california?

my prediction: we'll be in the 57-58 range and will battle for first seed in the west right down to the wire ... and we might even win that battle.

it's not all riding on oden, we got 50 without him and if he were to go down we have the thrilla and/or camby to fill the spot for the whole season. batum is only getting better, word is roy looks better than ever, LA gets better every season and should easily be an all star this season. we have easily top 3 strongest benches in the league.

I think without Oden, ESPN has it right on the money. With him though, I think we could take down the Lakers as the #1 seed. Now, I didn't say we would beat them in the playoffs, but they are a vet team who may coast a bit during the regular season much like the Spurs used to do to ramp up for the playoffs, meaning we could have Home Court throughout the West.

had we had the lakers rather than the suns last season, without greg oden, we most likely would have taken the series. if kevin durrant can take it to game 6 by himself, im pretty sure a dwindled blazer squad could destroy the lakers, we beat them reg season with no roy when they had kobe. and the last game where we beat them was not them handing us the game no matter what the media says, they still wanted to secure home court against the magic in case they met in the finals. that was a simple kobe/fisher choke and a martell webster with ice water in his veins.

I have great difficulty in understanding how the Blazers will have less wins than last season, with 300+ player games missed due to injury, when healthy, in a conference that didn't really get better during the off-season. Sure, the Lakers might have improved a smidge, and the Jazz somehow managed to not only clog the bleeding, but actually put themselves about where they were last season (provided they remain healthy), and Yao is returning, but seriously, how did the great minds at ESPN determine we would be WORSE this season? Whatever, I don't care. History has shown that Blazer squad across the eras play best when the odds and mass opinion are stacked against them. This can only serve to motivate them even more than they already are. I think 2nd seed in the West and 55+ wins is completely realistic. Can we do it without Oden? Perhaps not as high, but we will definitely continue to improve. Too much growth and too much talent for it to be otherwise, imo.

I just can not see Portland winning anything less then 55 this year. Healthy this Blazer team beat all of the top teams out west ... easily ..

Portland is thee only team in the last two years to either tie or have a winning record against the Lakers, and with a Healthy Oden .. Portland will dominate that matchup rather easily .. when both are healthy (Oden/Bynum) Oden has already shown he dominates Bynum .. swatting him time an time again as well as dunking on him like its childsplay ..

A Healthy Oden an this Portland team can in fact challange for the 1st seed .. the entire year ..

    No doubt in my mind.

You know, I thinK ESPN has it low, too, but I think its all about our big 3 (w a 3-headed monster at the 5Oden, Roy, and Aldridge) and sorry, but what about Rudy and who we may get for him.  Its looking like a hard trade but we should get someone good in return (hopefully a good PG).   Take into account Wesley Matthews and a 3 headed monster at center we should pull out a 57-25 and a FINALS APPEARANCE!!   GO BLAZERS!!!!!

Portland will not have any competition for the division (Okc is not going to be as good as Portland, and Utah is going to take a year till thier new players are all on the same pg defensive/offensive set speaking)

Your stuck with Pryz, who is the most projected center to be traded from the team, thats not good odds. You also got a lot of new cats on the bench this year, you  dont know how the chemisty is going to work. Not to mention you got the damn AntiChrist in Fernandez who is throwing fits left and right, is that the kinda of bench you want to rep?

If Oden Goes down, you got last seas all over again.Apparently Camby's too old, and LA is and has been great the whole time, if ya'll would quit riding him so hard maybe he could focus on his game. Your stuck with Pryz, who is the most projected center to be traded from the team, thats not good odds. You also got a lot of new cats on the bench this year, you  dont know how the chemisty is going to work. Not to mention you got the damn AntiChrist in Fernandez who is throwing fits left and right, is that the kinda of bench you want to rep?
last season, between Marcus, Greg and Joel, our true starting centers played in only 81 games. if only one center goes down, we still have about twice that.

yes, Joel is the center most projected to be traded. however, that's not a knock on him. if anything, it proves he has the trade value which would be attractive to several teams. Joel could start on many teams in this league, including some playoff contenders. you just can't sell him short. besides that, there are other factors which come into play when talking about projected trades.

Joel's contract fits within a lot of trade scenarios better than Greg or Marcus'. Greg is our number one draft pick and still planned to be our franchise center; and Marcus will likely finish his career as a blazer. this makes them unlikely to be traded, at least at this point.

those and a pletora of other reasons are why Joel's name has been mentioned more in trades than Marcus or Greg.

Going into the season with these three guys (btw, the latest projections are that Joel will be ready for opening night) is a very good thing, but the fact of the matter is, we have three centers, not just two. a team can survive with two, though it'd be nice if we could get full seasons out of these guys. optimistically speaking, the prospect of that alone puts us in a position to increase our win total and progression in the playoffs.

on the other note, hopefully we move Fernandez before the season starts. no disagreement with his whiny attitude of late.

ESPN is crazy. Blazers at 5 and Thunder at 2?
TayC you are always worried about Oden going down again.
Kassandra I bet you got plethora and patella mixed up when you said pletora because you had Greg and Joel in that same sentence.

And we need Greg! Maybe not so much to reach 50+ wins, but we definitely need him to get the experience during the regular season, because if we want out of the first round, we need Greg to be the beast that he is in the playoffs. I love Joel and Camby, but Camby is getting old and Joel has pretty much ZERO offense. Basically I could care less about the regular season record as long as we get into the playoffs, but there is no way we get less than 50. ESPN is ridiculous. I heard they are moving their studio into the Lakers locker room anyway.

So Camby's getting old, and Andre Miller's not too old?
hahaha. How does that work?  Im only worried, because if he does go down, then im only going to watch LeBron James Play, and i like watching Portland play, but without Oden, whats the point?
ESPN aint crazy, they just do their homework.

Camby is 2 years older than Miller. In one or two years I will say the same about Miller. And i guess we can see what kind of fan you are now. You will only watch Lebron!? That is lame and it explains your lack of basketball i.q and love for the extremely biased ESPN.
The point is the Blazers are my team and I will watch them even if Oden is hurt or even if the same thing as last year happens again this year. I will not resort to watching Lebron only like a chump. Besides, it's boring to watch Lebron because everything looks so easy for him, and then all of a sudden in the playoffs he can't do squat.

    And ESPN is crazy.

Well well, you must be a lebromancer. Especially if you watched the Boston Cleveland series and you still "LMAO !!"
But the main point is they didn't even make it to the finals the last two years, and they had the best record in the league both years. LMAO !!

The fact that you can not accept that advancing in the playoffs is attributed not to a single player .. but to the team as a whole .. makes me question your overall judgement .. or hatred of Bron ..

I am sad to see such non-logic from fellow Blazer fans ..

What you said is like saying, you dont like watching Jordan, because he is too good. "I dont like watching KoBe because he hits incredible 3pointers."
hahah. W/E. Keep haiting, i feed off of it.
All im saying really though about "YOUR" team and their projected western conference standing

Without Oden, THIS TEAM WILL NOT WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP. thats it. Talkin about LeBron? PsHshshshsHH

I was saying you are a bandwagon fan, you only like the team when they are doing good, it had nothing to do with how much I hate Lebron... ok maybe a little. But of course I agree that with a healthy Oden we would do much much better and it will be much more fun to watch, I just would still watch even if he went down again! Honestly, I know I am not eloquent with my words and I am not the most diplomatic, but I was not hatin. Except for Lebron. I also know he is the most talented player in the league, but I hate his huge ego and attitude.
