In this spare time of mine, I just want to write something.  And this something is about complaints about LaMarcus Aldridge.
It's loud and clear that some people just hate LaMarcus Aldridge, giving him nicknames that suggests he is a soft, weak player.  People complain with his size and skill, and he should be playing harder and stronger, grabbing more rebounds, etc.
I hear you guys.  Your complaints have given me a different point of view.  I agree with you guys, but not strongly.
But wait!  Now you guys want to trade him!?  Before I go on, I must say that some fans aren't that bright at all.  I was listening to this radio show one night (Wheels at Work?  It's with that A.C. Coleman guy, or something like that), and I hear fans say after Game 1 of the 2010 playoffs things like : "Oh, we can win without Brandon Roy... Brandon Roy is great and all, but we don't need him to be a great team...Brandon Roy is not a huge factor to our success.."
Seriously?  Those aren't necessarily the exact quotes, but it's along the lines of that.  And... what happened on the game Roy returned to?  Yeah...
Back on topic, you guys now want to trade Aldridge... okay...  Let me point out some things that might change some of the hater's point of view out there...
    1. The Playoffs.  Okay, so we lost in the first round again.  I blame the bad luck we had that year.  Who wouldn't?  During the intense atmosphere of the Playoffs, we all expect our players to play harder than ever.  So all eyes on Aldridge.  We all watch him play, and while his offensive gameplay wasn't bad(I thought it was good), you all complain that he doesn't get enough rebounds.  And I can't argue with that.  With the loss of two great centers(Oden and Przy, but with the addition of Camby), we all expect him to grab more boards.  But he didn't.  I won't stop you from arguing about the rebounds, but trade him?  Okay, his shooting percentage in the playoffs might not be all that, but we did depend on him to score, and that's what he did.  He didn't necessarily  make up for the lack of Roy, but he did his best to step his game up.  What I'm saying is: GIVE HIM SOME CREDIT!
    2. Trade.  Okay.  Let me take that thing from OregonLive and say this... "You be the GM".  You have Aldridge.  And since you are the GM, you have the ability to trade him.  Now I ask you this: Who do you trade Aldridge for, realistically.  You guys can have a little creativity and toss in other players if you want.  I don't know who you guys would trade him for, but for the sake of this post, I'll just say... Paul Millsap.  His name seems to come up in these kind of talks, and apparently, we want him because he's a banger.  I did stat check on him, and he actually did well in the Playoffs.  But looking at the regular season stat... I noticed that his RPG dropped from 8.6 to 6.8, and while he did had about 3 minutes less to play, that doesn't seem like it should be a huge factor.  Now here's where I'm getting at.  Let's say we have that player you guys wanted to trade for with LaMarcus.  I cannot think of any other PF with a near value as Aldridge in this league that can do what you guys want(Boards, Field Goal %, whatever) hat would have helped us survive in the Playoffs-- in fact, I don't know if we would even be in the Playoffs with that guy.

So, for LaMarcus Aldridge, just be satisfied with where we're at right now.  He's also consistent in terms of how many games he played.  So for all you haters, either keep on complaining, or start being supportive fans and hope he gets an increase in boards, blocks, FG%, etc.

If you have any comments, ideas, or want to point out something that I said wrong, feel free to do so.

I have always said that LA is soft because he shy's away from contact down low and would rather shoot 17 ft jumpers all night. With that been said he is a PERFECT fit for this team and especially with Oden. Talk of trading LA in one word is .............STUPID and it comes from people who don't know the game.

In a interview in Vegas during summer league LA,  had stated that he was working on his over all strength and getting stronger. When a player knows what his weakness is and is busting his ass in the off-season trying to fix it......as a fan what else can you ask for.

There is only a handful of guys I would trade LA for in a heartbeat...none of which are available at all.

So as I've been saying, he's never going to be the player I thought he was going to be once upon a time, however he is an effective 3rd or 4th option in the offense.

LA has come along way since his rookie year. Lets look at this in a differant perspective. All through the year you are tearing up the boards and are the definate #2 man on the team in scoring. Playoffs come along and you bring your B game to most of the series? I only got a few of the games up here in Alaska but IMO I did not see LA step up to his true potential especially when Brandon was out, outside of game one. The regular season dont mean squat if you cant do it better in the playoffs or at least the same. Another Ray Allen we do not need. Now I am willing to chalk some of this up to injuries and bad karma and the team being young. Will you still defend him next year if we lose in round one and he puts up lame numbers again for being the # 2/1 guy? I know I wont, not getting the money he is getting.

There is a guy in Dallas that comes to mind every time I hear this tired old argument resurface.  A perennial all-star, a 7-footer who plays the 4.  Yes, I am referring to Nowikski.  For much of HIS career, Dirk has been characterized by many as being "soft" also.  Do you think that is what is running thru his head as he gallups down the floor every year on All-Star Sunday?  Probably not.  Truth is, I think he has survived that criticism quite well.  LaMarcus is very similar.  "Soft"?  Maybe, but only when you compare him to the "prototypical" power forward of the past, the Karl Malone's of yesterday.  Fans need to stop focusing on the things Aldridge DOESN'T do well, and start focusing on the things he DOES do well.  Bottom line here, is that "soft" doesn't mean "ineffective".  LA's skill set is a unique one and one that would NOT be easy to replace.  I would like to see him improve his back-to-the-basket game, learning to get lower backing in.  He is too upright.  This, though, is a reasonable expectation and something I believe we will see him add to his game next season.  Having him be a 10-12 rebound a game guy...not so reasonable.  LA and his skill set, fit this roster perfectly when everyone is healthy.  Chemistry has been largely responsible for the overachieving we've all witnessed this team do, and LA has been a big part of that.  Aldridge has perhaps the best set of hands in the league at his position, something that will pay more dividends if the Blazers run more next year.  LA, like Dirk, will be an all-star...silencing his critics

No one will hate on him when they see him actually get to play the position he is meant to.  He is not a center.
Since drafted he had to wait for Zbo to be moved, and we are all still waiting for Oden to stay on the court.
As for missing team USA, maybe he has something more important going on, and it's his business.

    Wait . . . so you're telling me to be content with a player that's under-performing and hasn't improved since his second season.  OK . . .

@FamousRoy:  Only to a certain degree.  If you really want to hate(dislike, if you find hate to be too strong of a word for now) on Aldridge, that's fine.  But my super main point is to be happy with what we have.  If you are disappointed in the way he's playing and are expecting more, fine.  But if you're one of those super haters who really want to trade him, that's when I think you kinda crossed the line.  Who would you trade Aldridge for, realistically?  And who ever you got from the trade, would they have helped us survive the playoff the way Aldridge did?  No, Aldridge didn't turn to a super star or anything, but I can't think of any other PF in the league we could realistically obtain that would give us the offense LMA provided.
So here's to hoping Aldridge makes that next step this up and coming season.

Lamarcus is young. Every little thing he does each off season will just add to his arsenal. He already has a nice/silky smooth jumper. That's hard to teach most big men. I also think he's a good passer out of the post.  He can add more low post moves. He can add tenacity as a rebounder. And i have faith he will work hard to step his game up. Plus we have Buck Williams now to guide him. I say he'll be flirting with All Star nods this year. 2 more months until the season starts .... can't wait

To be honest I could care less if Lamarcus becomes an AllStar. That should not be the ultimate goal, though it should be a byproduct. I just hope he isn't going to end up like Dirk, without a Championship, so I think that is a ridiculous analogy. Plus Dirk is a MUCH better shooter and clutch performer so he can actually get a way with not rebounding as much. And Lamarcus has the best set of hands at his position?!?!?!? ha ha!! You have to give him a perfect pass otherwise he bobbles it all the time!! (That's why I like Andre, passes are on the money)

Also I want to clarify I am not a Lamarcus hater, I am a disappointer. It's like he'd rather learn music on Guitar Hero instead of learning on a real guitar. I think Lamarcus doesn't concentrate on putting forth the effort into things needed to play at a higher level, which he is easily capable of playing at, and instead he'd rather work on shooting 3's in the offseason. YES, I EXPECT HIM TO AVERAGE 10-12 REBOUNDS A GAME!!! Why? Because he can!!! He has proven it! He absolutely has flashes of brilliance, and even dominance. So we are NOT focusing on things he doesn't do well. We are focusing on things he doesn't do consistently. That is my problem with him. It's all mental and it's only when he wants to. Well maybe we should only pay him when Paul Allen wants to. Another thing is I sure wish he'd step up his D! That is another thing he only does occasionally when he wants to. In no way do I accept that we should just be happy with what we have and not want him to play up to his potential, so please people quit saying that because it is a cop out that short changes us and especially Lamarcus himself.

I think Hopman just might be LMA.  LaMarcus if that is you, love your fluidity with the rock son, but i need more. I need you to get me 12 boards for eighty two games. At the end of the day, muscle without heart is about as useful as a used condom. You have to impose your will on the game. Im confident that you'll shut plenty mouths this season. Also, at your age, theres no at your skill level worthy of your ouster. you're going to be a Blazer for a long time.
