PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Trail Blazers signed rookie guard Armon Johnson, General Manager Rich Cho announced today. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

“We feel Armon can help this team and are excited to have him on board,” said Cho. “He’s a physical guard who can defend, and we like his potential.”

Selected by the Trail Blazers with the 34th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, Johnson led Portland’s 2010 Summer League entry with 33.2 minutes per game, averaging 11.6 points (fourth on team), 2.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists (second on team) and 2.20 steals (led team) in five games (all starts).

Way to go AJ! Going from a Now that Portland has officially signed Armon Johnson, what will his role be? What can we expect from him during his rookie year? Personally, I think if we signed him even though our back-court is crowded, we must have liked what we saw during Summer League, so he should get some time next year.

Congrats to Armon, nice to see most of the additions so far this off season are defensively strong.

Where does this put Mills? Are we trying to keep both guards? I remember MB saying something during Summer League about Mills and his rights...so we can get something for him, or whatever.

So, when does the other shoe drop? Does this mean Patty is out? Does this mean Rudy and/or Bayless is traded? What is the shoe that drops? What happened at the meeting today between Cho and friends? Hopefully it's an exciting week.

Good move, expected, but good move none the less. He was clearly the more impressive player in Summer League and I think brings a more valuable skill set to the team than Patty. I still don't expect a whole lot out of Armon his first year in Portland, but if we can keep him around and groom him, he could turn out to be a very nice piece of the puzzle. Every team needs defenders and the more you can stockpile, the merrier.

I really liked what I saw in the summer league, especially defensively. I think this was a good decision!

xcellent move signing Johnson. He's already our best defensive and most athletic point guard. His offense, which isn't a  priority to the team,is definitely solid right now and will prove to be great.I really feel he's the closest thing to Gary Payton the league's ever seen.A 6'3'-6'-4', left-handed, very athletic, point guard,Known for his stalwart defense, but an  offensive star on the rise.Johnson is the classic example of a ballplayer that did what was asked of him in college.Leading his team, getting everybody involved on the offensive end, and playing shutdown defense were at the crux of those things.I mention this to highlight the lack of concern Blazer fans should have for his offensive skills. As well as to point out the type of leader and teammate he is.If we don't get Chris Paul,Johnson will prove to be sooner than later our best choice for starting point guard. He might already be the best man for the job.Even more so than Paul.If you consider his size(three to four inches taller than Paul),,more athletic, and at a much cheaper price tag.Not to mention, there would no chance or possibly  need for certain Blazers(e.g -Oden) to depart in any deal involving Chris Paul.

Great Job on signing Armon Johnson to the Blazers.  He will do a great job, basketball is his life.  He loves to play, and he is a coachable guy.  He is willing to learn more everyday, and he is a hard worker.  Thank God, for all of his blessings, and thanks to all of the fans, he won't let you down.  Good job Armon, and keep up the good work. He is # 1 in my book.

Kim, I know you are liking this as much as I am!  I love the physicallity this kids brings defensively.  The first rule of defense, is STOPPING THE BALL!  Seems to be a lost art of sorts.  Don't make the mistake of underestimating the effect AJ can have on a game everybody.  He has much learning still in front of him, and the obvious adjustment to the hand-checking rules enforced by the league now.  Love his attitude and work ethic...the latter of which will serve him well here.  Welcome Armon!!!  If ever there was any doubt as to our owner being committed to winning, moves like this wipe them away.  Armon's signing was definately with post-season success mind.

I'm with you.  I thought Mills was offered a contract a few days ago.  What ever came of that?  Is it possible (if not probable) he will be used in a package deal.  He has value, and there is one team out there that would have a "particular interest" in him.  If he is not under contract though...?

wow, fricken great, we can definitely win that championship now. . . .

seriously, the Blazers executive staff needs to stop nicky nacking. they need to understand that we have an aging core (aldridge 25, Roy 26). Those guys are in their prime right now, the executives need to understand that and do something about it to help them win a championship now.

25 and 26 are the new 30? Besides, sometimes the best moves are the ones you don't make.

Mills was clearly the better player out of these two in the summer league, despite not getting the same game time.  And he has a far more impressive overall record, and experience.  Either the management has rocks in its head, or there is a bigger, better plan in store for Patty at the Blazers.  I can only assume that because Mills is off playing for the Australian team at the world champs (there's that experience) that they can't announce what that plan is yet.

Thanks Ricky.   I''ll be watching @ 10.   Haven''t seen enough right hand from Shazamm.   Without the ability to take his defender either way off the bounce, let alone finish at the cup with either hand?   Second rounder at best.

Sug81 I love Iggy but this team has numerous gaping holes throughout the depth chart so signing Iggy is not the best way to spend our limited funds
