exactly....people talking about how he needs to be fired, are idiots....Portland wouldn't be anywhere near the team they are now if it hadn't been for Nate...I'm so glad we got him from Seattle after after that year they went to the playoffs(with basically, nobody by the way)....i didn't like MO cheeks....it just didn't seem like he had things under control...

    Nice find B!

I think with the veteran assistant coaches he's brought in, plus Buck Williams Nate can build on what he has established here in Portland. Nice to see Kobe and LeBron give it up for Nate. But as always: Haters are gonna hate. No stopping that.

Let's be real. What else are they gonna say with cameras pointing in their face?? Besides, that was TWO YEARS AGO!
I like Nate, I think he is a real good guy, and a decent coach. However he seemed to overly mess with the lineup at the beginning of last year and he also has been plainly out-coached in the playoffs, not to mention he does not seem to have everybody's attention or even on the same page all the time. He is always saying he wants to speed up, but we rarely ever do, we start many games without enough energy or passion way too often, even in the playoffs. Also it seems he let Roy pick Blake over Miller instead of knowing what's best for the team and telling Roy "too bad, you're starting with Dre", among many other things.
Like I said though, all in all he is a decent coach and was great to bring us out of the jail Blazer era, but as far as taking us to the ultimate level, I just don't see it.
I am, however ,interested in seeing how the new staff works out, but Nate made it very clear everything is to go through him, so I'm not expecting much.

Nate is a beast.  You don't get to 50 wins with an injury riddled lineup unless you have a good coach to make sure things are still moving in the right direction.  Nate is a master.

Whether you like it or not, Nate is not going anywhere no time soon. Paul Allen knows what kind of coach he has and that's why he was paid the way he was paid. I challenge all the haters to name any coach in the NBA who can win with losing both his centers in a span of 3 weeks, lose his best defensive player for the first 45 games, to lose his all star for about 15 games, to have a player that runs the point who is a horrible fit for this team and not to mention Rudy Fernandez and his constant bitching and complaining and still WIN 50 GAMES IN THE WEST WHERE THE BIG BOYS PLAY. WHERE UNLESS YOU WIN 50 GAMES YOU ARE COUNTING PING PONG BALLS WITH TIMBERWOLVES EVERY YEAR...........NAME 1.....YOU CAN'T

lol exactly, not to mention Nate never once made it a public upheaval in the media that Andre Miller (while I have grown to love him as a player) is a bad fit for this team and he probably resented Pritchard in private for that desperation move, just as he has known Rudy and Sergio were bad for this team, he likes players who play hard on defense and make smart decisions. Pritchard cared too much what we fans thought, and Cho is going to care more about what Nate and Paul think.

TomL. Like I said, I'll trust the opinions of Kobe and LeBron. Remember in that summer we didn't even make playoffs yet, we were at 41-41. So we just got better from then. Hmmm.

Like I said, a Portland journalist came up to them and asked them to say something about Nate, what the hell else are they gonna say?!?! Kobe also said Shannon Brown would win the dunk contest when asked, what the hell else was he supposed to say? I think Shannon had the lamest dunks in the history of the dunk contest! Lebron thought it was a great idea to put the Decision on ESPN for an hour long special. So go ahead and trust Kobe and Lebron's opinions, I never will. Also I never said we didn't get better with Nate, so I don't know why you are hmmming me on that.

Nate is a "good" coach guys, I'm not arguing that, but everyone seems to get so attached here that they can't see any of the blatantly obvious problems! I'm not saying we should fire him, because I don't see any other option that is better right now, I am saying for us to win it all Nate needs to make some serious adjustments and changes or we need someone else or to be extremely lucky! If you don't think he was out coached in each of the last 2 years in the playoffs then I don't know what else to say, we should agree to disagree. But for me, I want to see improvements in the playoffs, not just in the regular season.

first off....nate wasn't "out coached" by anybody....we didn't have the personnel to compete with the suns...everyone on their bench was contributing to the final score, while there were 2 to 3 blazers who weren't in just about every playoff game....the way your talking, it sounds like you didn't watch last season at all. and what do you mean he let ROy pick Blake over miller?.....do you not know that Steve Blake was traded last year?

Blazer fans and people league-wide would disagree with you is what I was implying. Nate sets the tone, not only was his game plan forced to constantly change as injuries happened to his players, but injury to himself caused him to change his coaching style and rely more on his assistants, as well as Lucas having to remove himself from the picture due to cancer, I would say he coached well all things considered. Is he a popovich? Not yet, but he's pretty close,  closer than other coaches, and still a young coach.

Oh I will trust the opinons of Kobe and LeBron. When asked about the dunk contest Kobe had a smile on his face when he said Shannon Brown would win. That is a huge sign that he really didn't believe it but wanted to. I also don't think he was ever out coached in the playoffs. The players were just outplayed. Against the rockets, we could not stop their offense...mainly the perimeter players getting into the lane. With the Phoenix series, we just did not have the bench depth to match theirs.

Nate is not the problem. He is a GREAT coach,  there is nothing wrong with dicipline and holding people accountable. It's a mans game, not a daycare.
I give Nate HUGE props for not telling the media exactly how he really feels about the continuous changing of his pg every  season he has been here. (my opinion only here)
With the small pg fetish belonging to who ever, it has made his job (and Roys) more difficult. Then add in the injuries too ? Nate should have been COY last season for the lineups and constant changes he had to deal with.
I like that Cho flys to meet with Nate before making a decison on a contract. What a concept !!

Only team i hate more than lakers is the cowboys, yet even I agreed with kobe when he said shannon brown was going to win the dunk contest, because Shannon Brown had some of the sickest in-game dunks of the season, and also had a couple that were nasty during the playoffs.

I never said there was anything wrong with discipline and holding people accountable. Also I think Coach Don Nelson had more injuries than we did, and actually one game we played he had to reinstate Devon George who fouled out because they had so many injured players. So I guess he should have been COY too?

As I remember, we were struggling very much at the beginning of the season with all the lineup changes Nate was doing. I think that it's ok to see what you got, but he didn't do it enough in pre-season and then he did it for way too long into the regular season and it cost us some games. We could have won more than 50 in my  opinion. Then when the injuries started happening he COULDN'T mess with the lineups any more, players that were healthy started feeling more confident due to the assurance that Nate wasn't going to pull them and the chemistry they were building by being on the floor more consistently.

What do I mean??? AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON WHEN BLAKE STARTED OVER MILLER! That's what I mean. Did you forget to watch that part of the season? Andre should have been starting from preseason. Then we heard Brandon say he prefers playing alongside Blake. Nate should have squashed that right away.
An dNate was definitely out coached by both Adelman and Gentry. If you really think he wasn't out coached then you must have been sleeping. Once again, I'm not saying Nate is a bad coach I just don't think he will take us all the way. I hope he learns from his mistakes, but I doubt it. At least not fast enough for each playoff series. At the beginning of the year he pulled players way to fast, then in the playoffs he went with Rudy for way too long because I think he saw what happened in the regular season, but he went way too long with playing Rudy, especially since he was pulling him all year long.

    Nate is a GREAT coach.

Nate SHOULD have won Coach of the Year last season.  While Don Nelson may have dealt with more injuries, his team did not qualify for the playoffs or win 50 games.

However...do I think Nate is the guy to bring a title back to the City of Roses.  Not necessarily.  Why does the term "fit" only have to apply to PLAYERS?  As a coach myself, I know that you have to be willing (and able) to adjust your style, tweek it if you will, to that of your personnel from time to time.  To this point, Nate has been very stubborn...unyielding even, traits that may have cost KP his job.  I prefer to see Nate make the necessary adjustments to stay with the Blazers and find himself atop the back seat of a convertible cruising thru the streets of downtown Portland, fighting off the falling confeity, acknowledging his many supporters with that smile and a wave.  Will he be willing to give "a little" to get "alot" though?  We will see.

As far as the credit for last season being given to coach McMillan...let's not forget about the PLAYERS.  The character and intestinal fortitude showcased by our team last season was unprecedented in my opinion.  The PLAYERS are the ones that went out on that court night after night, not knowing who was going to be standing with them when the ball got tossed in the air.  THEY are the ones that have clearly OVERACHIEVED the last TWO seasons.  I don't know that Nate was outcoached.  I personally believe that the team both years, just simply expended too much to get into the postseason and didn't have enough left.  With what they overcame last year especially, who among us can be upset about that.

Noone will likely remember me saying this when it will be applicable, but Kim...my gut tells me that one, if not both Nate and Pres Obama will not have the position they currently enjoy the next time our team enjoys a lockerroom champaign shower...:)
