Who do you want to see Portland play on Opening Night?
    Jazz (15)
     14%
    Lakers (24)
     23%
    Nuggets (4)
     4%
    Suns (33)
     32%
    Thunder (21)
     20%
    Other (Please Specify) (7)
     7%

With the schedule seemingly on track to be released sometime within the next 7-10 days, it's time to think who we want to open up the 2011 campaign against at home. Last year was the first year I can remember we actually opened the season at home. Here are my most likely candidates:

    Utah Jazz:
Reason: They are already a divisional rival but the rivalry escalated after Portland once again targeted a Jazz restricted free agent, only this time landing him (Matthews).

    Los Angeles Lakers:
Reason: The Lakers simply can not win in Portland. Portland considers LA their biggest rivals and our fans would definitely be up for the challenge. A possible Western Conference Finals preview?

    Denver Nuggets:
Reason: Like Utah, Denver is one of our biggest rivals and we have battled for the NW title the past couple of years. Carmelo vs. Roy has been a hotly contested battle before (Christmas game), why can't it be again?

    Phoenix Suns:
Reason: Always good to rekindle former playoff battles and Hedo being on board adds a little fuel to the fire.

    Oklahoma City Thunder:
Reason: Oden will be back so there's the Oden/Durant angle. Also, both teams are considered to be the most up and coming teams in the West, ready to challenge the Lakers for Western supremecy

So who is it? Who do you want to see us open the Rose Garden up with?
In order of most wanted, I'd rank them:
1- Jazz: The Wesley Matthews signing makes this too good to miss
2- Thunder: I really want to see us a full strength dominate the Thunder
3- Nuggets: I see them breaking down, not the main attraction on the schedule as they once were
4- Suns: Losing Amare takes a lot of of a Opening night
5- Lakers: We struggle early. I want to play LA when we are clicking on all cylinders.

The nuggets, why? simple, the nuggets won it last year, the Jazz have a lot to prove with the loss of Korver and Boozer. I think a win against them would be a great way to start the season. and we all know we can beat the lakers at our place weather it is the first or last game of the season.

we opened with houston last year after they beat us in the playoffs the year before and we handled them. Lets do the same thing to Phoenix. We need to prove right off the bat that we can beat the team that ended our season, even if amare is gone. Plus i would love to boo Hedo all game again.

I doubt we play the Heat on opening night. Most of the time, the NBA has western teams play each other and eastern teams do the same to start off opening night. Even if it were an option, I'd pass on the Heat. Just like the Lakers, I want to be on a roll heading into that game.

I voted for the Lakers because it's always intense, but I agree with Shawn503... a win against the Heat on opening night would be sick!

The Jazz seemed to have our number last season.  It would be great to start the season out by getting a win against them.

Huh?!? You want Martel to get revenge on us?!?! Why didn't he just play better when he did play for us? Are you going to wear a Webster T-Wolves jersey?

Definetly the Jazz.....a very doable, fun to watch game and easy to compare to last season's games against them.  The other teams mentioned would be fine, but I think the Jazz are a great middle ground game to start off the season!

I voted Suns, not that the crowd isn't going to be loud and hyped opening night (when is the Garden not loud, right?) starting the season with a win vs. the team that took you out last season would be nice.

Any conference rival would make a good season opener too (like game #2 vs. DEN last season...felt like the Western Conference Finals...Game 7) I personally like LA a bit later in the season almost like a recurring mini-boss in a RPG that gets more powerful as the game goes on.

I said Jazz, just because we got Wesley Matthews, and I wanna see him play against his own team.
I actually would kinda prefer the Thunders, but I want to see Oden in complete full strength.  Then it'd be a legendary matchup.

Phoenix, no question.  He who laughs last laughs best.  The Suns are still laughing after humiliating the only team in the playoffs softer than they were.  Enter Matthews and a healthy front-line.  Let's GO!

I can see where everyone is coming from in regards to the Suns, but without Amundson, Amare, and Barbosa, its just not the same team that got us in the playoffs. What made the Rockets game last year meaningful was the fact their team was practically the same one who busted us up the previous spring.

We'll find out tomorrow who we play on opening night and if we get any Christmas or MLK games.

NEW YORK (AP)—The NBA will release its opening week and Christmas Day schedules during an hourlong TV special Tuesday.

NBATV officials said Friday their network will host a program at 7 p.m. EDT, at which time it will unveil the slate of games for “Tip-off ’10,” plus the Christmas and Martin Luther King Jr. holidays.

The full NBA schedule will be released on Aug. 10. This is the first time the league has released portions of it early.

The reason is likely because of the anticipation for the debut and marquee games involving Miami’s new trio of LeBron James(notes), Dwyane Wade(notes) and Chris Bosh(notes). CONTINUE READING>>>

    Quick Tweets-

jwquick New York Daily News reporting that Knicks home opener will be against Portland on Oct. 30

I wouldn't mind destroying the Knicks on opening night and getting some road games out of the way but I still find it highlly unlikely we start on the East coast..oh well, only time will tell. This may not be opening night for Portland though, we could open at home then head out East so I'm assuming this is our road opener...

I would like to play the true competition in our division which is the Thunder, and proceed to just dominate the rest of the season. If not, it would be fun to be the first team to put an L in the three stooges W-L column.

For all those wanting the Heat or Celtics, you're out of luck..

Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh will make their Heat debut together in Boston against the Celtics on Oct. 26, according to league sources.

The NBA will release a portion of the 2010-11 schedule during an hour-long special on NBA TV Tuesday night.

The Heat are expected to play the maximum of 34 nationally televised games, with interest in the team spiking after Miami re-signed Wade and added James and Bosh in free agency.
