As of 7-27-10, where do we stand in the West?

Additions- Wesley Matthews, Luke Babbitt, Armon Johnson, Elliot Williams
Subtractions- Martell Webster, Ryan Gomes, Travis Diener, Juwan Howard

Potentially, we have the ability to be 1st or 2nd, but that will take a few good moves from Cho. Right now, I'd say 4th or 5th. I like our team, but we have too many good players and we need to swap 4-5 of those players into 1-2 exceptional guys. So if we went into the season with this roster as is, I'd rank 'em-

    1- Lakers
They are the champs, nuff said. Surgeries to Kobe and Bynum could put 3 peat on hold. If anyone wants to take them out, they must get the #1 seed and obtain HCA.

    2- Mavericks
They are a team built to have a great regular season. Same story different year for Dallas. Great regular season, but a lack of a true #2 for Dirk makes them vulnerable in the playoffs.

    3- Rockets
The front court depth they posses in envious. If Yao returns 100%,  they are a sleeper title contender. Teams will be able to score on them as Battier is only reliable defender.

    4- Trail Blazers
One superstar in Roy, but not another star in place to take team to next level. Health is a major concern as every rotational player outside of LA and Dre have current, prior, or continual injury concerns. without a trade in place, the season hinges on Oden.

    5- Thunder
Durant is primed for an MVP season. They lucked out with few injuries last year, could be a problem this time around. A lack of interior offense and defense could derail any 2nd round hopes.

    6- Spurs
Until I actually see them miss the playoffs, they are making it. No team's season hinges on the health of all 3 core players more than the Spurs. Addition of Splitter should take small load off of Duncan.

    7- Jazz
Three incoming players (Hayward, Jefferson, Bell) are inferior to three exiting players (Matthews,Boozer,Korver), but Sloan is a great coach and has a floor general in place to execute their system. Okur may not return until January.

    8- Nuggets
Martin & Birdman both recovering from knee surgeries, Karl's health in limbo, and Anthony's impending status with the team will all be too much for an already dysfunctional team to overcome. Al Harrington was not a great fit. The team has 2001 Blazers combustibility written all over it.

I'm a little less worried about Dallas than you... and maybe a little more worried about Denver.

The Blazers are better than Dallas and Houston, if everyone comes ready to put on big boy pants..
I would put them at 2.  I'm more worried about Denver than Houston.

I think we're a top 3 team in the West. The order is still a little sketchy. The west is still going to be pretty tough with Utah reloading with some new talent. As long as we make the playoffs with home court I'm hoping we make it to the Finals.

    I'll play-

    1- Lakers
Like Clyde said, they stay on top until someone takes it from them
    2- Rockets
Again, this is only if Yao is healthy, but Brooks is a terror to defend and Martin and Battier will not allow any double teaming of Yao to occur. Hell, even Scola will make you pay if you send the double.
    3- Trail Blazers
Only because I'm a homer. Honestly, the offense needs more diversity, because other teams figure it out too quickly in a 7 game series.
    4- Mavericks
Chandler is an upgrade over Dampier. An aging team though. We'll see how they hold up over the course of 82 games.
    5- Thunder
I really wanted to put them lower, because odds are someone will get hurt and miss a chunk of the season, because teams just don't have back to back healthy seasons like they just had.
    6- Nuggets
Chauncey seems to be really losing a step but with Melo and the Mile high home court advantage, they stay in the thick of things. If Martin, Birdman, or Nene aren't 100% by November, they could really start to falter.
    7- Spurs
On paper they are legit, but they need to do something with Parker and get a good piece in return, but even healthy, Duncan is a shell of his former self and I have my doubts Manu will play 82 games.
    8- Jazz
The biggest loser this offseason. They have to hope Bell has something left in the tank and that Jefferson learns to play some form of defense. I just don't see how Millsap and Jefferson can realistically stop anyone on defense, its Love/Jefferson all over again.

    Watch out for:
    Memphis
They reminded me of the 08 Blazers last year with a great middle of the season run to get into contention but just not enough experience to make a legit push for the 8th seed. They still need a veteran but if Gasol continues to grow, they could be a sleeper out West.

    Don't buy the hype:
    LA Clippers
Every year they have a great team on paper and either it doesn't mesh or they get injured. Outside of Kaman and Jordan, no one on their roster plays a lick of defense.

    Team on the rise:
    Sacramento
Look for Tyreke Evans to make a push for the All-Star game as he could take the next step like roy did in his 2nd year. I really love their frontline with Cousins, Dalembert, Landry, and Thompson. Teams are not going to want to play them. They could push for 35-40 wins.

Don't even bother playing this year:
    Minnesota
When your best player is Kevin Love, your team has problems. They wasted all of their cap space on Darko and Pekovich, Flynn will miss the start of the season, and could falter before the season even starts with Delonte and Beasley on the same team. This team could challenge for the worst record of all-time.

No way are the Rockets and Mavs better than us. You guys are over analyzing or something. If ANYTHING I would maybe put them in a 3 way tie, but I still think with a healthy Oden and the rest of the team being healthy, we are 2nd... if Nate doesn't screw up the chemistry and flow again.

311 games! Not days but games. Period, this cannot happen again. The amount of days missed far exceeds this number and ranges into the thousands potentially when combined amongst all athletes. but I'm still rooting
