I have been reading all these comments about trade this player or that player for Chris Paul. What I don't think you realize is that we have a great team the way it is. We haven't even seen these guys play together and you want to throw Batum or miller or Babbit under the bus before we see their ability to play together as a team. I've been a fan along time. I know a good core of player when I see them. I also know they can win with what they have without anymore movement. Why get a player who will come in for 2 years and walk when we have a team that can grow together and become champions without trades.

I don't know much about you Hub, but you are a great fan. I mean that because you, in true Rip City fashion, love the players on the team because you've essentially watched them grow as community members and as adults. The reality is though, unless players like Aldrige and Oden start EXCEEDING expectations, this team is not winning a Championship anytime soon. Just because someone's been a fan for a long time, doesn't make a person a basketball guru. I'm not saying I'm one either, but I've been a fan at least since 1989 ( I was 5 years old so that's my earliest recollection of staying up late to watch the playoffs). I was a fan through the JailBlazer era, I stopped everything to watch Game 7 in 2001. I was listening on the radio when Sean Elliot hit that insane 3 pointer to knock the Blazers out of the Playoffs. I've felt all the ups and downs of this team over the last 21 years. I look at this team, and I see potential to be a perennial Playoff and Western Conference Contender, but what I don't see RIGHT NOW is a team that is a Championship contender. We need Oden to become a dominant force, we need Aldrige to live up to #3 draft pick potential, and we need depth at the PG position because Bayless is a small SG, not a PG. Batum has potential and improves every off season, but the miles are piling up on Roy right now and as that happens, the window to a Championship closes. Getting a player like a CP3, and you can read my earlier posts I was not too sure about this idea, would extend the miles that Roy has left, take pressure off the post players, and provide All-Star/Hall of Fame PG play that would electrify the Rose Garden. He has also proven to be an above average perimeter defender. With Paul, Matthews, and Roy defending the perimeter and Oden, Aldridge, Camby and Okafur holding down the paint, this would be the deepest, most talented young team in the league. Portland has a history of rejuvenating the careers of falling bigs (See Ratliff, Przybilla, Camby) and this could be a great opportunity for Okafur to live up to his #1 overall potential over Dwight Howard. Will he ever be better than Howard, no, but could he prove to be an excellent PF, absolutely. Paul Allen is facing the reality that he may not be the owner of this team forever and he will want to win now, not in 5 years from now. The benefit of being able to obtain Paul for what has been rumored to be the acceptable offer is something Paul Allen can't pass up on. There are too many factors in play to focus strictly on what is still seen as LA, Oden, and Batum's potential. Portland needs a guy like Paul to make Oden and LA better players. Look what he did for Tyson Chandler.
I am a fan of #20 in the rafters, but #1 in our hearts and prayers...The Enforcer

Not DPOY. All American. Player of the year in his conference twice. Past four years, McCollum, Muscala, McCollum, Muscala.

sign Iggy for 8-9M, Batum at the two, and Wesley off the bench! Draft Steven Adams (who loves contact, grew up playing rug-bee). Sounds NICE!

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
