What would you do if Roy opted/wanted out?

    After Lebron left "his own" bloodied and discarded on the side of the road on his way down to South Beach, as fans we have to take a step back and look at what the Decision meant to all of us. The dust has settled, the healing has started, the articles continue to flourish surrounding the new big 3. How does all this effect the team farthest removed (geographically) from Miami?

    Hopefully it forces us to look inward, and maybe enjoy our own superstar's (we brand him so, even if the rest of the league doesn't) stay in Portland a little more. Let's face it, as much of a stand up guy Roy seems to be, it's a trend for those iconic figures to fall from grace one way or another. I don't see Roy falling into adultress temptation, excessive drug use, steorid scandal, at least not anytime soon. However there is one very real possiblity, one we've experienced in the past and are seeing in other small market teams this off-season. What if we never do as well in the playoffs as we expect to do, and Roy wants to go off to greener pastures? When's the last time we had a "franchise" player end his days in Portland?

    My real question is, as fans, how would we treat Roy wif he ever wore colors besides the red black and white, would we remember the great times we've had, or the heart ache of seeing him go. Granted he most likely won't make it a primetime special event, but it is something that is always possible, after all "It's just a business."

    The average fan would completely turn his back on his/hers favorite player if they decided to jump ship. Cleveland should have known this was coming. Danny Ferry did everything in his power to put talent around James. The Cavs had the best record in the league two years and running and was not able to win the big game. If the Trailblazers fail to put a championship team around Roy then he should be able to go someplace else.

    With that said, Chris Paul is right there for the taking and Portland should go all out to get him. Paul is what this team has been lacking for the past one and done in the playoffs the past two seasons. The two biggest reasons why Portland needs a player like Paul is because Roy is not a vocal leader, someone who can get in his teammates ass when they don't hustle,don't play defense, or whatever. Paul could be the leader that Nate has been looking for. The last reason is because of Oden, Paul made Tyson Chandler look like an all-star when he was healthy.

    Brandon Roy is my favorite player in the league and of course my favorite team is the Trailblazers but I would still cheer for Roy on a diffrent team just as long as it's not the Lakers.....lol. Fans don't realize that the NBA is a business first, loyalty will get you only so far in the game. Look no further than Kevin Garnett, who for over a decade was loyal to the Timberwolves and their constant losing seasons after seasons. KG did what was best for him and he got a ring in Boston. If Roy could not get a ring in Portland, and if Portland fails to give him that dynamic PG that he needs, he should be able to force a trade!

    Well if he left i would probably log onto the internet to see what Portland's Owner had to say then maybe stop by the rose garden pickup a #7 jersey, take out my Zippo and torch it. Then perhaps i will tarnish his name as much as possible and try to make all sports fans feel bad and give sympathy for my now broken and limping team.   

    Not really. What i would do, because this is my definition of a "fan", is support and follow him, not change my favorite team, but follow up on how hes doing, keep him in mind to maybe catch a game of his you know, it is his right to play for wherever he wants, whether its for money,loyalty to a team, or just purely winning games, because thats what a fan of a player would do. 

    How can you even say you will cheer for Roy if he left, when in the first sentence of this topic there is criticism on LeBron for what he did? How is that any different? What if LeBron was someones favorrite player, who's to say if your player switches teams hes the anti christ but if mine does he's still a nice guy?
    KG headed to Boston in the same exact way LeBron went to Miami, they found 3 big stars and they decided to get them all, the only difference being for the heat they signed 3 Olympians. Most of the people on the now loaded Miami roster have all taken significant pay cuts in order to try and win a championship, that is so Loyal to winning, that next season they'll bleed loyalty.

    Great points lightskin. This is how I see leadership shaping out if CP3 were to come here. CP3 much like Kobe will be on everyones ass yelling, while Brandon like Derek Fisher is the leader type to rebuild the players confidence after it was just attacked. Perfect.

    On another note, you nailed it lightskin, while I would love for Roy to retire a blazer, I just can't see it happening when you look at players leaving in the past, however he is from the northwest and a true family man, so unless Seattle gets an expansion team that become contenders in the next decade, we may not have to set any jerseys on fire.
    And as far as your comments on Kevin Garnett, I don't think there is a more classy way to exit a small market team that he held upon his shoulders for so long, and that is why many people were happy to see Kevin win his first ring.

    You can't really blame that totally on Minnesota though. They were in the Western Conference Finals and got beat out by, oh yeah, the Lakers. They had some good teams, but the West has been stacked top to bottom for a long time. It is hard to get to the Championship game in the Western Conference. With that said, it depends on the circumstances. I with Drexler, nobody knew that he asked to be moved to Houston and everyone blamed trader Bob and Paul Allen. So he was still the hero of Portland. Now, with twitter and Woj and all, it would come out if a player requested something like that, so I could see Roy jerseys getting torched. We are a VERY emotionally attached fan base here in the city of Portland. Blazer fans from outside of the city (and if you used to be in Portland but moved then you are counted as in the city because you know) they don't really get what the fans here are like. We almost look at the team as an extension of the family. So to see someone that is the franchise turn their back on the City of Portland would be hard for most Blazer fans and regardless of business there would be some fall out.
