To Lakers, Knicks, Or Magic before the season starts. Now that doesn't mean thats the teams they have to trade him to. He just has requested it be 1 of these teams. In reality they can trade him away to any team they choose to. I'm more than sure they will trade him to get him off their cap... and most likely take some expiring contracts in exchange a long with some young  cheap talent.  I'd love him in portland but most likely he wouldn't resign so basically he'd be a 2 year rental?

Meaningful dialogue would have to take place before Cho and company would consider Paul in a Blazer uniform.  With the possibility of a lockout looming and Paul's contract, it would be conceivable that the Blazers could find themselves without BOTH Paul and Nic after next season.  If CP3 doesn't want Portland...Portland doesn't want CP3.  No player, not even a Paul, deserves to wear the scarlet red, black, and white if they are not able to embrace what it means to be a Blazer.  It sounds as if Paul may be done with the small markets and looking to finish his career in the bright lights and big city offered by the larger NBA frachises.  If he cannot see the possibilities becoming a Blazer now would offer him...SEE YA!

this is a quote from the espn story: "Sources told Broussard on Thursday that the Knicks and Magic are on Paul's list of preferred destinations, but the Lakers are not. Sources told Broussard that the Portland Trail Blazers and Dallas Mavericks are also in the running if Paul were to be traded."

If we did trade for him what do we give?

If CP3 adds two teams to his list every day, he'll be willing to go to any team but NOLA by mid-August.

But seriously, good to hear, though it is a rumor, that Paul would at least consider coming to Portland. Of the team's he's listed, one would think that Portland would be the best fit. The Knicks are still a ways away from being able to contented for a playoff spot, let alone a championship. Orlando doesn't need a point guard (though who wouldn't take CP3) and the Mavs are getting older by the second and no idea how that would work with Jason Kidd.

What would it take to get him here? Paul declaring his desire to leave drives his price down a little, but you're still going to have to give up some nice pieces to get him. I don't think Bayless/Miller/Przy gets it done. NOLA fans would riot if they traded a superstar for what amounts to Bayless and a salary dump (no offense to Dre or Joel).

I think either Greg or LaMarcus would have to be involved. That seems like the starting price to me. After that you could fill in with anyone but Roy or Batum, IMO.

To get CP3 here it's going to hurt a little. Aldridge would be part of that deal for sure. To me it seems like Aldridge is easier to replace than Nic, so I could live with that. I think Collison is definitely ready to take over in NO, so they may not feel like they need to get a PG back, but the expiring contracts must look really good to them? I doubt Bayless is on their wish list. They already have Collison and Thornton... do they need another young guard? maybe Miller fits the bill. He could bring in some experience to that position and help those guys out for a year... then they clear cap space and address another need. I don't know how happy Paul would be here, but I can see it happening.

I don't see the Hornets having ANY interest in Aldridge whatsoever. He plays the exact position as David West, and neither can really play center. Also, the point of trading Paul would be to cut salary and with LA's near MAX deal about to kick in, I don't see how it puts them in any better financial position than they are now.

This is just opinion, but I don't see us dealing Greg unless Lopez of Dwight are coming back. Unfortunately for a lot of fans, Batum is going to be the piece desired by the Hornets, esp considering who their new head coach is. I think the package would start with Batum and the expiring contracts of Joel and Andre, then you see where it stands and let NO pick and choose who they want outside of the Big 3 and Matthews. If they do in fact land Paul without giving up the Big 3, you have to consider that the coup of the century and would put us into elite championship contender territory.

I have a feeling if we do trade Nic, that it's going to come back and bite us BIG time... Plus, isnt CP3's contract only for 2 more years?  Would it be worth it to trade Nic away for CP3 for 2 years.. there is no guarantee he will stay here after that.  It just worries me and I really really dont want to see Nic go.  DONT TRADE NIC!  We need him.

This makes me disappointed in CP3 as a person.  The attitude that these " stars " have now makes me throw up in my mouth.  Million dollar babies are taking over a game I used to love with egos and twitter :(
I'm starting to believe this generation of players have lost the love of the game and replaced it with selfishness.

I want no part of CP3 if it means we loose Nic or LA.  We have not even seen Williams yet.

i agree with jennyguitar, you can't let Nic go for a 2 year lease on CP3. Good point on the Aldridge fitting into the NO lineup too DHawes. They do play a small line up with three guards and Stoyakovich and West sliding to the 4 and 5 about 10% of the time (according to Still, it's a stretch to think they would want either West or Aldridge on the bench that much for that kind of money. Guess they'd be looking at Nic or Oden. I know you have to give something up to get a player like Paul in a trade, but I couldn't get behind either one of Nic or Oden.

Portland Trailblazers should make fast but careful decision to get Chris Paul here before LA Lakers find their way to get him. Otherwise, the NBA championships for the next 5 years is going to be between LA Lakers and the Miami Heat. Opportunity to get some high caliber player like Paul is very rare to come around. Blazers have the history of failures starting from passing on Michael Jordan.

I think it's a great potential. As far as Chris Paul's attitude, he probably has information that suggests they are going to rebuild. Chris Paul is tired of being on a losing team. Nobody is down on Chris Bosh for going to Miami because Toronto is terrible. People are down on LBJ because he was still on a conference finals team and he broke up with them on an hour long special on ESPN. If Portland went on a four year streak out of the Playoffs now that Roy has had a taste of it, I would expect him to say "either we start getting serious or trade me." Chris Paul said that, and apparently they aren't getting serious so he's asking for a trade. It makes sense to me. As far as his contract expiring goes, I think once he gets here he'd love Portland just like every other player that avoided Portland until the end of their career and then ends up retiring here and living here. Giving up Nic would hurt, but having Matthews would make it hurt less. There are so many levels to this it is difficult to put into a single post.

I don't understand why people are against giving up Batum as part of a trade for Paul. Batum is a good role player, but CP3 is the BEST point guard in the game and still has not peaked. If there is any way we could get Paul and keep the big three here, we would absolutely be the best team in the league.

A lot of the reporters discussing this are saying they will want to unload Okafur's contract too. That suggests that they would probably want some bigs in return. Maybe sending them Miller, Rudy, Cunningham, Bayless and Joel would fit the bill.

Well I would trad Rudy, Andy Miller and Jared Bales, this is know knock on any of these players at all but I think this would be a good deal. Jared Bales has his hole career a head of him and Rudy is a good 3 point shouter, last Andre Miller is a good passer and brings veteran expense to your teem.

only way i'd trade for cp3 is if he agrees to a new contract that'll keep him here for at least 5 years... he'd get a pay day and we'd get to keep him here for the long term... its a win win. but if he has no real desire to be here i might have to hold my marbles and try to steal Deron Williams( who can opt out 2011)

95.5 The Game and The Oregonian's John Canzano said he spoke with Larry Miller before his show today and apparently Larry Miller is good friends with Chris Paul and his family through his time working with Nike. Larry Miller said that CP3 and his people have a decision to make. Canzano went on to say that it appears CP3 is driving the bus on this one and could end up choosing what happens and where he goes.

I am not questioning Paul's attitude.  He has publicly stated all along he wants to be a hornet as long as they are committed to building a contender.  N.O. ownerships has proven again and again the last few years that they aren't committed to the same goals.  Can you blame Paul for not wanting to stay someplace where the organization does not live up to their word?

Chandler was a huge part of their success and enabled Paul to really be successful and they ditched him, how can Chris not question the Hornets commitment?

From what I have heard, Allen isn't afraid to spend money if it means really buidling a contender and he loves great PGs too.  A backcourt of Roy, and Paul with Alridge, Oden/Camby and ideally Batum but certainly Mathews/Cunningham certainly puts us in their with the Lakers as favorites for the West.

IMO, Mr Allen likes fast pgs. They dont have to be great. If  Blazer ex "pgs of the future " were  ex wives, Mr Allen would be be broke by now.

CP3 rumors float every off season.

Pick one (that doesnt involve trading Nic ) and stick with it. No team wins championships by changing their pg every off season.

Normally Kim I agree with you, Batum has proven that he has earned our loyalty, but at the same time, it is a business and I would love to see a Championship. Batum is a good piece to a championship caliber team, but you need a star quality PG to get you there and Portland doesn't have that. The Lakers had Derrick Fisher, the Celtics had Rondo. The Spurs had Tony Parker, and the Pistons had Chauncey Billups. You have to go back to the Bulls in order to find a team that didn't, but they had the greatest player ever which Portland doesn't have. So if Paul were to put us over the top, I think you have to considder giving up Batum and sliding Matthews into that starting SF role. Batum is my favorite right now, especially after Rudy became a Prima Donna, but winning a's hard to argue against that. I don't think Portland can do it with Miller as the starter and I know they can't do it with Bayless. Bayless will never be THAT kind've PG. He will be a great scorer, but he will never be THAT PG.

^couldn't had said it any better^

i love bayless. but i don't think he will ever amount to being more than a backup, he is really a sg stuck in a pg body. he doesn't pass to great and makes poor decision which either result in him turning over the ball or him getting blocked. though he hasn't reached his ceiling. how high do u think he ceiling really is? andre miller was just a stop gap, a plug in pg "for now" till we find that 1 pg that'll change our goals from a wish/dream to an obtainable goal...  and if w have the opprutunity to make a historic move that u HAVE TO TAKE THAT CHANCE! no matter who u have to involve in that trade.

Personally i think it'll be Andre Miller, Jared Bayless , Rudy Fernandez, Joel Prizbylla, Greg Oden(hope not), Nicholas Batum(most likely), & some draft picks/ + cash for Chris Paul & Okafor(who they want in the trade) possibly posey? but i doubt they include him.

We must all remember that in order to get better you need to sacrifice. this could be 1 of the biggest trades to go down in history... and would automatically have the world talking about the portland trailblazers! which will thriven our market.

Btw i live in rhode island now.but was born & raised in Newark, New jersey but have always been a blazers fan all my life :) i've been waiting a longggg time to see this franchise win a championship. so you can imagine my desire for a "smart move" to be made.

why is everyone stressin that if CP3 comes to portland that he'd leave after his contract expires?  The reason he wants out of NO is because they're not contending for a title.  If we are in the finals he will stay.  The only downside is losing Batum but for Paul i'd do it in a heart beat.  Who knows maybe we can throw Babbit in the deal, and we would get Okafor.  He would be a perfect backup 4 or 5 who can bang the boards and block shots.

i think they have to do make a trade here is the deal you give up marcus, andre, bayless, rudy, joel and some small contract like a patty mills and the max money which is 3 million for chris paul, emakea oakfor, sorry if i spell some of these names wrong and some other contracts that new orleans needs to get rid of like james posey, thompson and stuff is new orleans is hurting fincial so with this trade they get rid pauls big contract with oakafors long contract and guys like james posey plus they plus some talented young guys so they save there money and we get chris paul and oakfor are the main guys and paul can take this load its nothing for him then heres your team your starting 5 is paul roy batum lamarcus oden/oakafor then your second team is  matthews, cunningham, pendgraph, babbit, and that johnson and miami mite have the best 3 guys but lets say portland pulls this off and the keep batum who i think really will be a star one day and i havent given up on oden i mean the guy when he played was dominant i mean he was at the top for blocks in the league for about a month after the guy had gotten hurt he was in the top 20 or whatever is in the league so if he is back and healthy there wouldnt be a better starting 5 in the league. oh and i did this trade on the trade machine and guess what it worked so i dont see why portland doesnt make a offer is look portland has to get someone now with miami loaded and with chris paul and roy there isnt a better backcourt in the league this is what portland has been waiting for a chance to get a good guy and he is interested in playing for portland thats why i say you go with my trade you give them guys like bayless and rudy and marcus i love them i really do but new orleans is suffering really bad with money so portland should give up some big contracts and take them new orleans with chris paul and everyone would be happy new orleans saves somewhere around 50 million dollars within the next 3 years with this deal and we get paul with oakafor who is just as good as camby or joel with a better offensive game so i think you keep batum if possibly can dont give him up but if you have to then you want to keep a guy like a bayless or rudy then but you have to keep batum if at all possible this is it go get this done i made it work on the trade machine so idk if portland would do it but there is no way new orleans would decline it!
