This stuff is too good not to post! Bye- bye legacy LeBron

    From ESPN-
"We didn't think about it cause that's not what we were about," Johnson said at Baruch College in New York, according to Bloomberg News. "From college, I was trying to figure out how to beat Larry Bird."

Last weekend, Jordan said at a celebrity golf event that he never would have played with Johnson or Larry Bird, his two main rivals during his playing days.

"There's no way, with hindsight, I would've ever called up Larry [Bird], called up Magic [Johnson] and said, 'Hey, look, let's get together and play on one team,'" Jordan said after playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Nevada. The interview aired on the NBC telecast of the event. "But that's ... things are different. I can't say that's a bad thing. It's an opportunity these kids have today. In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys."

Johnson added on Tuesday: "It was never a question in our mind because nobody has ever done that."

By the way, here's what Bid had to say from Pacers.com-

"I remember back in my days, I'd rather play against Earvin Johnson than play with him," he said. "I know he's a great player and you always want to play with the best but I just loved to compete against him. He's a guy I always compared myself to. I'd rather stay in Boston and let him stay in L.A. and just compete every year in the Finals. That's what made me a better player. It would've been too easy if we played together."

I love how all the legends are subtly knocking him for joining the Heat. It would have been one thing to go with Bosh because Bosh isn't a superstar but to go with Wade AND Bosh, too much. He and Wade are arguably regarded as 2 of the top 3 players in the league, so that would have been like Magic joining Bird or vice versa. Its great that LeBron wants to win but he has no competitiveness left in him.

Lets say there are 4 guys on the blacktop getting ready to play 2 on 2 and two of the players are great while the other two are average. Do you want to see one great person take an average player and battle it out or see the two Goliaths team up and wipe the floor with the mediocre guys? LeBron going to Miami is BAD for the NBA.

I agree with the sentiments that Magic and Bird express.

LBJ can't be included with them and MJ. He is now expected to win now with Wade and Bosh, but even then, he won't be comparable. He'll just be known the one star player who needed another star player to win a championship and not someone who was driven by the competition and the desire to beat the best of his day to get to the top, and not just get to the top.

If these guys were at the end of their careers, I could understand it better, but they are wasting their prime and an opportunity to compete night in and night out. It's the nature of the sport and they are taking it away. Now they will only have to compete against a couple teams in the East and a few teams in the West. I am glad these guys are putting them in their place.

Lebron proved to world that he is not in the same class as the above players. He had to join other superstars to try to win a championship. Admitting even he doesnt think he can do it by himself.

I would expect that, during the  l o n g   82 game schedule next season, the Miami Heat will have to play 82 PLAYOFF type games against opponents eager to measure themselves against what is widely perceived as THE BEST now.  I look forward to the increased intensity and possibility (if not probability) that there will be let downs and even finger pointing-losses to teams that will be considerable underdogs.  Perhaps though, I will be MOST interested to see how league officials use their whistles with the Miami Heat.  I foresee a very slippery slope for Mr. Stern.  This is unprecedented and will hopefully not be repeated by players and teams in the future.  I have to agree with ClydeFrog.  The experiment known as the Miami Heat IS NOT good for the NBA, and really makes the upcoming CBA alot more interesting.

We refer to children that engage in this type of behavior as bullies with faltering self esteem.  We categorize young people who give in to this temptation gang members...with failing self esteem, seemingly unable to stand on their own.  So, Lebron, what do we call YOU?

What i love about Lebron James is his ability to have a pull on every NBA fans life, Its like every fan is affected by his decision and really, it only affects him. This is a guy who has been a topic on sports center everyday since he was a freshman in high school, when is everyone going to leave him alone? You guys in here talk about how " Now LeBron wont be amongst the same class as Magic, Bird, Jordan", and you know what your all right, he will be in an even higher class. Because really folks, those old legends, were not born in a generation were what is said and heard on the court, is over ruled by what is said and heard on the T.V. They were born in a generation where you were defined as a player by your actions on the court, hard work ethic and your love for the game, where as LeBron doesn't have that pleasure. No, because he wants to win a championship more than anything in the world, and see's an opportunity in doing so but requires that he change his team, and for that he becomes the most hated player among Professional Sports. Now you all can say things like " Oh, he cant do it on his own, so he has to switch to a team with 2 of the other top 10 players in the league", okay so for Magic playing with Karreem and James Worthy that was completely different right? Or Jordan playing with Pippen or Roddman (Who led the league in rebounding for 8 years mind you) and as for  Bird and the Celtics, well Bird gets to play with Robert Parrish, Kevin McHale, Danny Ainge, and yet BIRD gets all the credit, come on guys. I am always hearing almost every other day, about how "it isnt about just 1 player on a basketball team" and now that LeBron has done something that, honestly everyone who enjoys watching basketball should cherish to have an opportunity to watch such great athletes play together, he becomes the enemy. This hype, whether it be positive or negative, is all because of people like us, fans who want more out of their heroes than for them to be successful, two months ago we all loved LeBron, couldn't hear enough about him, and after the chaotic summer he has endured thanks to rumors and fans impatience, he decied to shut everyone up and stop the madness by having a show. People freaked out about this, but did anyone really expect anything less, when we caused this? He has a show so he can come out and say where he wants to play and why he wants to play there, because he knew that would be one of the only times, US FANS could actually hear words from his own mouth, and to show that he isnt doing it for fame and forturne, donates all the proceeds to charity, i mean what else do you want from this guy, is he supposed to hang with Obama and start straightening out the Senate next? The 3 of these guys ( Wade, Bosh, James) all came into the league together, became friends due to workouts and the whole Draft process and then they decided to all sign 7 year contracts so that if, after the 7 years on the team of their choice, things aren't working out the way they'd hoped, perhaps there might be a chance for two of them, or heck all three of them could play together. This was said by Dwayne Wade, not word for word, but along the lines of it, on sports center the day Bosh decided to check out south beach. Not to mention you didnt see our neighbors to the north in Toronto out in the streets burning their heroes #4 jersey. Why? Here's why, because no one has seen anything....anyone, like LeBron James in a long time, he is honestly the best player in the NBA when it comes to every aspect of the game**(Alot of you will say Kobe, but Kobe Bean's defense has bean 'n gone if you ask me, he left it on the Hornets)**,and is often compared to Jordan, and how the WORLD fell in love with Micheal. Well the world fell in love with LeBron James, long before he fell for them, and due to the fact that he has been in the eye of the media storm since the 10th grade, we feel that he is ours, like we raised him. No, we just love him, we love when he pulls some crazy slam dunk out of his hat, or when the 6 foot 9, sometimes power foreward, hits a buzzer beating 3 to win the game, we love the chalk clap, and the promises of winning championships, but what we do not love, is when LeBron makes decisions for himself. When he notices the media-hype level is way too high and slowly getting out of control and takes matters into his own hands, or when LeBron realizes that he has given all that he can give for his team the past 7 years and wants to play somewhere else. He has given us some of the most explosive years in the NBA that we have seen in a while, he has sat there while the puppet masters make millions off of him by the second, and look past what he is really all about. I think that the fans of the NBA have slowly but surely crossed the line this time, and it is honestly disgusting when you look at the whole picture, team owners making comments such as "Little kids this is not the person you want to grow up to be",we truly have bitten the hand the feed, in this case the hand that entertains, and LeBron I apologize on behalf of everyone, you gave us the world, and were now giving you the finger, and all you ever wanted was to win.

I love how those 3 came out and hated on LeBron the way the rest of us have. It's awesome. But you know what, it's okay with me. Like what Charles Barkley said on a Miami radio show, LeBron just took himself out of being called one of the greatest players ever to play the game. He can win as much as he wants but he will never be regarded as one of the greats.

I don't know if it's "right or wrong." I just know that I use to really like LeBron. What made him "better" than Kobe was his likeability. He was someone that was easy to pull for. Now, he is easy to hate, much like Kobe. Ultimately, he has the right to do what ever he wants. But as a basketball fan, I have lost admiration for him. Luckily, I am not a Cleveland fan. How he handled the situation was like a slap in the face. Personally, I hope that he NEVER wins a chamionship. The Heat are now almost up there with the Lakers, as far as a team that I will rout against. I'll take Brandon Roy over these guys any day. I'm not suggesting that he is as talented as Kobe or LeBron, but he is likeable and a stand-up guy.  He is a great player and a role-model. Hopefully, the Blazers win a championship soon. It won't be manufactured, but the result of a team coming together. Go Blazers!

This Miami team will NEVER achieve anything without an asterisk right next to it, not unlike Major League juicers.  Those three have therefore placed themselves in a "no-win" situation.

Here is a question to ask ourselves.  Where would the NBA be today IF the past greats, many of whom are speaking out now, WOULD have joined forces?  Would we have had the storied Celtic/Laker rivalry?  Very interesting

i think with this new trend of super stars joining forces, it takes away from the VALUE of winning an NBA championship. That's a sad thing. (unless of course, you're the team that takes down "goliath")

I think LeBron listened to Garnett's advice over the years. IDK what he said exactly but something along the lines of regretting not leaving the T'wolves earlier in his career. To me, i think LeBron was thinking "Do I leave my legacy in the hands of Cleveland management? or do i take matters into my own hands?" and he obviously chose the latter. He knows that to be considered one of the greatest of all time, he has to win championships. In that sense i think it was fear of failure that persuaded him to make his decision. He was afraid of being in his 30s with bad knees and no championships.

I guess from a skill stand point, we can all agree that Lebron is going down as one of the best. Now he's just trying to get the hardware to back it up. People will put the invisible asterisk next to the number of titles he wins, but at the very least, 20 years from now, LeBrons name will be brought up when it comes to the "best ever to play the game" conversation. People will DEBATE about it all day long bc of how he got there, but at least it's DEBATABLE. Maybe that's all Lebron REALLY wants when it's all said and done.

It's such a controversial decision. Do you end up like karl malone and john stockton (and many others), who could never get a championship bc management couldn't get the pieces to take down the mighty bulls? Or do you take matters into your own hands to increase your chances of "success"  I honestly don't like the decision he made, but i don't blame him for making it. With great power comes great responsibility (spider man?). That SUCKS. He worked his butt off to get where he's at. But bc of his status/skill level, people expect him to always do things the way they're "supposed" to be done. It's like "Man i worked so hard to be as good as I am, and look at what i get from the rest of the world!"

I can't think of a legitimate solution to super stars joining forces. I'm sure there's something they could do to make it better. But i feel like if there was a loop hole in the NBA system, it has been exposed.

Man you guys are straight haters. LeBron is already considered to be on of the greatest players to of played the game, not to mention the way he's been putting in work by the time he's 35 he will become the NBA all time scoring champion, look out kareem. But you guys are just putting this Miami team up on a pedestal, they havent even played one game and you think you can already make a decision on their performance, get real. Ima laugh when they clinch their division within the first 2 months of the seaz.

Wow that is ridiculous! You CANNOT equate a baseball player who, knowingly, cheats by using roids to a nba player who, as a free agent, wanted to get himself on a better team. What LeBron did is 100% ok, he broke no rules, didn't cheat, all he wants is to win. I don't see how any fan of the nba can see LeBron as a horrible person, he did a 100% ok thing, his intentions were perfect, he wants to win, can you blame him?

It has not been that long ago since we said the same thing about Kobe. He could not win without Shaq. When the Lakers do it it comes as no big suprise and when someone else finally does it they will never win a championship without each other and they are not in the same class. Unfortunately this is what free agency does I do not forsee them staying together all that long just due to the fact that all their stats are lower I dont see anyone with a 30 point game yet. Will they stay together long enough to dominate like the Celtics? The Bulls? I really seriously doubt it. I think it is going to be like 3 roomates and one XBox and one TV, fun at first but when the beer runs out so does patience. It wont be fun when they are booed everywhere they go and their shoe sales drop.
