    Would you do this trade?
    YES (15)
     42%
    NO (21)
     58%
With LeBron leaving the Cavaliers, they now have to start building from the bottom up. They really had no other stars worthy of building around so now their M.O. should be to shred salary, gain expiring contracts, and acquire young talent as well.

    Bear with me here...

    Portland Trades:
    Andre Miller
    Joel Przybilla
    Jeff Pendergraph
    Rudy Fernandez

    Cleveland Trades:
    Mo Williams
    Anderson Varejao

    TRADE IS SUCCESSFUL

First off, this trade consolidates some of our assests and trims the roster down to around 12-13 depending on if we keep Mills or not. While Mo Williams may not be the best point guard in the world, he would thrive in our system, kind of like Steve Blake on steroids. He'd be able to play off of Roy, because he can knock down the 3, as well as being a huge threat for opposing defenses if they want to double down on our big men or not. Think back to the Rockets of the mid-90's. They surrounded shooters around Hakeem and dared the opposition to play Russian roulette with them. Mo actually reminds me a lot of Kenny Smith back for those Rockets teams. Maybe the more integral piece coming back is Varejao. The prototypical player who you love to hate but love him if he's playing on your side. He'd get backup minutes to LMA right away and prove to be great insurance if any one of our bigs went down. With Camby's age in question, in 2 years Varejao would be able to take over as not only the primary backup to LA but also to Oden as well.

    Depth Chart:

    PG-M. Williams/Bayless/A. Johnson
    SG-Roy/Matthews/E. Williams
    SF-Batum/Babbitt/Cunningham
    PF-Aldridge/Varejao/Cunningham
    C- Oden/Camby

Now, this deal wouldn't be the first one I'd make, but more of a back up plan if we aren't able to get more of a superstar. We still have a logjam in the backcourt, but still much better than the current roster.

If that trade went down do you think the Blazers would have out Anderson Varejao frizzy-afro wigs for opening night :) ?

I think Varejao could have a Buck Williams-like affect on our team. He's tough, hard-nosed, defensive minded, and never quits on a play. Our defense would be unreal.

I don't like Varajao and Mo Williams certainly isn't an upgrade over Miller. That leaves Portland vulnerable at the PG. As far as the Afro-Wig night, you KNOW that would be opening Fan Appreciation Night.

Last thing we need is another player who can sometimes get the ball in the circle. Mo had a hard time stepping up in the playoffs when needed. I dont think we need another player like that. If your just looking to get rid of some players than I guess but Mo for Andre is not a good deal IMO.

Umm let me think.... NO!  LOL  I dont like MO at all since the day when James had to speak for him to make that Allstar team witch he didnt deserv it AT ALL. If it wasnt for James MO would never been an allstar even though it was a one time deal and wont happen agin MO is not that good. I mean what kind of Allstar epicly FAILS in the playoffs?  MO dose haha.  So that trade would be a really bad idea. I would think about Bayless for MO but then agin i would think long and hard LOL dont like that dude at all.....

Why do you think Cleveland stunk it up in the playoffs most the time?
Do you think it could be...
    ___ Anderson Flop-a-jao? ___
    NAHHHHHHHH!! Of course not.
That guys way better then Przybilla, Miller, and Pendergraph combined

wouldn't work out for all sorts of reasons:
This would be the second time Cleveland would have been taken advantage of this off season, you don't blow up your team by getting expiring contracts or players who don't want to be there,  you go after draft picks or other stuff that makes you a cheaper team immediately.
    1. Rudy doesn't want to play in Cleveland
    2. Some say Joel will never play again after that second injury, despite how hopeful killa is.
    3. Andre would make the deal okay for them if they were desperate at the pg, but they have booby gibson that will want starters minutes so that wouldn't be fair to either of them.
    4. Jeff<future draft first round draft pick . I know you guys wanna love people because they are wearing blazer colors, but Jeff is likely to be another Mcroberts, gonna take him a while if ever to find a place as a rotational piece.

I think that would be a GREAT trade. Here's why...

First, Andre Miller in my eyes is on his way out, doesn't quite explode off the dribble like he used too, and plus Mo Williams is money from deep.
Second, I don't see a legitimate reason not to. Honestly read most of these people's posts they wouldn't get a better player because they "don't like" him.

Good grief Charlie Brown grow up, what do you do when you dont like someone in your actual life? cry?

    Great post!

I think trades should be looked at from a talent perspective and if your team is better off by pulling the trigger on a trade, then you do it. I loved Travis Outlaw. He was by far my #1 player, but I realized getting Camby was better for us so I thought it was a good trade. Of course people don't like Varejao, you're not supposed to! He's a player who you hate to play against, but love to play with.

Finally, sure we are giving up 4 players but I value QUALITY over QUANTITY. My Grandpa said we traded away a Cadillac for two clunkers when we moved Sheed for Reef and Theo. At the time I thought he was wrong, but looking back, that trade was God-awful. In essence, I'd take the Caddy's (Mo and Varehao) over 4 mediocre cars.

Thank you. And i completely agree with you on Outlaw, he was so sick, so many different skills. But yeah Camby is a defensive tank and i agree it did benifit the team more, but i miss him.

You want to give up all this for a player who isn't that good of a point guard and didn't really help the best player in the nba win a champ. And a player who only averaged career 6.7 reb, and 7.0 ppg. Yes he's all over the floor and has grit but his numbers are not worth it. True there are things Var. does that help you win, but I think it is giving up to much.
All the talk About not liking players and liking players, trading and not trading for people you like and don't like is so one dimensional.  I think you can have it both ways. I think a team can love the skills and think the person is a complete "A" and not pick them up. In fact I think this is the Blazers standard. The real question is what should you let pass and what should you deem to be toxic to the team and culture. That's the hard Job of management.
Tay C. says people don't want " a better player" ("better" is always a debatable term) because they don't like them. Logically, "the grown up" thing to do in your mind would be to not like any player, but to just get the "best player" It's so simple, just as simple as pie. Well the real world doesn't work like this, Fans and Management want to like their players. The human mind makes judgments based on emotion and this is how humans are wired - kill two bird's with one stone - get people who ARE likable and GOOD BALLERS.

Stats are not the 'end all, tell all' for basketball players. If they were, teams wouldn't be blowing up our phone lines begging for Nic Batum.

These numbers don't exactly 'WOW' you or tell the entire story of just how valuable a player is:

Season Team G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
    09-10 POR 37 25 24.8 0.519 0.409 0.843 0.9 2.9 3.8 1.2 0.6 0.7 0.7 2.2 10.1
    Career   116 101 20.4 0.477 0.387 0.825 1.0 2.1 3.1 1.0 0.6 0.6 0.7 1.9 6.9

Like Batum, Varejao brings a ton of intangibles to the team.

And you know im alright with Anderson running around with his sideshow bob haircut and not taking any shots, because scoring is not everything in basketball, they're are role players, and Varejao is a good one. You see being a fan, i like watching people like LA take shots, so thats exactly why I dont see any problems with the trade. We have about, what is it now 8 guards on this team? But no one seems to want to put any of them to work.

And for the "likable people being good ballers" the only thing i have to say to that is Dennis Rodman.
