Does the Matthews signing mean that Portland is getting ready to trade Rudy. I think that they are getting the pieces in place so they can trade him away. Question is for who.

It should be safe to assume Rudy has seen his last days in a blazers uniform, new management is finally unafraid of offending us (as PA showed when he fired K.P.), so the cancer is being cut away from otherwise healthy body this offseason. He doesn't want to be here, and I'm obviously not the only one who's sick of hearing that. Rudy was a fan favorite I guess....but do we really have a player we don't love as blazer fans? We hated on Dre for a while, but now we love him even more because we feel bad for not giving him a chance to begin with. We will equally love Rudy's replacement, who's guaranteed to be more spirited and WAY MORE driven to win for Portland.
If i had to guess, I'd say this move is going to effect Bayless's minutes the most, imagine a second unit with patty and bayless at the guards spots when we need a small lineup to match up against GS or PHX or PHI

I think the team is setting themselves up (via the draft and free agency) to make a big consolidation move to trim the roster down to a solid 8-9 man rotation with young players filling out the rest of the roster.

Rudy is on the chopping block regardless of whether we get Wes or not. The secret is out. Rudy wants out and we want him out to. Unfortunately, that kills all leverage in trades involving him as the centerpiece.

I think its pretty clear that Rudy is leaving the organization but on the positive we could get a lot of value by trading him. It is pretty clear many teams have needs for his unique skill set.

The Jazz are willing to let Wesley Matthew go they are in the process of signing Al Jefferson  the price is to high to keep WesleyMatthew he has alot to learn  being a rookie  so I hope he work into your system maybe two are three years down the line we are willing to pay Paul but we are not nieve to pay that amount  to Wesley so we will see who laugh last

If Matthews becomes a Blazer, Rudy should stay in Spain and make himself happy.  Matthews was a rookie last year, and played in the playoffs under Sloan. He is exactly what can improve perimeter defense.
    We'll see.

I agree that Rudy has already been on the chopping block, but this puts someone else on the block as well. Depending on how Mills produces in Summer League, which he's done pretty well so far, Bayless may now be a combo piece in a major trade. Getting rid of Rudy and Bayless frees up minutes at both the PG and SG and moves both Mills and Matthews into productive roles. The problem is, nobody wants to trade for Rudy because of the stipulations Rudy is putting out. Although he can't deny a trade, he is telling teams with poor records that want to trade for him that he will refuse to play. He wants starters minutes on a winning team. That has stalled talks with Toronto, Minnesota, New York, and New Orleans among who knows how many others. You may be able to trade him to Boston, Miami, or Orlando in the East. In the West you could trade him to Denver, Dallas, San Antonio, LA, maybe Houston or Oklahoma City, but who are they willing to give up of similar value? Who would they give up for Bayless/Rudy combo and throw in an Expiring contract or two? We've already heard Tony Parker is off the market this year. Houston isn't going to give up Yao or Brooks. Lakers, well we all know there is a one team cleansing any Laker has to go through before coming to Portland. Dallas has a bunch of aging vets nearing the end of their careers which Portland doesn't need. Oklahoma City doesn't have anyone they'd give up that's of value to Portland, and Denver...Denver may be the only real option at this point since Mello has already vocalized that he wants to play in New York which means they may be close to shutting it down and rebuilding. Phoenix should also consider that as well. As far as the East Coast teams, Boston is sitting fat and happy right now, Miami doesn't have anyone on their roster yet, and Orlando is probably not going to give much up. I am anxious to see if the new GM can make anything special happen.
