We all know this by now...and if you don't now you know. I'm not here to rag on LeBron James about this, no. What I want to bring up is our beloved Trail Blazers; that championship just went from WIDE open to we might just have a little road block. What do we do now? How can we improve our team to compete against the inevitable obstacle? Or do we do much at all?

    Here's my thoughts:

Now more than ever we need Nicolas Batum to really, really STEP up. I no longer would trade Batum for Chris Paul, but that doesn't change the fact that we have 14 million in expiring contracts which we could use to bring in another star player to play alongside our already threatening (when healthy) core. The position we could improve at is the PG spot which would be vacated by Andre Miller and the only PG I see who could immediately increase our chances at a championship is Tony Parker. My only issue with him is he's pretty injury prone...and that's the last thing we need on our roster.

That's what I got so far. What do you guys think?

Last but not least, In B.Roy I Trust.

If the real big three in the Celtics (which had a strong bench) couldn't win the championship...Miami has no chance for this upcoming season. So I am not worrying about them. BUT if we do want what could be the best team in the west I would want CP3. The guy does anything and everything you could ask of from a PG and we have Babbitt to back him up. In fact I see Babbitt taking Batums position soon enough.

I haven't seen Babbit play at all, so I can't really gauge his performance.

Comparing the Celtics and this version of the Heats Big 3 is almost comical. Boston had a nice run for 3 years but they are finished. Of the 3 in Boston only Garnett could be considered a superstar but even that could be up for debate. They Celtics are simply old. If the C's are injury free next year they will without doubt make the playoffs but will not be able to beat Chicago, Orlando or Miami.

Never in the history of the game has there been a team that was able to put out 3 legit superstars together in their prime. Chris Bosh is the key, he could easily be the best PF in the game but he has been stuck in Canada for 7 years. It does not matter who Miami puts out there because you have 3 of the best 10 players in the game at key positions. The only thing Miami needs to do is add a shooter to play the SG position and this team is set. The 2010-2011 Miami Heat team could challenge the Bulls 72 game wins  back in the day.

The difference is with the bulls is Michael Jordan did it himself. There was no other superstar on his team, just him. He had a GREAT player in Scottie, but he was no superstar.

Scottie was a superstar, easily. Top 50 Greatest player of all-time, original Dream Team Member, and nearly lead them back to the Finals the year MJ left for Baseball. Pippen will go down as the best perimeter defender of all-time.

here's a pretty good article summing up last night from Woj-

They ended up with that split-screen of the King’s jersey burned live on his infomercial, as this sad, lost robot sat in a leafy suburban gymnasium with children as props and the world watching, those empty eyes masking a lost, dazed LeBron James(notes). This was the champagne shower for the Championship of Me, an exercise in self-aggrandizement and self-loathing that will have far-reaching implications for the NBA and James. What a spectacle, what a train wreck.

As the worst idea in the history of marketing unfolded, James looked trapped somewhere between despondence and defiance. His bumbling buddy Maverick Carter had walked him into the public execution of his legacy, his image, and there was a part of James that clearly wished he could turn back through the doors and hide. Only, it was too late. No going back now. James goes to the Miami Heat, Cleveland goes into a basketball Hades and LeBron’s legacy becomes that of a callous carpetbagger.

“His brand is [bleep] now,” one high-level NBA official said late Thursday. “He’s destroyed everything.”

The Championship of Me became the Championship of Flee, because LeBron James doesn’t believe he can be the centerpiece of a title team. He needed Dwayne Wade, a closer, far more than Wade needed him.

Yes, he’s ruined everything. What a wonderful idea: Divorce your childhood sweetheart on national television and tell her, hey, I’ll let you keep the “We are all Witnesses” billboards lording over downtown Cleveland.

now there is no way the blazers caninvolve Batum in any trade.  Batum is our best perimiter defender and cant afford to get rid of him.  We still need to upgrade at the point by bringing CP3 or tony parker in.  Portland and L.A. are probobly the 2 best teams to match up with the Heat.  We both have defenders to gaurd LeBron,Dwyane,Chris but if we get rid of Batum we dont stand a chance.

in my eyes there will always be an asterisk on lebron. if and when he wins a ring......because thee other great ones to win the rings in recent history. stuck it out with original teams.....michael,magic,bird,duncan....and last but not least there's kobe.....and none of the mention players above were in their home towns. lebron bailed and took the easy road.

anything to keep Batum in my opinion now. It probably should have been my thinking to begin with, but that CP3 trade was like waving a million dollar check in front of my face.

Lightskin350...im sorry bout you are wrong on so many levels. Not only was PP a super star but they were supported by what could be the next greatest pointguard in the game(Rondo). And Bosh is far from a super star...and everyone knows that...please read http://www.iamatrailblazersfan.com/MessageBoardRoot/tabid/158/aff/488/aft/1525/afv/topic/Default.aspx . Your saying bosh is one of the 3 top 10 players in the game but hes not in a top 5 PF. Id take dirk, paul, boozer, david west, antawn jamison, all over bosh.

Bosch plays better defense than all five of them, west and jamison are volume shooters at best (jamison is horrendous at FT's). Dirk, Gasol, Boozer, Stoudamire are great scorers, but could all use a little Cunningham-like hungriness on defense.
