    I'm not a big fan of the number, but its no big deal. This must have been what Armon was talking about during the Live Fan Chats we had on the site when he wanted 23, but he said a vet was going to make the move on it.

    Hmm, interesting, though I think 21 suited him. Does anyone realize it was Martell's number before he changed to 8. Don't know if anyone cares though :-P

    There is probably a reason behind it, like it was his high school jersey or something. I think if it has meaning to the individual, it's fine. If not then leave the number alone.

    First of all Camby had that number with other teams he had played for, and Martell went from 8 to 23, not 23 to 8n, Miles 23 had it before then.

    Wesley wore #23 at Marquette and in Utah, I wonder what # he'll switch to in Portland. I hope its something obscure like 17 or 13.

    True, is #23 worthy of being retired by the league the way Gretzky's #99 was? 
    On one hand again, its just a number. On the other, the Jordan reference is almost always brought up when you wear it in the league.

    The ONLY sports number that should be retired is the #42 worn by Jackie Robinson, because of how integral he was in crossing the race boundaries and paving the way for all of the other African-American athletes. I mean, if we retire #23 for MJ, then you have to go #6 for Bill Russell, etc. Where would the line be drawn?

    I agree with you. It would be like saying MJ did more than Russel, so he qualifies for a retired number, or something along the lines of that. It would be whack, and wouldnt work.
