I love Nate, so don't get me wrong when I say this.... This team needs to run! The reason is their age and frankly i don't think the coaching staff is taking advantage of the incredible athleticism that they have. Think about it Roy, Nic, L.A, Rudy, Bayless, three big men when healthy can run the floor, and a point guard in miller that wants to run. Every player on the roster is very athletic and we need to use that. I would love for coach Nate to work on the transition defense then let the "horses" run. This team could run these older teams (and thats most of them) off the court. The transition defense is the key!

As I'm sure you know, Nate is a possession coach who's pet piev is turnovers.  I couldn't agree more with liking to see a faster pace, or at least opportunistic pushes.  We got a glimpse of what a quality PG can do with the players on this roster last season with Miller and his court vision.  Not only does Nate's style stand in the way, your MVP and franchise player prefers the half court as well.  I believe this fundamental difference between Roy and Miller may have perpetuated the early chemistry issues the two had early last season.  It's an internal struggle.  I would not only like to see things open up, I would like to see some of the offensive strategies Utah implements put to use here in the half court.  Brandon's body won't take much more of this "dump (to #7) and watch" offense, significantly narrowing the championship window with BRoy as your leader.  This predictability offensively has led to teams just being able to "load up" on Roy defensively...especially in the playoffs.  Ofcourse, this has meant wasted talent with the other four standing.  I suspect a big change next year for a variety of reasons.  Hopefully we will both get our wish.

Lastly, it is difficult to run off of made baskets.  Our PERIMETER defense needs to improve DRASTICALLY.  With our bigs healthy last season, how many times were both Greg and Joel in foul trouble?  Why?  Because of the matador defense played out high, and a yellow brick road paved for Dorothy to stroll leisurly down with ball in tow.  Granted, some of that can be attributed to the new hand-checking rules...but not all.  This is where Nic would be missed the most if dealt.

That is what would make a guy like CP3 effective on this team or another defensive minded PG that likes to go for steals. With the defense down low that can block shots, going for steals on the perimeter will be key. It was just impossible without Joel and Greg most of the season. Remember, when we picked up Camby the season was beyond the half-way mark and we were still riddled with injuries. This year should be a much quicker offense due to the focus of transitioning from blocked shots and the exterior defenses ability to gamble on steals thanks to the shot blockers we have. I also think the new coaching staff will aid in mixing up the offense.

They have to get the transition defense part down first, then work on running more.

When Greg is back getting rebounds and blocks there will be lots more opportunity. And like BDawg said, when the perimeter defense gets better, the other teams shooting percentage will go down. More opportunities to run. It's hard to run when you're taking it out of bounds after made shots all the time.

You''re right. They should dump Monta though. I was thinking maybe the Rockets could use the number 1 pick to get the lakers to do a sign and trade for D12.

Paul Allen might sell the Blazers but the Blazers will never leave Rip City.
