Ford: Portland Was Close To Acquiring Paul

    "The Blazers got close to a deal with the Hornets last week that would've sent Andre Miller, Joel Przybilla, Nicolas Batum, Jerryd Bayless and the 22nd pick to NO for Paul before Jeff Bower pulled out of the deal saying that their owner wasn't ready to trade Paul
    Ha! No wonder the Hornets pulled out of the deal, it was highway robbery for the Trail Blazers. Either we wait out the new owner or sweeten the pot with Oden. I think it hurts even more to know we were that close to getting Chris Paul. Maybe he's still our big summer acquisition and we do wait out the Hornets management?

    Wow, they were much closer than I had originally thought, which was KP calling up saying, "Hey, how about Chris Paul?", while Jeff Bower replies "It's not April Fool's Day..." *phone goes dead*
    Honestly I'm surprised it didn't involved taking back Okafor or sending out a player with potential and upside such as Oden.

    Wow KP was like one word away from pulling one of the biggest Pritchslaps since Randy Foye for Brandon Roy. Oh man that team would have been killer.

    Chris Paul, Brandon Roy, ______, LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden

    Bench:
    _____, ______, ______, Dante Cunningham and Marcus Camby.

    Who knows what we would have done draft day after that trade.

    It seem disingenous to say the deal was "close" when the owner wasn't willing to sign off on trading CP3. It's like saying you were close to buying a car that was never for sale.

    Wes Matthews at starting SF with the MLE?
    Armon Johnson backup point, Rudy at the 2, Babbitt at the 3

    Would definitely cause fits out West and might have even been the favorites if Oden were to have a healthy season.

    Yes it would be nice to acquire CP3, and yes, the trade seems nice. However, I believe we would be giving up way to much in this deal. Sending four players for one makes absolutely no sense. For one player we would give up four important cogs in our stout rotation. I say give this team time to gel. I hear everybody say they love KP and the work he did, but everyone is trying to trade off all f the assets he was able to acquire. I feel like Trader Bob is back. Giving away Batum is a bad idea. HE WILL BE A PREMIERE PLAYER SOON!!! Besides we have traded away Outlaw, and Webster to give Batum more floor time...

    All I got to say is, you are bringing in arguably THE best point guard in the game who is entering his basketball prime. Doing this at the same time keeping your current big three.

    man i would love to see CP3 in a blazers jersey but i wouldn't want to give nic and JB!!

    Nic I wouldn't want to see go either, but if you bring in CP3 Jerryd Bayless becomes expendable...if you somehow keep JB and Nic and get CP3 in return..oh boy.
