Now that the Blazers have 4 new players, I am now thinking about the rest of the team and the season that they've had this past year.  Having watched several of their final games during the regular season and during the Playoffs, I feel that it would behoove everyone(all of the players, that is) to practice all of their shots; from shooting to scoring during the time off and try to get everyone's percentages of scoring up to 90+% so that by the time next season comes around(pre-season, regular season, post season) they will be making better baskets and winning more games as a result.  I think this is completely doable, but everyone on the team needs to starts now(actually, they should have started as soon as their season ended).  The team needs to go over everything several times.

To be honest, it does not really matter who the Blazers drafted in this years draft because the Blazers are still two deep at every position except SF and PG. I am not worried about the SF because Batum should give LA a run for his money this year for who is the teams 2nd best player...this kid will be that good this year. PG is a diffrent story...Andre Miller kills this team with his lack of shooting and poor defense. Miller had a great game 1 in the Suns series but he let a 37 yr old Grant Hill force him into jump shot after jump shot...brick after brick. Portland will never be able to contend for a championship until they get a PG who can knock down open jumpers and play some defense. Kirk Hinrich would have been perfect for this team but he is in Washington. CP3 is not in the plans, S.A. would want Batum for Parker, Arenas is owed way to much money, the Nets would want you to take a bad contract to trade for Devin Harris. I think the Blazers will be stuck with Miller for 1 more year so that means one more year of going "fishing" again in the 1st rd for year number 3.

I'm curious what that has to do with the topic that I posted?  If I remember correctly, this was supposed to be about the entire team improving their shooting and scoring percentages.

Brian, the point that I am making is that it does not matter if the team improves it's shooting across the board. First of all, the Blazers shoot way too many jumpers....sure it looks GREAT when they are raining 3's but they are not going anywhere by raising their % across the board. In the western conference you have to have a legit PG to go anywhere...the Lakers get away with it because Kobe is not human on some nights and Roy simply can't do what Kobe does.
Brian, their is a good reason why Andre Miller was the Blazers 3rd option last offseason....he simply is not a good fit for the Blazers. I will bet you any amount of money that Miller will not be the starting PG in late October when the season starts...once Miller is traded, then and only then will you see the Blazers shooting % rise.

Why didn't you just say that to begin with?  I agree that the Blazers take too many jump shots, however, they need to improve in all of their shots and not just jump-shooting.  Free-Throws, 10-footers, attacking the rim, every single type of basket that they can conceivably make, they need to improve all of them.  They brought in Andre Miller because they needed a veteran that has been in the league and has been relatively successful.  They brought in Juwan Howard for the same reason.  And they got Marcus Camby because we didn't have anyone in the middle because of all of the injuries that the team sustained last season.  Consistency is the other problem facing the Blazers.

As for the Lakers, Phil Jackson may be retiring and Kobe isn't going to be there forever.  The problem with the Lakers is that they have way too many options to play with.  Too many big guys to block up the lane with.  And I would have loved to have seen the Celtics beat the Lakers in the Finals.  Unfortunately, that didn't happen.

But getting back to the Blazers, they really need to make improvements in their shot selection and play execution and they need to be able to do it consistantly, which is why I say that they need to practice ALL of their shots now in the off-season and make improvements.  You have to admit they didn't do it so well in the latter half of the season.

    1. The only reason the Blazers signed Miller is because they failed to sign Hedo Turkoglu, and they failed to sign Paul Millsap. Anyone of the two and Miller is playing somewhere else for the mid-leveL EXCEPTION.
    2. The shots that you keep talking about are the same shots that the Suns made Miller shoot and made Miller miss. Miller has never made those shots in his career and that is why Nate never wanted Miller on this team. KP was the one who decided to sign Andre Miller and that is part of the reason why he was dismissed from his position. Roy is the only player that can get his own shot...so Phoenix doubled LA and forced the Blazers into way
too many jumpers and they shot themselves out of the playoffs. You can defend Miller until you are blue in the face....he is a PG who can't shoot, can't defend and has to get his points off of fastbreaks. Portland is a half-court team who slows down the game and forces teams to play the same. As far as Miller being relatively successful....HE HAS NEVER MADE IT OUT OF THE 1st ROUND IN HIS WHOLE CAREER. This team is built to contend for a ring and they will never do that with Miller as their starting PG.
3.The Howard signing was completely for the benefit of Oden...period.

When did this become about Andre Miller?  He is not the only member of the Trailblazers that had problems making shots last season.  I seem to recall LaMarcus Aldrege was one of the players that had problems making shots.  Brandon Roy also had problems making shots.  Martell Webster, Rudy Fernandez, every single one of them had problems.  Juwan Howard isn't a Center, and he also had problems getting shots.  Jeff Pendergraph and Patty Mills didn't play enough minutes last season.

Take this however you want to take it, but it seems to me that neither Turkoglu's or Millsap's respective teams didn't do very well this past season.

I always heard that Nate really wanted Andre. When he came here he said he had always loved his game. I remember that. Also, if any team in the NBA could shoot 90+% across the roster throughout the season, they wouldn't have to do anything else. It wouldn't even matter if they had a point guard on the roster. Really?!?! 90+%?!? the best shooting teams in the league don't even shoot 50% do they?

Actually, there are some teams in the NBA that do shoot better than that.  Phoenix comes to mind, the Nuggets also.  I would also say the Lakers shoot better than that.  I'm sure that there are other teams that shoot that well, but I can't think of them at the moment.  Not 90+% mind you, but they shoot better than 50%.  The thing that I was trying to say is that the shot selection and execution as well as scoring needs to improve.
