    From Hoopsworld-

Luke Babbitt, Forward, Portland Trail Blazers – Nobody appreciates half-court basketball more than Blazers coach Nate McMillan. Portland averaged 90.2 possessions per game last season, which ranked last in the NBA. The Blazers like to slow the pace, set up an offensive rotation and work the ball for the most efficient shot.

But halfcourt offenses need someone who can space the floor, and with Rudy Fernandez likely to follow Travis Outlaw, Steve Blake and Martell Webster out the door, Babbitt is the perfect player to pull defenders away from LaMarcus Aldridge and Brandon Roy.

Babbitt sank 41.6% of his 3-pointers with Nevada this year and an even 50% of his field goals. He's also a 90% free throw shooter who got to the line nearly seven times per game. Sure, the Blazers ranked third in free throw shooting this season, but every team can always get better.

But what will really impress Portland fans is Babbitt's passing skills and surprising athleticism. He isn't just a shooter. Babbitt is a solid basketball player who happens to be an exceptional shooter.

For a player slotted to go as high as 9, this is a great value pick and at a position of need, desperate need. We needed a shooter more than ever after dealing away Trav and Steve and Luke fills the void. Considered the best shooter in the draft, Babbitt can create his own shot as well as spot up and shoot. Deceptively athletic, just like another Trail Blazer named Brandon Roy.

NBADraft.Net rated Babbitt as the 4th best shooter in the draft with the 2nd best post skills.

Even if Babbitt were to draw defenders out LaMarcus Aldridge would be too busy taking long-range jump shots. For some reason or another he seems to have a problem getting down on the low block and rebounding the basketball.....thats why portland ranked last in possessions last season...when you rebound the basketball, you win games. I agree with the fact that Luke babbitt was a steal for us though.

THE BEAR:  Babbitt is a rook, an unproven commodity.  Plenty of kids in the past have been drafted MUCH higher even, and just never panned out...happens every year.  Proof will be in the pudding.

THE BULL:  He does seem to possess the neccessary skills set to help this team.  I personally, will be at a good many games next season and am anxiously looking forward to hearing the RG crowd chanting..."LLLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUKE!!"

Although a fan of Marty, draft day steal...if for no other reason, both Martell and the team are better off with him in a Minnesota uni

His acquisition says one thing to me. Batum is going to get that 28+ minutes a game. So overall, I'm happy.

batum and possibly this guy instant offense off the bench, should be exactly what we need, always a 3 that can spread the floor for us.

I don't know enough about this player to have an opinion.

Can't wait to see him in action during Summer League. He'll be able to come in, with no pressure of being the team's savior, like a lot of these rookies will be, and just play 10-12 minutes behind Batum and score. He is going to be our next Travis Outlaw. He can create his own shot as well as catch and shoot. Although he tested great at the combine and is a superb athlete, he isn't on Trav's level there, but he has post skills and uses his jab step to free defenders, whereas Outlaw used his jumping ability to rise over defenders to get his shot off. So their end result is the same, putting the ball in the hoop. They just get it in there in different ways.

I wouldn't have liked this pick in the top 10, but at 16, the value is amazing!

I will have an opinion after summer league.
I didnt take the draft as serious this year. Thought it would be nothing. No interest in rookies .
No one is at Travis' level when it comes to jumping to create his own shot.
I trust the " Blazer team " to make the right decision on players.

First need is a centre. And no one will take ten and 13 for 4th or 5th. After like the 10th pick the talent off is huge.

@Meese, it is quite ironic. They also just so happen to have the planets best player in Lebron James who leads them in rebounding with just over 8 a game.
