The excitement I once had with this years draft approaching, quickly turned to confusion and disappointment.  With the news that KP was fired came many questions.  Tomorrow, as Kevin is cleaning out his desk, WHO is now at the healm to upgrade this team with what would have to be a blockbuster, "stop the presses" type deal?  Seriously?  Paul Allen?  Nothing scares me more.  With potentially one of the biggest deals in franchize history NEEDING to be made, we are without a GM.  Dealing away a great piece for rookies and an unknown, was peculiar as well.  Martell had value.  Unless the deal sending him to Minnesota was part of something much bigger on the horizon, I can't support it.  Yes, I am aware of the impressive stats Luke posted...IN COLLEGE and against COLLEGE competition.  Marty, as I've stated on this site in the past, was a rythym guy who...due to the injuries...never did get a consistent role to where he COULD establish a rythym.  The guy was due for a break out year, and will now have the opportunity for someone else.  Jermaine Oneal-like.  Very frustrating.  He was one of, if not the only player on the roster that could shoot lights out, and/or put the ball on the floor and create for himself, sometimes finishing will flare over the top.  Where is this franchize headed and WHO is steering?  Chris Paul, I'm hoping, is still in our sites, and may be acquired for less closer to the trade deadline.  Patience is a virtue, or so they say.  By then we SHOULD have an acting GM.  What are YOUR thoughts?

Now we get  to know that the only qualification you need to make executive decisions about the Blazers, is to be Paul Allens college room mate. And that Paul Allen will continue to throw $ at his pg fettish , and Nate will continue to keep them on the bench. Sad day in Blazer land, glad I did not renew my seats when I was pressured by the Blazer office. I will NEVER feel the same about Mr Allen.........

I really don't understand why everyone is pilling on when we have NO IDEA what it was that got KP fired.  If it was simple politics where Pritchard positioning himself to ask for a better job, then yes, I think Vulcan and Allen deserve all the criticism.

But, if it was something else, something deeper that KP and Tom Penn actually did wrong, then perhaps:

    1. We'll never get to know what it was.

    2.  His firing was completely deserved and called for, and they only kept him around till the draft to not destroy everything he's worked for.

I simply can't bring myself to believe that he was fired over simple politics.  I have to believe there was something more.

It doesnt matter why.  IF there was a reason, KP deserved to be treated better than he was after what he has done to turn this franchise around PERIOD !!  It's an embarassment to the franchise. Since I dont have anything nice to say about the future at this point, I'm out !!

To reply to the first post:

Chad Born and Mike Buchanan, the Trail Blazers lead scouts will handle the day to day operations for now until the GM search has been finalized.

Secondly, we had Martell for 5 years. Great kid on and off the court. But he was not consistent enough in his role off of the bench. When the team needed him to play 35 minutes in January when everyone else was hurt, he thrived, but that playing time opportunity was not available here. Babbitt is someone who will be able to come in off the bench and flat out fill it up.

There is absolutely no arguing the numbers this kid Babbitt puts up.  However, that being said, I have to question whether or not he can survive, let alone thrive at THIS level in THIS particular system.  He will have to possess the athleticism neccessary to create for himself.  To date, Nate's offense doesn't include things like SCREENS and MOTION.  He will be facing NBA caliber defenders, one-on-one...not college players in a zone with holes and pockets.

While on the subject of the newest Trailblazers post draft day, I must admit I may have jumped the gun with my initial post.  Call it a knee-jerk reaction to a Blazer being traded that I was high on, and one I didn't expect to be moved quite so soon (before Rudy even).  I gave the team an A for draft day.  Though sad to see Web go, excited for his new opportunity and fully expect him to blossom by mid-season, if not before.  The newest Blazers seem to fill all needs...and relatively inexpensively...except one BIG one.  No need to open that can of worms here, we all know what that need is.

With regard to KP...we all have to take a step back and admit to ourselves that we don't know WHAT went on off camera and away from any microphone.  Moves made during KP's time here were overall, very sound.  That being said, again...we don't know WHO actually said WHAT with those deals.  Don't assume KP was SOLELY responsible for all that was good.  The only part of his dismissal I personally take exception to, was the VERY public nature of it....a national stage.  Not really understanding why THAT was neccessary.  I still am of the belief that we, as fans, are VERY fortunate to have Paul Allen as the owner...period.
DHawes22:  Thank you for answering my question/concern.  In Born/Buchanan I trust.  Isn't is possible too, that KP fired one last important shot across the bow on his way out and more or less set the table for something after the 1st?  Peace...

The rest of the off-season is going to be a barn burner for us. I'm sensing some BIG moves. Basically everyone not named Brandon Roy is attainable if the price is right. Not to say everyones going to be traded.

    Likely trade baits:
Andre Miller with his expiring contract
Joel Pryzbilla also with his expiring contract
Rudy Fernandez...not really for him to play for the team he would get traded to, but for a team who wants to clear up salary possibly. There are some rumors that Rudy is going back to Europe..so a buyout of his contract is possible.

speaking of courtside, when they broke the news, i noticed they quickly stopped talking about KP getting fired, then the next day the oregonian said that they were told to stop talking about it. Its a firing. Not a UFO cover up or something. KP was awesome, i just dont understand the secrecy about it. You fire a guy, have the balls to tell us the fans why, who's the ones buying tickets and shirts? Us. This is our team and we should know. Maybe its because KP didnt draft a Telefair, or because he didnt sign a Miles to a stupid contract. Ive never understood why innocent people get cut, as in coaches. A team struggles, coach gets fired, why should the coach take all the heat? If you have a team of guys that dont care and just want money, how can you blame a coach? Sorry for the rambling, just think we as fans who've gone through years of jokes and punch lines, have a right to hear why the guy that changed all that got fired .

Maybe kp got fired because the blazers were knocked out in the first round off the playoffs two years in a row with the team he put together and this was not good enough for PA. I think PA wants a championship and 1st round exits don't cut it. Yes injuries injuries injuries but maybe there is something in the oden durant pick. who wanted who and who's saying we should have, could have. Fact is PA probably has lost confidence in KP to get that championship. we keep talking about the jail blazer era and how awesome kp did to bring us back from the edges of the prison system, yet I think I would rather have a team go deep into the playoffs with straight up thugs then see first round exists. I mean how many people care that kobe cheated on his wife or raped a woman in denver as long as he's the black mamba and there's a championship parade. point is, just not being the jail blazers gets kinda boring if your not winning playoff games. I think PA is awesome and should shake up his generals to get them to produce HIS satisfactory results. Kp didn't and now he's out. He is no better than a player who has a sub par performance and needs to be moved. We should stop and ask what is our standard for the GM, It should be a championship or damn close to it. KP failed and he paid for it-I say GOOD.
