My first thought when I heard this was, "AGAIN?" They have already had 4 changes to the color/jersey in the past 14 years. If they were smart, just change the franchise name to something pertaining to Utah and give the Jazz name back to New Orleans where it belongs? Because their logo now, with a ball and mountains has NOTHING to do with Jazz. I think it should be a rule that is a team moves to a different city they need to change names because, for example, there are no lakes in Los Angeles.

Here are the changes they have had since 96:
Up until the change in 96-

    From 96 till about 2004

    Added Alternate Around 2000

    Current

They should of changed the nickname way back when they moved...i'm pretty sure Jazz music isn't the first thing to come to mind when thinking about Utah. As a designer, been pretty disappointed with most of the pro team identities as of late (last decent redo I can remember was the broncos). Some colleges have done some pretty nice ones (Marquette i think redid theres recently)

OKC could of done something really special with the Thunder name but chose that horrible logotype. :(

Utah Jazz Return To Roots, Release New Logo-

     Note_635x289_medium

There's the final product.  I think it looks fantastic.  I wish it would have had Utah on but this is great.  It's great to finally get rid of the mountain logo.  Wait, what is this?

I thought once the note was back the mountain logo would be gone.  I didn't mind the mountain logo but I looked at the revealing of the new note as a new starting point.

The thing I don't get with keeping the mountain logo is that the Jazz font doesn't match the new one.  It's like it just changed its colors to fit in with the new school but looks out of place.  I think the original one was designed with the colors in mind.  This is just swapping them out to match the new scheme and it doesn't fit.  As long as it's used in a minimal role, it'll be okay. It's definitely better than this,

My guess is that it might end up on the uniforms in some way, maybe at the tip of the V in the neckline or on the side of the shorts.  I think the home unis are going to be fine, I worry a bit about the road uniforms though, specifically the alternates.  We haven't done well with those,

I know a lot didn't like the baby blues, I didn't mind them.  I hate the black/rust ones though.

My last thought on this is that this is the end of uniform/logo changes.  You have classic logos like the Celtics, Yankees, Dodgers, etc.  You just don't change things when you have a good thing.

So despite the mocking we might receive for having the Utah Jazz as a name, the Jazz, and the logo, are entrenched now in the history of Utah and in the NBA.  People say there is no Jazz in Utah.  Well, we've had Jazz in Utah for over 30 years so I don't know what they're talking about.

I actually love the Jazz logo. The color are still horrific, but at least they are old school which I love and love when teams go back to their roots (ala the Sixers this year). But please, get rid of that stupid mountain logo Utah! It has NOTHING to do with your team name!

So they've basically merged two eras of Utah basketball into one with the mountain and note logo and put a retor twist on it by going back to the original colors? HUH?!? I hope the mountain logo is temporary and the note logo is perfect, because the mountain logo looks like crap. Glad to see they are going retro though. It worked well for the Pistons and Sixers.

I still don't get it. The original color scheme (purple, gold, and green) are from Mardi Gras which is the color of New Orleans (the home city). Then they move to Utah and change it to blue. Just change the name. You're Utah for crying out loud. Just trade names with the Hornets. You are the Bee state, they're the home of Jazz. Call it an even trade and get it over with. I can see the headlines now, first name trade in NBA history! We can finally start making some sense of the crazy names. The Grizzlies can change their name to the "Runners" alluding back to prohibition or the "Jacks." Their team captain can always wear No. 7 (think about it, it will come to you).

Good pickup on the color scheme RCR as well as pointing out Utah is the bee state. They should just switch names I don't know why it took me until now, but I thought they were going back to purple, but its a navy blue. I'm not sure I like it. The jerseys should be a heckuva lot better though. I think they are unveiling them in August and their court at the draft.
