    The essentials-

    Portland Trades:
    Rudy Fernandez
    Victor Claver
    #22

    Minnesota Trades:
    Jonny Flynn

The salaries don't match so we'd have to send over about 1.5 extra million in salaries (maybe the #22 once we pick them)

    Why For Portland?
It rids Portland of someone who doesn't want to be here and another young draft pick that a lot of people seem to think we can do without. It also gives the Blazers a chance to buy low on a player who was taken #5 but simply doesn't fit into the triangle offense, which is why he looked disappointing last year. Also, Portland can let JB/Flynn battle it out for future point guard. If Flynn wins, then move JB over to the 2 and have a future 3 guard rotation of Flynn, Roy, and Bayless. Flynn is a good shooter so he shouldn't have a problem playing off of Brandon. He also likes to get to the hoop.

    Why for Minnesota?
For a young, terrible team, the more draft picks they can accumulate the better. It might also help them trade up to #2 to snag Evan Turner. They already have Ramon Sessions who can man down the fort for a year while they wait for Rubio. And that's it right there. They get Rudy/Claver to entice Rubio to come over.

    New Depth Chart:
    PG-Miller, Flynn,Bayless
    SG-Roy,Bayless
    SF-Batum,Webster,Cunningham
    PF-Aldridge,Cunningham,Pendergraph
    C-Oden,Camby,Przybilla,Pendergraph

We'd still have #44 to pick as well as the Mid-Level Exception to sign either a backup power forward or a sharp-shooting small forward (Miller,Korver) and Joel's expiring contract to play around with come the trading deadline.

    Yay or Nay?

Nay. Only because it's counter-productive to both Flynn and Bayless development. Both of them are scoring PGs, they need minutes. People keep saying bayless is a 2 guard. No he's a SCORING point guard. To name a few scoring pgs, Tony Parker, TJ Ford, Chauncey Billups, and Damon Stoudamire in his playing days. Sharing minutes wont do both any good and would hurt both of their stocks.

I like the Spainards for Flynn idea.  But I'm not sure Minnesota would go for it. It's actually trading  Flynn a starting pg for Rudy, a back up 2 who didn't do a lot to impress other teams last season, a draft pick and the hope that Claver and Rubio come over. I wouldn't trade Flynn for another starting pg at this point.

I like Flynn, but I think you can get a better trade involving Rudy than Flynn especially if you throw in picks pieces. I would rather throw in Bayless and the 6 mil. exception and get a guy like Harris or even Ray Allen in a sign and trade.

I don't know much about this Flynn character but, i'm okay with Rudy being gone. I think that the only place that we are somewhat weak is in the point gaurd position. If we had someone that could consistanly keep other defenses on their toes, it would take Mr. Roy's game to the next level

Although each team over the salary cap gets an approximate $6 million to sign a free agent (MLE), it can't be used in a trade as a trade exception to make up a salary difference between players (IE: Rudy + $6 mill for Devin Harris).

Back to the trade topic at hand-

Rudy, Claver and even #22 would not be enough to get Flynn. I assume they'd want a future 1st and/or taking back on their poorer contracts. He was the #5 pick last year. I don't think they'll abandon him that quickly, especially with Rubio not coming over for a while.

Even though I would like to trade Rudy, Victor Claver, and #22 to Minnesota I think Portland will not trade Rudy.  If Portland would trade Rudy then would we use the package to get to the 4th pick and would that bring us the player we want.

I see Bayless/Flynn minute issues there. You probably would have to throw in Bayless to get Flynn in my opinion. Bayless starts in MIN, Flynn becomes a back-up: Flynn probably wont be down with that.

Thanks for clearing up the MLE. Unfortunately the coming of "Jesus" appears to be a pipe dream for me. I hear Mike miller, but I'm not seeing t like everyone else. He's getting to the point in his career where something goes wrong. Every white guy in the histor of the NBA has started breaking down at his age.  I really feel like he would be the acquisition we never see if we were to go get him. I could see him being similar to Wesley Person. What are the other options out there? Even if a trade was necessary? A middle career guy, sharp trigger shooting guard that knows how to play off the balll. Who is that?

Kyle Korver and Anthony Morrow fit the bill. Morrow would come cheaper and is younger. Korver may not leave Utah and is probably at his peak right now. Personally, I'd roll the dice on Morrow and move Martell over to the backup 3.

    Facts:

    1.  Rudy does not want to be in the NBA
    2.  His trade value is next to nothing
    3.  Rudy wants to be in Spain with his family

Result:  Let's sell Rudy to a team in Spain and use the money to buy a first round draft pick in next years draft.

Cho wants to get a first round draft pick for Rudy so this would fit.  What do you think?  I am sorry to change directions on the draft but I am looking at what is possible.

I would do this trade in a second, but I dont think it is realistic, if Rudy would have just kept his mouth shut and not killed his trade value it would be a different story.

    really?
you dont think we have enough rookies?
    or enough unexperienced players??
I was attracted to this team for its youth and talent yes, but c'mon you cant just keep trying to obtain rookies and or sophomore players, you wont have any depth in your roster.
The fact of the matter is, you cant just spend all your time and effort focusing on your starters, because they cant play the whole game. The Blazers bench has definetly seen better days, its full of kids, you might have camby starting this year, so you lose him from that category then.
Teams like LA and Boston, have pretty damn good players that come off their bench, now it may not be THE reason that they always win, but im sure its one of them, point being that a solid bench is beneficial to a team looking to win.
I say they shoot for someone with enough years in the league to now all the tricks.
CJ miles, maybe, **but of course i only want superstars on this team so*

Cj Miles, or a solid PF, i feel could really benefit this team.

Whoa! This thread was resurrected from the dead! Anyways, I think we'd have to give up too much and Flynn is already hurt and will miss a couple months of action. I've got confidence in Bayless or Armon becoming a stud point guard for us once Dre decides its time to hang 'em up.

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
