Yes, I'm a Laker fan. Yes, I also pay attention to the Blazers, I moved to Portland 10 years ago. Right now the Lakers are in the finals, the Blazers aren't. Just the facts ma'am. Position by position the Lakers are pretty darned talented vs Celtics and anyone else. I'm not sure how long that roster will be around like that. 2-3 years? The Blazers will compete soon IF they can stay healthy.

Who would you rather: Oden or Bynum? Both are major pieces in the long term future. Both have had health issues. Bynum is been in the league longer, more seasoning, Oden seems to be wider and a better rebounder. Who would you want to have on your roster? Right now, for obvious reasons (health) I'll take Bynum. Long term, I don't know. I'll do some more posts later about the other positions too.

I love a good rivalry, that's why we're fans, right?

Very right. I think at this point for next season I'll take Greg Oden. He's overall better, but the health issues are obviously a problem...who knows maybe the bad luck is over.

The way I see it, we are Oden with knee braces, a healthy Roy, and resigning Blake as a back up pg away from Phoenix's route this season. But we maych your length.
So like I tell all Laker fans, enjoy while you can ;)

To answer the question in the title-
I'm honestly not sure I'll ever see a Blazers championship in my lifetime. While watching on Versus yesterday, they highlighted the 04 Pistons and 05 Spurs and when the Spurs came on, all I could think about was the Memorial Day Miracle shot Sean Elliot hit to kill any hope of beating them. Instead of LA running off 3 straight titles, it could've been us (99,00,01) We were so close in 99 and 00, and I believe had we won in either year, we wouldn't have imploded in 2001 when we had the best record at the All-Star Break.

It just seems like most franchises in the NBA not named the Lakers, Bulls, Celtics, Spurs or Rockets that we always run into something preventing us from being really special. In 77, we were on the verge of a dynasty, only to have injuries derail any of those hopes. In the 84 draft we lose the coin flip, losing the chance to draft Olajuwon. In the early 90's, not being able to bring Sabas over from the USSR thwarted our chances at a title and we ran into MJ. Currently, we have a top 3 Center, potentially the most dominant, but bad luck has brought injuries upon him. I'm not being pessimistic. I've seen a lot in my 20 years as a fan, and some franchises are just lucky and others, not so much. I'll always root and hope for a title, but it's going to be tough. I've always said, I'll die a happy man if I'm alive to see a Trail Blazers championship :D

I'll say this much though. I'll take Oden over Bynum in a heartbeat. Bynum, even when healthy, is nothing special in my opinion. Offensively, he's further along than Greg, but Greg is a better athlete and is a monster on the boards/defense. I hate to put the weight of the world on Oden, but if he can return to his 2010 pre-injury form and stay healthy, we will finally be that special team that is the envy of the rest of the league.

We will Hawes, but we have to get past the mentality of " waiting for Oden " for it to happen.   His ability is never in question, it's keeping him on the court that is the problem.

Or Greg's first regular season game where he sent Bynum's first hook shot into the backcourt!

The Blazers will get there, that's not the question. The question becomes when, how long? I do not think this current era of Trail Blazers will make a Finals appearance UNLESS Oden stays healthy, so it may be another 10 years until we get a shot.

Bynum's line last night was 21 points, 7 BLOCKS! Rebounding was poor, 6 BUT 7 blocks is huge. D-Fish Kobe need to clamp down more on Ray Allen.

Bynum averaged 8+ boards per game for the season and 1.45 blocks. 15ppg to go along with it. I hear you about the offensive end, as that's evident with the PPG, but DHawes, Bynum isn't too shabby on the defensive end or rebounding. I have yet to see Oden do that. When do you guys stop hoping for him to be on the court and try to move around him? Just curious. We were at a tipping point when Kobe wanted to be traded or bring in help. We brought in the help and it has paid off.

I don't want to get into any arguments, but the Lakers organization was handed Pau Gasol over on a silver spoon, which is why they have made the Finals 3 years in a row.

7 blocks is impressive, but for Bynum, I see it as more of the exception and not the rule. The bottom line when comparing the two is, when healthy, Oden's the better defender/rebounder and for the time being Bynum has the edge on the offensive end, but with Oden's raw skill set and talent, he will eventually become the better player on that end of the floor as well. There was a reason why Greg was considered the most hyped big man in the draft Since Tim Duncan and Shaq. The question is about whether he has talent or not, its whether the big fella can stay on the court.

It's a formula that wins championships. You need a awesome guard, awesome big man, and awesome role players, I can't remember a team that didn't have these pieces playing healthy and at the highest level; You don't win championships without these pieces (except all the Detroit teams (no great big men)-strange and the Bulls, No big man, Longley?). Do we have the basic ingredients to win (Assuming this premise is correct) I think Roy is great and can become even better, good role players,The Big man is the question-right? Yes it is and yes we have the basic formula and the players to accomplish a championship in the next five years IF IF IF IF we build this team. The one we have right now. Play together healthy and get close, know one another and read each others minds. KP needs to get new talent, but not at the expense of the talent he has already found. We need to develop the talent he was so wise in getting in the first place. The formula to win is time together assuming the pieces are there. I think the major pieces are here. Five years, five years, five years, in the next five years we will flip that crown in front of the rose garden. DISCLAIMER: predictions based on health and players we keep and team we play and luck, in essence it's my hope that it happens.

We are almost there for that championship run. Besides being healthy, we need to improve on a few areas. One is we need some sort of consistent post presence. All the great teams had it, minus the Chicago Bulls of the REAL Kings area (Michael Jordan) for obvious reasons. Spurs with Duncan, Rockets with Hakeem, Lakers with Kareem, Celtics with Parish and McHale...and even further Bill Russel. '04 Detroit had Rasheed in his prime mixed with Ben Wallace.

2 we need a better bench. I really do think our bench is good, but not great. Phoenixs' bench TORCHED through the playoffs, all positions outside of the center slot need improvement either through development or adding it on.
