    From Y! Sports-

The Portland Trail Blazers have empowered a private headhunting firm to research and reach out to potential general manager candidates, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The use of the firm is further evidence embattled GM Kevin Pritchard has fallen out of favor with ownership and likely will be replaced before next season.

At least two current NBA front-office executives have been targeted, sources confirmed, and the firm has also made several fact-finding calls about Oklahoma City Thunder GM Sam Presti.

Pritchard lost a power struggle with Blazers president Larry Miller. His top ally and assistant GM Tom Penn was fired late in the season. Pritchard had sought a contract extension last year only to be rebuffed. AOL Fanhouse reported Pritchard’s courtside seat next to owner Paul Allen had been taken away this season.

Ownership has refused to give Pritchard a public show of support, and multiple sources say Vulcan Inc., which oversees the Blazers, had become fed up with Pritchard’s egocentric behavior.

Sources say some potential candidates are uneasy about the ownership dynamic in Portland. Vulcan Inc. has a history of meddlesome behavior, and some established NBA front-office executives are hesitant over a structure where they fear they’ll have little chance to establish and carry out their own philosophies and organizational framework. With Miller and popular coach Nate McMillan, the Blazers have two powerful and entrenched figures firmly in place.

Nevertheless, this is still a largely appealing job because of the solid state of the franchise’s talent base and a motivated and wealthy ownership group. Pritchard is still preparing for the June draft and making cursory calls on potential trades. Agents dealing with him say he’s toned down his verbiage, no longer making bold proclamations about his ability to buy draft picks and move up to snare their clients. It’s clear he can do little, if anything, without the approval of his superiors.

On one hand, it's not surprising. The writing has been on the wall for some time now. Whatever KP has done or did, it's not going over well with PA and those Vulcans. On the other hand, AWoj is probably the biggest KP hater on the internet, so he could be pulling this information from very unreliable sources. Either way, can the dang Blazers just have ONE summer/offseason without any drama?

PS- No chance in hell we get Sam Presti. OKC is in the perfect situation right now. So let's thwart that pipe dream now.

just a little rediculous. i hate vulcan so much. it's not right. KP may have some issues but he hasn't failed the franchise with his decisions yet.

There will be a huge negative response from Trailblazer fans if Paul Allen and company decide to dump GM Kevin Pritchard.  Kevin has been a key in rebuilding the fan base in Portland.  It would be a terrible mistake to let him go.  Paul, do not do this.  We want to see him seated next to you at future games.

In my opinion Paul Allen needs to make a decision about what he wants to do with KP. KP's been a good GM and I think it's really disrespectful of Allen to not give him any assurances about his future here or to tell him that after his contract is up that he's gone. That public statement Allen released a while ago was so general and vague that it really didn't give KP any clue as to his future. I wish he'd either keep KP or let him go, not this wishy-washy stuff we've been dealing with. Because if that article is true, that KP isn't as bold with his declarations of what we're doing in the draft, then we could seriously be screwed by that. So not only is it not fair to KP, it's not fair to the team.

I'm a huge supporter of KP. I think he's done a great job. At the same time, it's a business. I hate that it's a business but it is. It is a business that is run by Vulcan Inc. and an owner who has the unfortunate reality of having to considder the one's mortality. Although some of us live everyday like it could be our last, others live most their lives never even giving it a thought and see ourselves as having endless amounts of time to accomplish our goals. The reality is, KP might not be in this situation if he'd given Nate the veterans he'd asked for two years ago. I don't want to even begin to pretend like I know what has been happening behind the scenes. Something had to have happened that we don't know about that has brought this situation on. You don't go from the face of Blazers Administration to professional pariah with out more happening than what's being said. There has always appeared to be a disconnect between Nate and KP. They are just never on the same page. For what this is as a concern regarding KP, I think it may be an endorsement to Coach Nate.

what do you expect here, AOlfanhouse is pretty much a public relations firm for the l.a. lakers (like fox news is to the republican party). while pieces of this may be true, i'd be extremely surpised if this isn't being blown out of proportion. what ever may happen, i'll believe it when i see it (or don't; whichever the case may be).
