    Stay Or Go?

Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard. It has been an interesting 10 months for Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard, who is entering the final year of his contract.

Heading into last summer, Pritchard promised aggressiveness and activity in targeting free agents. He went after the marquee free agent of the summer in Hedo Turkoglu but came up short when Turkoglu backed out (which, after a listless season in Toronto, seemed to be a lucky break for the Trail Blazers).

Option two, Utah's Paul Millsap, also fell through after the Jazz matched the Trail Blazers' offer sheet.

But, as they say, the third time's the charm. Pritchard and the Trail Blazers then turned to free agent Andre Miller. Miller was one of only two Trail Blazers to appear in every game for Portland this season.

Since taking over the GM role in 2007 Pritchard has made multiple draft-day deals and stockpiled talent, helping build this team from the worst record in the NBA to back-to-back 50-win seasons and playoff berths.

But Pritchard has been far from perfect. He has shown a reluctance to make in-season trades or move a big expiring contract. In some circles, there is a belief that he overvalues the talent he has stockpiled. And Pritchard will tell you himself he has flaws.

Shortly after acquiring Marcus Camby at the trade deadline last February, the heat was turned up on Pritchard. Tom Penn, his right-hand man, was abruptly fired and rumors began circulating that Pritchard could be next. At a hastily called press conference with Pritchard and team president Larry Miller in March, it was evident there was a rift somewhere.

While visibly uncertain of his long-term future with the team, Pritchard pledged his support to the organization and vowed to continue working hard for the Blazers every day.

"I'm going to give everything I've got: blood, sweat and tears," Pritchard proclaimed.

Three days later, owner Paul Allen issued a somewhat hollow statement that read, in part: "I support everyone who works for me, including Kevin Pritchard, and that's why he's our general manager."

Though no timeline has been set on a decision regarding his future, Pritchard has repeatedly stated he wants to be in Portland. Most recently, Pritchard has acknowledged he not only wants this team to get better but that he himself wants to get better.

"I need to look in the mirror, I have to get better and I'm willing to do that," Pritchard told the media following the end of the Trail Blazers' season. "I've made some mistakes but I want to do better."

Asked if he could imagine a scenario where he wouldn't be the GM moving forward, Pritchard replied, "I hope not."

Not all fans are lucky enough to be on the fan advisory board, or to meet KP personally. I have been lucky enough for both.
When I met KP, he had just been named interim coach after Cheeks was fired 5 + years ago now?  KP made me believe that he was going to make a difference, and he has.
The KP in the above picture has a lot more gray hair, and looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders now.
I can only hope that before Mr Allen or the Vulcans make a decision, they look back to the Jailblazer days, and look at this team now. KP may not have done it all by himself, but he was a very big part of the turn around.  We would not have this great team if not for him.
Letting him go would be a huge mistake , imo.
Anyone who hates on KP is jealous, plain and simple !

In KP we trust. The positives hes done for this franchise out weight the negatives at this point.  He got the fans back into the Rose Garden and made it a viable product once again. If the rumors are true and he's gone after the draft, whatever team hires him will be my secondary NBA team :-P.

His drafts have been spot on (even would have been more so had he listened to his own mathematical calculations and picked Millsap in the 2nd round! [one can be greedy, right?!]) and the trades have been great. The biggest reason I like him is he doesn't have knee jerk reactions. I wouldn't be too happy had we traded for Richard Jefferson or Vince Carter with our cap space (Raef's expiring deal at the deadline) as well as the rumored deal where he passed on Gerald Wallace b/c they wanted Batum. He is a very smart basketball guy and we are fortunate to have him as our GM! Plus, he makes the draft interesting and intriguing every year no matter if we are picking #1 or have no picks at all.

Stay. Very personable and approachable from a fan's point of view. The players seem to like him and his track record speaks for himself. What's not to like?

The Blazers were winning!  That is the key word, were.  Blazers are living proof that you can live and die by the jumper.  Lately it has been dying.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
