    From Y! Sports-

Boston Celtics assistant Tom Thibodeau has emerged as the frontrunner for the New Orleans Hornets’ coaching job and an offer could be forthcoming in the near future, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Hornets are moving toward formulating an offer for Thibodeau and don’t want to risk losing him to another team with a coaching vacancy.

Sources say it’s been an excruciating process because general manager Jeff Bower and president Hugh Weber have also been impressed with their other finalist, Portland Trail Blazers assistant Monty Williams. Sources say Hornets point guard Chris Paul(notes) has also been an advocate for the Portland assistant coach.

Nevertheless, the Celtics’ success in the postseason has again crystallized Thibodeau’s strength as a defensive coach.

Chicago Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf has been effusive in praise of Thibodeau to league friends, and New Jersey Nets GM Rod Thorn has him on his short list of coaching candidates. The revitalization of the Celtics in this postseason, especially a defense that Thibodeau oversees, has been a boon to his head-coaching candidacy. Continue Reading>>>

Looks like this takes Monty out of the running for the NO job and Collins has taken the Philly gig, so where will he land? Selfishly, I want him back on our bench, because I see what the rest of the league sees, which is a superb talent. I'd love for him to stick around at least one more season.

Selfishly, like you, I share the same thoughts. However, Monty's time to be a head coach is drawing ever so closely.

If it meant demoting Dean Demopolous and promoting Monty to lead assistant, I would do it to keep him around. There's a reason why Monty was the coach standing up, talking to the players/officials when Nate couldn't due to his injury. Keep Monty please!

I too would like to see Monty back for at least one more season, but he's going to get a head coaching job sooner than later. I could be wrong but hasen't Monty coached the summer league team the past few seasons?

I believe last year it was Joe Prunty and the year before it was Monty Williams. I am pretty sure they rotate the job amongst the assistant coaches.

If Monty doesn't get the ATL or NJN jobs, I don't see him leaving this season. The other openings are too prime time for a first time head coach to get offered the job (Bulls,Cavs).

New update out of New Orleans. According to Marc Stein of ESPN, the Hornets have given Thibodeau a deadline to accept or reject the coaching position.

The New Orleans Hornets offered their vacant coaching job to Boston Celtics assistant Tom Thibodeau last week, but they're prepared to move on if Thibodeau has not accepted the job before Game 1 of the NBA Finals, according to sources close to the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Hornets don't want to let their coaching search drag beyond this week and plan to offer the job instead to Portland Trail Blazers assistant Monty Williams if Thibodeau, architect of Boston's vaunted defense, doesn't accept by Thursday. CONTINUE READING>>>

This, along with Y! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski tweeting:
Hornets GM Jeff Bower has been strongly weighing today the pulling of Thibodeau offer and turning to Portland's Monty Williams, sources say.

@Meese, it is quite ironic. They also just so happen to have the planets best player in Lebron James who leads them in rebounding with just over 8 a game.
