    Position: PG
    Height/Weight: 6-0/175
    NBA experience: 1 season
    2009-10 salary: $457,588
Contract status: Patty Mills was selected by the Trail Blazers in the second round (55th pick overall) of the 2009 NBA Draft. He is a restricted free agent.

2009-10: Mills appeared in 10 NBA games, totaling 26 points and five assists in 38 minutes ... Scored a career-best 11 points April 14 vs. Golden State ... Recalled from D-League's Idaho Stampede on Jan. 23 ... In five games with D-League's Idaho Stampede, averaged 25.6 points (50 percent 3-PT) and 5.4 assists, scoring 20-plus points four times ... Exploded for game highs of 38 points (13-for-25 FG, 7-10 3-PT) and 12 assists at Reno in his first game with D-League's Idaho Stampede on Jan. 1 ... Underwent surgery to repair the fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot on July 13, 2009.

When Patty Mills went down with a foot injury prior to summer league, it should have served as a bad omen of things to come for the Trail Blazers. Mills missed the Blazers summer league but was still awarded the 15th and final roster spot in October, beating out Ime Udoka and Jarron Collins, despite still rehabbing the broken foot.

Mills, who had an outstanding Summer Olympics for Australia in 2008, will play for the Australian National Team this summer in the FIBA World Championships (Aug. 28 through Sept. 12 in Turkey).

"I'm grateful for what I've been through this year," Mills told Wendell Maxey of Beyond the Beat when reflecting on this season. "I've learned a lot and think I'm a better player from watching and learning. But to go through a season, it makes you a better person as well."

The Blazers currently hold the rights to Mills, a restricted free agent, and Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard hopes to have him back for this July's summer league:

"I would like to see him play in the summer league because we saw him in the minor league do some really good stuff," Pritchard said last week. "We know he can do some things; we've seen it in practice, but we want to give him the ball and let him go play."

I say we re-sign him or match any offer a team throws at him, barring its not an out of this world offer, as he is a restricted free agent. He is only 20/21, showed great quickness and a feathery jump shot. Realistically, Patty would have been a first round pick in this year's draft had he stayed for his Junior season at St. Mary's but a deep point guard crop in 09 pushed him down late into the 2nd round. Every team needs at least 3 point guards anyways, and he has shown enough potential to stick around. Also, Dre won't be around forever so we could potentially be looking at a Jerryd/Patty PG duo carrying the Blazers deep into this decade. Finally, who doesn't love the accent?

It really all depends on the draft. If there is another guard we like better, then by all means, don't let Patty stand in the way of picking someone with better talent and/or potential, but seeing as how the point guard crop is limited this year and there's no point in wasting our mid level money on a 3rd guard, might as well keep Patty around to see what we have. He could turn out to be a gem.

Dre getting up there in years, Patty has shown quickness and accuracy, and he fits the Blazer's requirements in terms of quality of character too.  I think with more experience he could be much akin to the likes of Dragic or Barbosa in effecting second-team speed.  Also, I'm not sure Bayless will be around for all of next season and to have someone that knows the system, even with limited minutes would be a huge asset.
I am a fan of Camby ripping boards like a carpenter. Crawesome, Batumshakalaka and Wesley "The Wesley" Matthews. Uh

While I think Bayless' playoff performance has earned him his spot on the team as the backup guard, it never hurts to have a Danny young type backup on your squad who comes in and just runs the show, because he knows the system and knows what the coach wants him to do. I'd like to see Patty be more of  a defensive animal next year. Use that quickness for both offense and defense.

Nothing personal, but imo, if the Blazers had any thoughts of him in the future, they wouldnt have signed Blake jr .
My level of excitement for rookie pgs to last here , is about as high as my excitement that Oden may actually play a full season after,   4 years of both sagas  ;)

That is a valid argument. Why did we bring in Diener...and no offense to TD, but he is baaaaad. I guess we'll know how much management likes Patty this offseason because he is now a restricted free agent.

sign Iggy for 8-9M, Batum at the two, and Wesley off the bench! Draft Steven Adams (who loves contact, grew up playing rug-bee). Sounds NICE!

  8. If you could be gm this offseason what would you do ?

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
