    Martell Webster
    Position: SF
    2009-10 salary: $4,344,000
Contract status: Signed through the 2012-13 season, although the final year is non-guaranteed. Webster is set to make $4,800,000 in 2010-11.

2009-10: Totaled averages of 9.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 24.5 minutes in 82 games (49 starts) ... Scored in double figures 37 times, including 10 games of 20-plus points ... Scored in double figures in nine straight games for the first time in his career (12/30-1/18) ... Netted 20-plus points in three straight games (1/2-1/5) for the first time in his career (23.3 ppg) ... Totaled career highs of 45 steals and 40 blocks ... His 42 three-pointers in January (15 games) were tied for the most by any NBA player for the month ... Attempted (332) and made (124) a career-high in three-point field goals ... His 60 turnovers were the lowest total since his rookie season (43) ... Joined Andre Miller as the only Blazer to appear in every game this season.

Heading into the season, Martell Webster was just happy to be healthy, back and able to contribute for the Blazers after sitting out all but five minutes of the 2008-09 season with a foot injury.

Prior to the season, Webster, who started at small forward in 70 games for the Blazers in 2007-08, not only supported last year's starter Nic Batum to remain as the starter but lobbied for it. After Batum suffered the first of what would be many Blazers' injuries this season, Webster was again the starter in Portland.

Webster started 49 games this season before surrendering his starting spot when Batum returned from his shoulder injury. Prior to Batum's return, Webster averaged 10.9 points per game. After Batum returned, in a backup role with fewer minutes, Webster averaged 6.4 points per contest.

In his fifth season with the Blazers, Webster had his second-most productive campaign. His numbers were just shy of career highs of 10.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 28.4 minutes per game in 2007-08.

Webster also got his first taste of playoff basketball. In six playoff games he averaged 9.8 points (on 42 percent shooting), 4.3 rebounds in 25.5 minutes per game. He struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 29 percent (5-for-17).

Webster applied his own personal motto when summing up the Blazers' 2009-10 season: "Be happy but not satisfied."

Marty's got to stay in my opinion. He knows his role and is willing to come off the bench. Instead of finding his niche as a 3 pt shooter, he's really turned into a great perimeter defender and one of the best shot blockers on the team. Not to mention his 3 years remaining on his contract won't be very attractive to other teams not wanting to take on salary. Anyone who plays good, tough, constantly suffocating defense will always have a spot on my roster.

He should stay due to his talent but also because he has a low value around the league. A mentioned, his contract is a nightmare to other GM's. I'd also keep him because he is still only 23 years old and I still think he can turn himself into a serviceable shooter, but everyone needs defense off of the bench, which he provides.

I would say keep Marty Party. He definitely needs to work on his consistency but he brought energy, big shots and defense when our bench was lacking both in the regular season and playoffs. I also agree that if we traded him....I don't think many teams would bite due to his contract so keep the Marty Party going I say!

Absolutely stay. I think he was starting to come into his own two years ago and then he was injured all last season. When you are away from it that long and come back to Nic competing for your spot, it is going to be tough. It looks like he is starting to accept his role and could be a huge 6th man off the bench. He's attacking the basket, going after rebounds, and playing good defense. I like what I am seeing from him. I hope his shot comes back this summer so he can help spread the floor in that second unit. Martel needs to stay. Is he living up to being drafted #6, no, but that is history now and we can only look at where he was last year in comparrison to what he gives us next year. Keep Martel.

Easy. He stays. His energy is invaluable to our team. Martell brings EVERYTHING he's got whenever he gets minutes. We need these kinds of players on our team. He's definitely a small keystone to our bench and our team.

Anyone else like Martell better at the 2 then the 3? His height seems to match up better with the smaller 2 guards than the LeBron's of the world.

I don't compare any Blazer to Lebron.  He is a freak of nature, too bad his sportmanship sucks with all the kids who look up to him.

I think Martell at the 2 or 3 depends on this summer, and if he can knock down a shot consistantly coming off the bench.
Imo, until we know if Rudy is coming back or not, it's hard to say who to bring in, who to play at the back up 2,  and what to do with Martell.
My safe bet again, bring Blake back  !  His outside shooting and defense COULD HAVE made a difference againt Phoenix. He always gives 100%, unlike what we saw from the unhappy Blazer, and I couldn't help but think of Blake last night looking at Nashs' eye, I've seen Blake take stiches for the team......

I don't want Blake back. The whole Roy/Blake, Blake/Miller saga was too much. Honestly, I don't think its very fair to do that to Andre, because then he's looking over his shoulder more often and could play more tentatively. Blake had a career year in 08-09 and we saw him dive off pretty significantly shooting wise in 09-10.
He shot 42.7% from 3 in 09 which went down to 37.7% this year. His free throw shooting dropped from 84% to 75%. Finally his points fell from 11 to 7.6.  Stats
We only have a minimal 6 million to spend this summer and Bayless proved in the playoffs backup PG should be not addressed with the MLE.  I think there are better ways to spend the money and bringing Blake back for a third time not only stunts Andre's performance but Bayles' as well.

Was it really all that much drama?  Or did the media make it out to be so  ?  I personally never heard anyone involved making a big deal out of it. Blazer fans get brainwashed by the bull the media feeds them....
Imo, Blake off the bench makes the most sense until we know what is up with Rudy. That may not be resolved by October.
Dre isnt as old as I thought he was, but still isnt getting younger. They are grown men, and can make it work if they want to win.
The big question is Rudy. And what is going to change next season? Who really knows?  But until that is figured out, its hard to make a decision on playing Bayless at the 1 or 2, or Martell at the 2 or 3.
Blake can play  1 or 2,  and already knows Nates system, which means no pg/coach head butting for the first half of the season if they bring in another guard.....

If Webster can work on his off the dribble shot, he'll be a force for our bench, kind of like Outlaw and how his patented move is now the two dribble pull up. I know he may not be able to jump as high as Outlaw, but Marty needs a simple dribble drive move to get him going.
