The problem is NO doesn't want to take in a long-term contract.

Why are we looking at second tier and 3rd tier free agents? Yuck to all of them, Mike Miller would be a backup to sign at the mid-level exception if nothing else pans out. We have some great draft picks, and 2 veteran players that were key to our small success in the postseason last year. I believe that we need to be talking about upgrading this roster, why are we not talking about JJ Redick? He would be an amazing pickup for our bench and would fit perfect into Nate's halfcourt set. But lets upgrade one thing that we did not address last offseason a point guard. Andre Miller is a beast!! He can light it up! When Roy is hurt or playing horrible. We need someone who wants to be here, and is a proven success in a similar offense. I.E. Tony Parker, he has an expiring contract next year and wants out of San Antonio, rumors show he would love to play in Portland along side fellow countryman Nicholas Batum. His leadership and championship pedigree would be just the right ingredient we need to add to our recipe to a championship. While the eastern conference is waiting on LeBron we should be calling the Spurs and inquiring about this, Sending Miller and Patty Mills  to them would surely upgrade our roster and put us in better position to tutor Bayless, and our rookies to become everything we expect them to be. An addition of Parker, and Redick would give us the perimeter shooting we have been seeking. With the loss of Martell and some believe Rudy will return to Spain with his struggles last year, we need to bring in a minimum of 2 shooters to our lineup. We also should look at Jermaine O'Neil as a backup to LA, his injuries in past years has limited his jumping ability, but his defense and rebounding ability are something special. JO is only 31 people, we had this guy before and knew his potential, and stuck with Sheed, ugh, lets bring in veteran leadership, this guy has been an All-Star, and would add a lil muscle to a frontline in our second unit, if JO would be willing to come off the bench. Regardless of who we pickup in free agency, Nate's contract needs to be addressed and we need a GM to replace our beloved KP, can anyone say Kiki?

We are looking at 2nd tier free agents because we have no cap space and JJ Reddick probably isn't a viable option as the Magic have already stated they will match any mid-level exception offer.

Well, we can cross Ray Allen off the list...Mike Miller as well if the Heat are able to find some way to offer him and LeBron contracts. Its looking more and more like we are targeting players who are young but still have a lot of room to grow talent wise (Morrow,Matthews, etc)

This is exactly why it is a good thing KP is gone. KP doesn't make trades and that is what Portland needs right now. Bring on Pfund! I'm excited. Everything I've heard so far about this guy makes me really excited to have him as a potential GM. I'm backing Pfund.

I like the hole Oden Camby twin tours thing, but Przbilly as your lone back up center could be trouble. Greg Oden has to prove to the Blazer fans that he can stay healthy for a hole NBA season.

Are we gonna get anybody in this free agency period???  Or are we just gonna sit back and let everybody get taken?  Insight please.

Chad Buchanan said yesterday that the team is taking a slower approach. They don't want to overspend on some mid-level players like other teams are. The longer you wait to sign somebody, generally, the amount of money you have to pay them goes down as well.

Ok, I understand that D.  Thanks.  But who is still out there for the taking that we would want other than CP3?  Im not up on the remaining free agent list....

i think we should just try to get players thru trade (cp3, wes matthews, chalmers?) and let the young guys play... there is not much out there and average players are getting big bucks. we should just save most of our money... make a move next yr.  i doubt we get cp3 but matthews is most likely, chalmers has been rumored as well... we shall see soon enough.

Almost everyone on the original list is gone except for Ime and Amundson, and I don't see Ime being added to the team. So, if the Jazz do match Matthews, who do we turn to? My guess is maybe Farmar or Lowry since those tow have been reportedly linked to Portland and are still on the market.

if we don't get mathews they need to just hold on to pryzbillas expiring contract as a bargain chip until the trade deadline, with how crazy this offseason went, the trade deadline could be interesting, and who knows what's going to happen with injuries next season, last year 3 teams that I can think of (GS, Detroit, Portland) had serious injury problems throughout most of the season, and still others like milwuakie and houston to name a couple were hurt by injuries to some extent with Yao and Michael Redd. Which is why I like the Mathews sign even more, the one true downfall to Batum is he has had some injuries, so a little bit of depth at the lockdown defender position would be great. And in a perfect world we could see Lamarcus, Oden, Roy, Mathews, Roy, and Batum on the floor at one time....defense wins championships.

Yeah I really like matthews. He can play the 3 position for some amount of time. Especially if Oden stays healthy, rebounding is not an issue. I'm really hoping the deals go through, it only means a bigger move is in the works if he were to get signed.

or maybe that a big move could be available if one comes our way we like. NO wants CP3 to be a hornet at the start of the season, but with the players-collusion-Coup in Miami, more stars could start demanding trades or otherwise rock the boat in their own hometowns looking for a makeshift mecha to land in for a shot at a title...we've already had the pieces people want to pry away for big trades during the last couple seasons after teams experience injuries or just plain realize they are a piece away from being a contender, this year maybe we'll have enough depth in those wanted positions where we can pull the trigger on a superstar. This is the best plan for a small market team it seems, but we can acquire them through trade or draft.

If we can pick up Luke Ridnour he would do well coming off the bench with the 2 unit, hear would be my starting five, I think that might work.

    1 Roy
    2 babbit
    3 batum
    4 Markes Cambie
    5 Oden

    (The Bench)
    Ridnour
    Bayless
    Jole
    Jeff
    Cuttingham
    Jauwan Howerd

Babbitt would not make that line up.  He may shoot well but he is a defensive liability.  We would have to start Dante.

    starting 5 now as we speak should be (PG)andre miller-(SG)brandon roy-(SF)nicholas batum/wes matthews-(PF)lamarcus aldridge-(C)marcus camby.

bench would be our young guys.. (PG)bayless(if not traded by then)or patty mills-(SG)armon johnson-(SF)elliot williams-(PF)luke babbit-(C)greg oden

with guys like pendragaph & cunningham filling in when needed...

Juwan Howard is most likely gone since he is a free agent and is interested in more playing time. And we'll see how long Joel Prizbilla sticks round here since he has a large expiring contract. RUDY FERNANDEZ GONE!( we should sell him back to spain lol)

But i'd love to see what else we do soon, i do not think we are done adding pieces... but if the season was to start today i'd feel comfortable with what we have for the most part... i still think we need a upgrade at the point guard position(maybe chris paul?) i'd settle for luke ridnour be adding to this team.... even Amare Stodamire had good things to say about him " he is 1 of the smartest pg's' that runs the pick in roll very very well "

Looks like the Blazers already have a Plan B in place if the Jazz match. I wonder who it could be? Roger Mason and Kyle Lowry have been linked to us in the media.

    From The Columbian-

The Blazers are operating under the assumption that Matthews will be retained by Utah. However, Portland has a secondary plan in place if that happens, and the Blazers are ready to immediately put it into action.
