    Updated Free Agent List

The Trail Blazers will have about $6 million this summer to try and add another piece to the puzzle. Out of everyone realistically attainable with the MLE, here's my list:

    Ray Allen

Pros- Great outside shooter (.396 career 3 pt shooter), excellent at the foul line (.894 at the ft line career), quick release, scores in bunches

Cons- Would he demand more than $6 million? Ready to accept backup role? Age (35 this summer), Defensive liability

    Anthony Morrow

Pros- Deadly 3 point shooter (.456 this season), reliable at the foul line (.886 in 09-10), Young (turns 25 in September), Doesn't need ball in his hands to score

Cons- Restricted free agent, Is he a system player?, Needs to make more of a commitment to defense if moved out of Golden State

    Travis Outlaw

Pros- Knows the system, Understands & excels in his role, Great fit chemistry wise, Instant offense, Mr. 4th Quarter, Versatile (can playboth SF/PF), Might come at a discount after injury plagued year

Cons- Questionable shot selection, Poor rebounder for size (3.4 career average), Can he guard the bigger power forwards and quicker small forwards?  Does he even want to return?

    Louis Amundson

Pros- Excellent defender, Brings a blue-collar toughness, Athletic, High-energy player, Crowd favorite, Efficient rebounder (4.4 average in 14.8 minutes in 2010)

Cons- Will he leave Phoenix?, Limited to only garbage baskets offensively, Poor free throw shooter (.485 career)

    Ime Udoka

Pros- May sign for the minimum, Knows team/city well, Local player, Reliable 3 point shooter (career .361 from downtown), Solid defensively, Understands role (11th/12th man), Veteran leadership

Cons- Age (33 in summer),  Declining skills (.268 from 3, .378 from field),

    Roger Mason

Pros- Good long-range shooter (.381 career), Great free throw shooter (.871 career average), Could come cheap (buy-low sell-high type of player after down season), Solid ball-handling skills, Playoff experience

Cons- Age (30 in Summer), Was it just a bad season or a sign of his play for the future?, Streaky Shooter, Needs too much playing time to heat up? (11.8 ppg in 30.4 mpg in 09 compared to 6.3 ppg in only 19.2 mpg in '10)

    Kyle Korver

Pros- Elite shooter (.536 from 3, .493 fg), Lightning quick release, Heats up quick (7.2 ppg in only 18.3 ppg), Knows role a 6th man, Can shoot off the dribble or by spotting up, In prime of career

Cons- Defense, Will he be out of our price range?, Would he leave Utah?, Is he in his prime or has he peaked? (Can he shoot .536 again?)

    Mike Miller

Pros- Lethal 3 point shooter (.380 in 09-10), Score in multiple ways (.501 from field, career 13.7 ppg), Wants to win, Deceptive rebounding skills (6.2 rpg in '10)

Cons- Accept less role? (32.4 career mpg), Shaky defender, Lack of playoff experience, Used to losing? (Not in playoffs since 05-06)

    Ronnie Brewer

Pros- Elite Defender (career 1.5 spg), Long wingpan (6'11.25"), Solid shooter (career .521), Hard nosed player, Potential for a suffocating perimeter defense team with Batum and Bayless, Could come cheap due to injury

Cons- Coming off of major injury (ACL), Below average rebounder for his size (2.9 career average), Poor 3 point shooter (.234),  Abnormal shooting form (Childhood water slide accident left him with a small bone protruding from his triceps area), Used to starter's minutes (26.2 career mpg)

That's my list, who do you think is either the best fit or most attainable and who's your target?

As much as I would love to see Travis back in a Blazer uniform, even I have to admit Dante has a higher ceiling, and needs minutes.  Since I have harped on defense so much since the end of the season, I can't really justify bringing Travis back, as painful as it is :(

I'd lovvvve to get Outlaw back! When we made the trade w/ Outlaw & Blake..  i would have liked to hurt them later w/ that trade by getting either Outlaw/Blake back. I was thinking trade but i don't know how that would work out, then i realize, heyy Outlaw is a free-agent. I've commented on the oregon live "You be the GM" recent posts and they're very interesting w/ the comments on there. My philosophy if you will was the problem at 2. Bayless emphasizes alot of his game at 2. Let me go back a little bit and state that when we had Outlaw we didn't have much of a problem of who would be the secondary scorers behind Roy. You're main threats were Outlaw & Webster.. Fernandez was the sixth man at the time and you're point guard position wasn't really much of a problem, until Webster went out and then you're utility in scoring threats went down, they also weren't quite sure how Batum & Bayless were going to fit in because they were young guys. Bayless was 90% right hand playing the 2 and batum was mainly a defender. Now, we needed a person who could shoulder the load at point when Fernandez or Outlaw would be in a slump or roy was out for the duration of 6 minutes a game. You have that now but do you have an effiecent back up at point. This is where the 2 position comes into play. Where is Portland going to go w/ Webster & Bayless and if they can't be complete at their positions (bayless being a solid backup point and Webster being that useless shooting forward) where does Portland go to get that secondary shooter they had w/ Outlaw, this includes Fernandez. Here's what i think. At the moment re-sign him and package a deal w/ both of you're draft picks and either Fernandez/Bayless/Webster throw maybe Travis Diener in there and get a solid back-up point guard for the moment, package that w/ a early 1st round pick and a future point guard to go in w/ Miller. Sound confusing but it's my best bet.

Out of that list, I'd love to get Ime Udoka to replace Diener and would go HARD after Morrow and Korver. I doubt Korver leaves Utah though but Golden State is so dysfunctional, they wouldn't even notice if we tried to sign Morrow away. I like Morrow a lot due to his youth.

I'm not completely sold on any of them. I would love Ray Allen, but he wouldn't want to come in off the bench behind Roy. He would be great in the role that Rudy has been playing though and he has knows the game of basketball. His defensive liability would be masked by coming off the bench. Ray Allen may not be a superstar starter, but he's a great option coming in the second unit. He would play really well off of Bayless, Roy, and Miller. If Martel and him stay on opposite sides of the arc it would really spread the D. He also really liked Nate. He wanted out of Seattle because Nate left and he wanted a ring. Now he could get both possibly. Should Portland try to go after "Jesus" (please noone take that literallly, that was Ray Allen's character's name in the movie He Got Game). Sorry, I could totally see that joke blowing up in my face so I had to add the disclaimer. P.S. Clyde, is that you are a fan of Tuna Fish, or Smelling Tuna Fish? It reads both ways.

i watched game 3 of the lakers/jazz game, and kyle korver.... wow. he shot 9-10 and 5-5 from three in just under 24 minutes. coach nate said we need a shooter, and dude is a shooter. THE quickest release on anyone i've seen. we should try and get him if he actually leaves utah. and if asst coach monty williams doesn't leave  us, he could work on korver's D. we've seen what monty has done with batum, so he could do it.
so that's all IMO of course. :)

yeah...Allen isn't coming here to take a lesser role behind Roy...however it would be intriguing seeing a 4th quarter line-up of Miller, Allen, Roy, Aldridge and Oden.

But realistically, I'm going with Mike Miller. He can create his own shot, he can rebound and he's put in a situation he's never been in...or rarely. Winning. He'll be happy to go to any winning team at this point in his career.
Second unit would be solid barring Bayless improves on PG skills some more...and yes he did improve comparing to his first year. It's like night and day.

Kyle Korver may be out of our price range after Game 3's performance. Dude is just locked in right now and would be scary to see him in our offense with Roy, Greg, and LA. Who are you going to double? It would be a catch-22 all game long for the opposition!

Amundson would be a great addition. He's been everywhere these playoffs and really impressed me. The more hustle a team has the better. Not sure he leaves Phoenix to come here. I remember an article about Channing talking the city of Portland up and mentioned how good of a cycling community we have, which Lou loves to do, but then didn't like the fact it rained here so much.

Nope, just the food. I'm a fan of tuna fish sandwiches.

Also, Ray would be a nice addition, but would he be willing to come off of the bench, let alone leave Boston?
I also read somewhere that Korver is leaning heavily towards re-signing with the Jazz which is no bueno for the Blazers. If he can't sign with us, please get him out of our division!

Scrap the Ray Ray idea. He's not coming off the bench anytime soon after hi 25 points on 6-9 from 3 tonight in Game 5 against the Cavs. He'll definitely go for more than 5.8 million as well, but he's proving to a lot of people that he's more than capable of being a starter in the league even given his age.

    *BUMP*

Free agency starts at 9:00 PM PST time for the Trail Blazers and According to Mike Born, they'll have players and agents on the phone as soon as the clock strikes 9!

blazerbanter: Free agency: #Blazers' Born: "At 9:01 p.m., we're calling. We're calling agents and reaching out to players."
We can add another player to the list of possible targets:

    Ronnie Brewer
He was a restricted free agent, but the Grizzlies failed to make him a qualifying offer, making him an unrestrcited free agent (giving the Grizzlies no leverage in matching his contract offers).

     From 3 Shades Of Blue-

In a somewhat shocking development it now appears that Ronnie Brewer, the big trade deadline acquisition of the Grizzlies last season, will not be extended his qualifying offer. The price tag to acquire Brewer is a conditional #1 draft pick beginning next season. The Grizzlies would have to make the playoffs for that pick to be given to the Jazz but over the next few years that pick could go as low as 9th in the draft. This season the 9th pick in the draft was Gordon Heyward of Butler who went to the Jazz to complete a trade made earlier by the Jazz with the Knicks via Phoenix.
He would bring stellar defense and a decent offensive game to our bench unit, essentially replacing, Martell Webster and even maybe an upgrade. If you didn't know before, Ronnie Brewer's father, Ron Brewer, played for the Trail Blazers for 2.5 seasons starting in 1978, and he [Ronnie] was born in Portland Oregon!

I still really like Lou's game and with rumors of the Suns offering Frye 5yr/25 mill, they may want to save a little cash and let Amundson go. I think he'd be a great backup power forward. Brewer intrigues me, but I don't like the fact he's coming off of a torn acl..haven't we had enough leg injuries lately?

After signing Gay to a MAX deal, I just don't see the Grizzlies even making an effort at Brewer, esp since they just drafted Xavier Henry at #12 and OJ Mayo already entrenched at the 2. He could come at a value since he's coming off of an injury but like ClydeFrog said, do we really want to spend money on another player whose had major surgery in the past year? It just sounds like a recipe for disaster at this point.

Grizzlies are saying they want to still sign Brewer, but didn't extend the qualifying offer because they were focusing on getting Rudy Gay squared away, or something like that. Brewer is still a very real option for the Grizzlies, but he's obviously not their primary concern.

Sign JJ Redick.  We need a good back up pg and bayless doesn't distribute enough.  Put bayless as the backup to Roy at the 2.  He can play 7 or 8 minutes behind him and provide an immediate spark when he is in.  Get rid of Rudy, he's to inconsistent and doesn't want to play for us.  You could trade him and maybe a pick, player and/or a couple millon dollars for Shane Battier.  We'd have the best bench in the Nba with redick, bayless, battier, camby, pryzbilla. but right now with Bayless running point and inconsistant rudy at 2?  That's, honsetly, not a championship gaurd rotation comming of the bench.  And who's gonna run 3 for us?  Babbit?  Hell yeah he's gonna a good replacement for martell..... Yeah, right.

Seriously Torey? With a starting lineup like that I could play the 3 and we would have a chance at a championship...Have you even seen Babbitt play? Probably not. He's arguably the best shooter in the draft at 6'9. All he has to do is sit there in the corner. I can see him easily being better than a James Harden in his rookie year. And all this talk about having a championship caliber bench...if you have ever watched a single playoff game you would know that the bench hardly does anything towards winning a championship. Sure it's a good thing to have during the regular season but once playoff season rolls around, starting lineups minutes go up dramatically.

No brainer.  Louis Amundson.  He would fill one of two of our remaining needs perfectly, giving the team much needed interior toughness and energy defensively, and rebound the ball.  I see him helping to keep GO out of foul trouble and complimenting LA's game nicely.  Knows his role and is happy playing it.  Would back-up LA in second unit.

Amundson would be kind of pointless because we already have a lot of 4's/5's, and he's not an offensive threat. JJ Redick or Kyle Korver would great options. If they get Wes Matthews, whom they apparently target, they could use the biannual exception on him. That would be pretty sick if they got Ray Allen somehow. Maybe Pryzbilla and a future pick for him in a trade?

Blake is looking at the Lakers or Magic right now, no mention of Portland

Amundson is looking like a real possibility with the signings of Frye and now Warrick, but I haven't heard Lou linked anywhere just yet.

JJ would be a good fit, but I think he needs more than the 12-15 minutes a night he'd get here behind BRoy.

Looking at how free agency has gone so far, we won't be able to sign anyone until all the bigger names have cleared. A lot of 3-4 tier players are getting overpayed, and we simply just can't afford it with just the MLE.

Morrow or Korver would be great fits in our system as back up 2's. Korver might be more willing to accept the back up role being a little later in his career than morrow. The 3pt shooting he brings is exactly what we need and he also has some playoff experience which i know Nate would love.

PS portland i beg of you PLEASE do not sign Jordan Farmar. Although his big ole ears would make for a nice umbrella for the people walking around him. If you are looking for a true backup PG get Ridnour. He has played for Nate before and he is a duck, enough said.

I wouldn't take any of these guys...

I don't think the the Blazers will be able to get much of a player via Free agency, role players mostly. They need to make a trade if they can. The Paul trade is very intriguing. But with Roy a guard that dominates the ball can they both coexist? Can Roy's game evolve? Ithink LaMarcus and hopefully Oden would benefit greatly from Paul's presence. If they made this deal they would need to also add a starting SF,aB/U Point.and another B/U front-line player. I would love to see David Lee here but really don't see it getting done.Of the guys you mentioned I like Mathews,Admunson and Udoka the best. But who will be the B/U Point guard? Not alot out there.

I like the idea of getting Anthony Morrow.  He can shoot the outside shot, does well at the free throw line, and is younger than most of the players on that list so we can have him longer than most of them.  We could lure him with the chance to make the playoffs as a bonus.

If, and only if, we were to trade Batum for CP3 the Blazers should welcome back Outlaw to give him the starting SF nod. It would definitely make Brandon happy and could electrify the offense by having him and CP3 run the fast break. He is also a really good weakside defender and shot blocker. He isn't the perimeter defender that Undoka is, but he would help hold down the paint with Oden and Camby forcing low percentage shots. Could you imagine having Camby spell Aldrige and a lineup with Oden, Camby, and Outlaw on defense? That would allow Roy and Paul to feel free to gamble on the steal. With that said, I like Batum and would rather make a trade for Parker, Nash, Harris, or another next tier starting PG in order to keep Batum as your starting SF. I think Batum is going to be that good in the near future.

I just don't feel that Harris is that great of a PG that will take us over the top. It's essentially like having two Jerryd Bayless'; the difference is Harris is at his ceiling and Bayless isn't even close.

Andre Miller, Joel Pryzbilla and LAMARCUS ALDRIDGE for Chris Paul! NOT BATUM!!! And then bring in Luis Scola somehow! That would be a great starting 5!!! CP3, BRoy,Batum, Luis Scola and Oden!!
I am a fan of comcast and the blazers making deals that keep screwing us over!! woot!

How bout LA, Andre, and Rudy for CP3?  We'd be able to keep Batum and wouldn't lose much depth.  We could easily split 10 minutes behind Roy with Johnson and Williams instead of trying to make Rudy happy!  Put Marcus as the starting 4, which I think is even better than LA because  he's more consistent/doesn't take as many shots/better rebounding/ and a better defender.  Then you could sign somebody like Scola or Amundson to back him up!

    Starting 5:
    Paul
    Roy
    Batum
    Camby
    Oden

    Bench:
    Bayless
    Johnson-Williams
    Babbit
    Scola/Amundson-Cunningham
    Przybilla

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...
