Draft Workouts For Portland Already Getting Started

     Illinois juniors Mike Davis and Demetri McCamey will work out for the Portland Trail Blazers on May 7, according to Illinois assistant coach Jerrance Howard.

    Davis and McCamey have until May 8 to withdraw from the draft to keep their college eligibility.

    McCamey, a 6-foot-3 point guard, averaged 15.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.5 steals this past season. Davis, a 6-9 forward, averaged 10.7 points and 9.2 rebounds.

    ESPN's NBA draft analysts have predicted that both could go as high as the second round but also go undrafted.

    Personally, Draft Day is one of the greatest days of the year for me, especially when we have a GM like KP who is uber-active on not only the days leading up to the draft but on draft day as well.  With the additions of Camby and Miller making us more of a veteran team, I'd like to see us grab a young prospect in the draft who we can groom for a couple of years and be ready to step in once its time for Camby and Miller's careers to come to an end.

    As to these two Illinois players, I've only seen McMamey play and I must say, I was impressed. He is a big lead guard, much the same as former Illini Deron Williams. I'd have no problem using our 2nd round pick on McCamey.

    Before anyone thinks we won't be active or doesn't need any more youth, don't forget who our GM is :D "On how he rates this year's draft pool: "It's pretty strong.     I don't even pay attention to rookie pgs anymore. Nate will not play them unless he has no other option.

    KP is the man when it comes to doing his job.  I just hope all 12 arent pg's  :)

    Trail Blazers Begin Draft Workouts

     "The draft in general is quite strong, to be honest with you," said Chad Buchanan, the Blazers' director of college scouting. "I think there are a couple stars at the top and a lot of very good potential starters and rotation guys down to the early second round. It's a deep draft."

    Buchanan said the Blazers probably won't host another workout until the beginning of June, but they will have ample opportunities to investigate prospects in the meantime

    Here were the prospects that worked out Friday:
     Note: The underclassmen who worked out Friday were E'Twaun Moore of Purdue, Lavoy Allen of Temple, Talor Battle of Penn State, Malcolm Delaney of Virginia Tech, Eniel Polynice of Mississippi, Alex Tyus of Florida and Mike Davis of Illinois. Others working out were Dominic Waters of Portland State, Devan Downey of South Carolina, NBDL player Jeremy Wise, Donald Sloan of Texas A&M and Connecticut's Gavin Edwards.

    Good to see PSU guard Dominic Waters get a look and E'Twaun Moore could be a good shooter at the next level, but I doubt any of these players get drafted. Never the less, its great to see draft workouts picking up!

    Dang, Moore is going back to school. Probably the best decision for him though.
