We are down 11 after 3, but Roy can catch fire anytime. Anyone else have hope we can win?

Turnovers killed us this game. And lacking B-Roy's production was just too much....

We just played like we didn't need this game.  I seriously don't know what is going on here.

Such a lackluster effort tonight, I just don't know what happend.  Can the altitude really affect them that much?

Figured this one was a loss, but felt good going into the half down one. Chances of winning are pretty slim when Roy and Aldridge both have off nights.

BTW, welcome to the boards Madia!
Agree on all accounts...it was a carbon copy of the earlier game in Denver. I just find it odd that 33 year old Andre can bring it but Roy looked like he was sleep walking for most of the game again, what gives? Very alarming loss..

I know, I knew it was a long shot to win, but did I think we would completely lose it in the second half?  Nope!

I don't know why, but this loss really hurts, crushing in fact. If we can't beat Denver without Martin and their head coach and we had won 9 of 10 and they had lost 5 of 6, and the game wasn't even close..makes me wonder if I will ever see them win in that cursed arena again?
Roy is my boy, but we need him to not just put up crazy stats against the sub .500 teams.

It is deflating.  If we can't beat Denver now, what chance do we have against them, or Utah, in the playoffs?  We need to have our A game against ALL TEAMS, not just the sucky ones.

Yeah, this one hurts since we could've moved up... but Roy having an off night, Batum having a poor shooting night... who had a GOOD night? I guess I liked some of the hustle in the first half and getting 'Melo out of the game.

I think the team needs a legit 2nd star to go along side Roy. Denver threw the kitchen sink at Roy and begged anyone else to beat them single handily. Although Roy saw the zone-double, he still needs to be more aggressive and force the issue sometimes. In the playoffs, the team will only go as far as Brandon takes them.

Camby and Miller showed up ready for action tonight and played well tonight. Dre missed some FT's he normally wouldn't but he outplayed Billups. Batum looked like a lost child out there. He had two really casual passes that got picked off easily and he did things he normally would not do, such as stand there and pose (after a missed shot no less) allowing the Nuggz to leak out for a dunk. I guess its easy to forget he's only 21 but Monty is going to make him pay for that little stunt, no doubt.

Positive: There was a Marty Party tonight, 17 pts, 6 - 9 from the field. He seems to be warming back up....hopefully. I agree about the 2nd star comment Dustin. LaMarcus is great but in order to be our #2 he needs to show up more and especially so when BRoy is off. 16 & 14 from LMA and Roy is unacceptable unless Dre has a 50 pt night.

Yup, outside of the two vets, it was nice to see Webster heat up. We need either he or Rudy to shoot the lights off the bench and there's no better time to heat up than April.
Love Aldridge and his physical tools but I think he plays more like a 3rd option than another star to play off Brandon. I really hope Oden comes back full force next year, because he could be that All-Star and allow LA to just be the 3rd fiddle, which I think he i most comfortable with.

An alarming trend? Brandon has looked awful in our last 3 losses and not overly dominant against the other .500 teams we beat (OKC,DAL)
Brandon needs to quit back peddling when they send two players, rather quickly swing the ball and cut to the hoop. If two are on Roy, someone must be open.

Also, for the love of God can Aldridge please quit taking such high degree of difficulty shots? 15 ft. turn arounds over the out-stretched hands of Andersen and Nene don't have the best of chances of going in. Priority #1 this season for him must be ball handling. He needs to turn, face up his defender, and put the ball on the floor, ala Bosh and Amare.

Poor perfomance for hole team only Miller and Camby played well but it is not enough, Young players should improve play against stronger opponent. ClydeFrog You are wright ! Aldrigde should make easy shoots near the basket using his strength and height. We won over Kings, Knikcs ... but WE Have to start winnig with Denver, Utah ... when We want to do something during playoffs. GO BLAZERS !!!!!

The Blazers beat themselves with turnovers and missed  free throws.   Loved Nate's speech at halftime.  Nate should be COY.

Does Nene now earn a roster spot on the current Trail Blazers killer squad? He sure seems to always make huge buckets or grab the loose ball rebounds...oh if we only had Mr. Oden to bang with him.

Poor performance overall, they beat some really good teams on the road before this game something about Denver...I did like Nate's speech at halftime, not sure if that comment was directed at any one player but Roy needed to step up in the second half and be more agressive. The zone double worked pretty good for Denver and outside of Miller and Camby, if Roy isnt having a good game, no one else will. Oh, and those missed free throws hurt Miller...

     Post-Game Thoughts

The curse of the Mile High City continues to loom large over the Trail Blazers as they couldn't even keep it a respectable score, losing 109-92, despite Denver playing without starting forward Kenyon Martin, not having their leader Coach Karl on the sidelines, and even losing Chris Andersen to an ankle injury in the 2nd half. While Denver looked like a starving dog that hadn't ate in three days, Portland nonchalantly went about this contest like a stroll in the park, shown by 11 backbreaking turnovers which seemingly lead to a fast break dunk or an And-1. The passing was sloppy, there was no fire in the eyes of our players, and no one outside of Miller even attempted to attack the hoop. It was a near carbon copy of the March 7th game in the Pepsi Center and was a reality check for Trail Blazer fans worldwide.

"We didn't have that sense of urgency," Roy said. "You could tell our energy was a little zapped."

Hopefully we do not see Denver in the playoffs, because whatever they are doing on defense, it certainly flusters Brandon Roy. Again, he had a terrible night, shooting 3-13 and only his 7-7 night at the foul line made his 13 points look sub-par at best. I give Denver a ton of credit for bracketing Roy at all times, but some of the blame needs to fall on #7's shoulders. In our last three road tests against elite foes (3-7-10 @ DEN, 3-21-10 @ PHX, 4-1-10 @ DEN), Brandon has been invisible, averaging 16.3 points on 14-52 (26.9%) shooting from the floor, compared to his normal 21.9 points on 47.3% shooting. This team just is not talented enough to beat the upper echelon teams, on the road no less, when Brandon gets passive out of the defense. Instead of backpedaling, I'd like to see him pass the ball quickly and make a cut to the hoop. If there are two on Brandon, someone else has to be open; swing the ball! While I don't think Roy should be the scapegoat for the defeat as it was a team loss, his teammates need to give the opponent a reason to think twice about doubling.

"Some of it's them and some of it's I'm just missing shots," Roy said. "I'm getting some looks, they're just rimming out."

If there was one positive which came out of last night's debacle, it had to be the re-emergence of Martell Webster. Webster's 17 points were only second on the team to Dre's 24 and he did so on 6-9 shooting, including 2-3 from downtown. The injuries look like they have taken a toll on Rudy, so he may not be the same player we're used to seeing the rest of the year. If Marty can fill the scoring void off the bench which Rudy was used to do so well, this loss could be a blessing in disguise if it means the Marty Party has returned. It wasn't only an offensive show Webster provided last night, rather it was the defense on Anthony which should raise the eyebrows. Getting most of the playing time at small forward last night, Marty was able to use his strength to disrupt Melo and he, along with Batum, forced him into 9 turnovers, 10-21 field goal shooting, and only five trips to the line.

You know that fan swagger I had going into last night's game? Well, it's completely gone. It was really a step back to reality after seeing one of the most struggling teams in the NBA, not even play that well, yet still able to control the game the entire way through. Portland said all the right words after clinching a playoff spot, "Our job isn't done...No time to celebrate yet..", but their actions spoke louder than words. There was no focus and thee Batum plays exuded this. He had two lazy, one-handed passes, one an entry pass in the post to LA, the other out top trying to get it to the point guard, and both were picked with ease, ending in points for Denver. The other happened in the 3rd quarter. He was open for a three and for some reason he decided to stand there and pose with his follow through held up high. While the shot ultimately missed, Anthony high-tailed it down court and received a bullet pass for the wide open slam. Coach Nate tried to get through to his troops at halftime, but I think mentally they were using playing last night as a crutch for not going all out. Hopefully this game serves as a lesson so close to the playoffs, letting them know they aren't as good as they thought they were and they need to show up every night the rest of the way. Teams aren't just going to give Portland W's, we will have to take it from them!
