    Joel Przybilla Injury Update

Seriously, if this is not the season from hell, tell me what other season in recent history has throw us so many punches. After the Roy hamstring injury, I have become almost numb to these injuries, but man this one stings because it directly affects our future.

Joel has a player option this summer which allows him to opt out of his final deal, but he will almost 100% opt in because there is no market value for an injured center right now. He is probably in the prime of his career and I'm not sure how much further this sets him back. He most certainly will miss a chunk of the 10-11 season.

Thank goodness we traded for Camby so we have the inside track on re-signing him, but that really only helps us next year. Marcus is 36 and we really have no young, healthy centers. We can all hope and pray G.O. stays healthy but who knows at thsi point? I think trading for a young center or drafting one now becomes priority #1 this summer for KP.

All that rehab time has now been reset and looking like at least another 7-8 months of recovery. I feel bad for Joel after playing in every game last year to this. Camby hasen't had the best track record for being healthy and the age thing is another big factor. No doubt Center is priority #1 for the draft this year, maybe we trade some guys and try to move up in the draft to get a decent shot at a true center/low post power forward. Something to keep a eye on during March Madness.

Oh NO!!!  That is not good, poor Joel!  Do you think that this could possibly keep him out for good?  I hate to be a pessimist here.  I agree, we definitely need a true center.  We are letting way too many points in the paint these days.  But hey, atleast Rudy has been hitting the 3's!!  :)

This couldn't have happened to a better person, really awful news. I'm really wondering if we will ever see the REAL Przybilla on the court again for the Blazers.  If we don't get a center this summer (I love Dalembert), then we should look at packaging Miller and Joel's expiring deals for an upgrade up front. I love both players, but we have been completely snake bit at center throughout our franchise history.
Hopefully my boy GO can stay healthy and we aren't even having this conversation next year!

I agree with you, ClydeFrog.  I don't read stuff on here much, so I wouldn't know how many people say we're cursed this year( i know this post mentions that), but to those who don't think we're cursed this year.... wow.  Injury after injury after injury after injury.  Like, honestly, it kinda makes you not blame it on Greg for being injured this year.  I mean, just LOOK!  If someone asks me about 09-10 Blazers, I would say that this year is NOT the year.  And I can see that we have a history of centers with injuries, but i hope that's not a curse for the blazers, and just a coincidence.
I REALLY don't know what to say about this year.  I mean, i'm sorry, but what has camby done for us?  tell me, would we make that camby trade if oden and przybilla wasn't out?  NO!  we traded him cuz we wanted to go the playoffs this year! I swear we did.  Also to fill up the paint defensively, but i'm tellin you guys, this trade was an attempt to get to the playoffs, which i find pointless.
To wrap up my ranting, ill just try to say something positive.  Maybe at least now, aldridge can learn how to be more aggressive in the paint offensively AND defensively.  I say these injuries this year was to help other players learn to play strong, so that once we have all teh players back healthy, portland would be dominating.
-I can't watch all the games, so i wouldnt know how aldridge is doing.  i can only tell from stats, unfortunately.

KP went with the idea that we needed a true center to shore up the defense in the paint. While I can't argue that, we do need a true center, I can argue that trading the only true point guard we had, (Blake) has resulted in a team that struggles, and continues to struggle against the good teams. I understand you have to give up something to get something, but what we gave up is not resulting in the team winning against the power elite. If you have no one to run the team effectively, your like a ship with no rudder. Camby won't make that much of a difference even if he's healthy, which has  been a problem for him. Also, being focused has been a problem all year long! Just look at the crappy home record this year, and the Blazers have lost to sub 500 teams at home! At some point this must fall on coaching. I believe the Blazers have been past that point for some time now.

I have heard if Joel does not play in more than 41 games next season, his contract is covered by insurance. I believe the coverage is 80%, same as when we had LaFrentz. What does this mean? It could mean a couple of things. First, it saves the franchise money which is always nice when you have an owner so willing to shell out however much is needed to get the job done. Also, it could be that he is a trade-able asset at the deadline next year, similar to Raef LaFrentz, with financially stingy owners salivating at the thought of insurance covering him while they unload an unfriendly, but talented contract.  Finally, it could mean that Joel is going to be out for a really long time and his return to dominance as our enforcer could be in jeopardy.

Claver will make a great squad player when he develops his outside shot. His size is an asset because he can guard SF and stretch 4s. If he can be a better rebounder and add a post move to his game we could be looking at a possible answer to our f...

Oden was definitely the best pick coming out of high school and arguably ahead of Durant in the 2007 draft. But the draft is art not science and we really needed a dominant center at the time. If we can get Oden for a short term low-risk deal. Lik...
