Three losses---two of them on the basketball court---clouded an otherwise outstanding season for the Trail Blazers who recorded 59 victories to match their second-best best finish in franchise history. The biggest setback came May 5, just two days before the team opened its semifinal playoff series against Utah, when popular assistant coach Bill Musselman lost a six-month battle
with a rare disease, primary systemic amyloidosis. Two weeks earlier, the Blazers lost their regular season finale at home to Denver, 96-95, and failed to post the franchise's second 60-win season.
