Post Game Notes And Quotes: Sweet Sweep

“It was a solid win for us. Obviously, Minnesota is playing with injuries and that certainly makes a difference, but from our standpoint, we came out with good energy, good execution, offensive rebounds were a help, transition was good. They create a lot of problems with their guards, their penetration and their passing. For the most part, I thought it was a solid win.”

    On Maynor:
“He and Damian have played well in practice the last few times we’ve had practice. Their line-up lent itself to playing those two guys together. We ran better when those two were in the game, the ball got up the court pretty quickly. I was pleased.”
“It’s reassuring – Eric has come in and he has played a lot of big games. He has a lot of confidence and poise out there. I still like having scorers out there with him, but I think he controls the game pretty well on offense. I’d like to see him be a little bit more aggressive with the ball, but he’s fulfilling his role very well.”

    On Leonard:
“I’d have to go through the games, but that may have been one of his better games if not his best game. He did it at both ends of the floor. He made his jump shots. Offensively, he was effective. Defensively, he was much more alert. When he rebounded, he outlet the ball well. IT seems like in the last week, he’s really focused in on some of the things he needs to do.”

On getting season sweep over Minnesota:
“I really wouldn’t put it in context about necessarily sweeping Minnesota. Like I said, they’ve had a lot of injuries and some hardship there, so at this stage it’s about getting another win regardless of what’s happened before.”

    On bench contributions:
“The bench did good. I don’t think anybody played over 40, 35 minutes. We definitely played together as a team. The bench came in and did their job and we got a team win tonight.”

    On Maynor’s 12 assists
“A pass-first point guard coming off the bench – it’s definitely a great addition for us. I think the sky is the limit when you have guys like that coming off the bench to help this team. He knows his role and we all know our role and when we play like that, we’re a much better team.”

On ‘not playing down to the competition’:
“That was a great emphasis, even at shoot around. We were talking to ourselves and we were like we can’t play to the level of competition of this team. We know they’re hurt and they’re kind of slim on players over there, so we just wanted to come in and play our game and not worry about what they have going on in their locker room, and we did that tonight.”

    On needing this win:
“The next two – this one and the one Monday before we go on the road, they would be huge for us. We struggled the last couple games, but we needed this one tonight.”

    On bench contributions:
“Eric, Meyers, Vic – all those guys that came in bring something.”

    On ovation for Brandon Roy:
“He deserves it. That’s normal for what he did for this team, for this city for the last seven years I think, that’s huge. That’s huge, even if you can never tell what’s going to happen with him in the future, but he’s still a big part of this franchise. He’s one of the best players of this franchise of all time, so he deserved that.”

    - Series history … With tonight’s win, Portland won all four meetings with the Timberwolves this season … It is the fifth time in the last six seasons that the Trail Blazers have swept the regular season series with Minnesota … Portland has now won 21 of the last 23 games against Minnesota.

    - Climbing the ladder … LaMarcus Aldridge (17 points) passed Sidney Wicks for ninth place all-time on Portland’s all-time scoring list (8,898) … Rasheed Wallace sits in eighth place with 9,119 points.

    - Career night … Eric Maynor finished tonight with seven points and a career-high 12 assists … Maynor’s 12 assists are tied for the second most in an NBA game this season for a reserve player (15, M. Ginobili).

    - Dishing dimes … Maynor’s 12 assists are tied for the most assists by a Trail Blazer this season (Lillard, Batum) … Maynor is the first Portland player to record 12 assists off the bench since Sergio Rodriguez (12, 4/15/09 vs. Denver).

    - Another double-double … JJ Hickson finished with 18 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, his 32nd double-double of the season … Hickson now has nine games this year of at least 15 points and 15 rebounds, tied for second in the NBA, behind only Dwight Howard (11).

    - Efficiency … Hickson shot 7-of-8 from the field, the 21st straight game that he has shot 50.0 percent or better from the floor … That is tied for the fifth-longest such streak in the NBA since the beginning of the 2007-08 season.

    - Off the bench … Meyers Leonard led all Trail Blazers bench players with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Victor Claver finished with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists … Tonight marked the first time this season that two Portland bench players scored in double figures in the same game.

    - Season high … The Trail Blazers grabbed a season-high 55 rebounds (54, 1/16 vs. Cleveland).

    - Season best … Portland led by 12 points after the first quarter (31-19), its largest lead after the first period this season (25-14, 12/20 vs. Denver).
