Postgame Notes And Quotes: Huge Victory On TNT

“Obviously, it was a good win. We did a lot of good things. Probably one of our better games this year as far as start to finish. We didn’t have a lot of lulls. As I emphasized with the team before the game, San Antonio is a team that you can’t let your guard down on offense or defense because the minute you let up, they take advantage of it. I thought for the most part, we did a really good job of staying the course and staying in tune on every possession.”

    On Lillard’s game:
“Obviously, it was terrific. The two fouls early got him out of it a little bit, but he played the whole second quarter and like you’ve seen most of this year, he was pretty much unfazed by the foul trouble and was able to play the rest of the game. I thought he did a nice job of changing up jump shots and drives. He was kind of taking what the game gave him. With 29, 7 and 6, it was a really good all around game.”

Have you had a better win this year?
“Well, I don’t know. Beating the Lakers opening night was really nice. I don’t think that anybody saw that one coming. So that was good. The overtime wins, coming back from 18 down in Charlotte, that was a pretty impressive win. But obviously beating a team like San Antonio, being the best team in the west and maybe the best team in the league, it was probably the best because we played an entire game. We didn’t have to come back. We were steady and played well throughout.”

On contributions of Hickson, particularly in fourth quarter:
“JJ may have won us the game. The rebound he got with about a minute and a half, that extra possession was big. Obviously, the running hook in the lane – I hadn’t seen that one yet – that was a big play. The extra possessions that he got us in the fourth quarter really made the difference. He tipped one back … It was a team effort obviously. When you win games like this, you look at a lot of people. A lot of people did a lot of good things. I thought Sasha’s defense was good, Nic changing up our defense. I thought everybody had a contribution.”

    On Lillard’s performance:
“It was huge. He did a great job, scoring, rebounding, passing. I’m not really surprised right now about Damian. I was surprised a couple weeks ago, I’m not now.”

Was this best win of the year?
“Maybe, maybe because we played a good game on defense, we played a good game on offense, we played together, we didn’t turn the ball over too much, we tried to control the rebounds. Tonight was maybe our best game. We played the Spurs who are one of the best teams in the league right now, so maybe our best game.”

On building on wins over Raptors and Spurs:
“Now we have to finish this week. We have a game Sunday against New Orleans so we can finish this week with three in a row. We have a huge stretch at home, three more games at home before we go on the road, so if we can get these three and get back to .500, it can be good.”

Were you motivated playing against Parker?
“I knew it was going to be a tough cover for me, just like every other night. I just wanted to attack the game – offensively, defensively, just try to make it as tough as possible for him to get his shot off and make those floaters a little tougher for him.”

On playing Spurs on national TV:
“I didn’t really think about it that way. I just wanted to come out and try to help the team win the game and focus on what I needed to do to make that happen. It just happened to paly out the way it did. I think our whole team knew that we needed this win and we went out and got it done.”

Was this best game of your career?
“I think I’ve had a few games better even though this is the most points I’ve scored. I think this was the best I’ve done in a game we really needed. That says a lot about our team to win against the Spurs, but I’ve played better games.”

    On Lillard’s game
“He played great. An overall game – got people involved, took shots, took big shots, hit big shots, and got guys involved.”
