3 new assistants

Apart from where they have worked in the past, does anyone know any info on our new assistant coaches? Have any of our new assistants done any good coaching the pro game? I have not heard anything at all, good or bad. Being scouts to me means they can judge players but it does not mean they can coach them. What happened to coach Canales, is he going to be the #4 assistant? What are your thoughts on this group of guys coaching our team? I am not happy with where they came from, Raptors, Wizards, and old Clippers, to me this is not very promising. All these teams were big time losers with these guys on the staff. Looks like we should have picked a coach when there were still real assistants available. Why are so many of the assistants in the NBA former video techs or never touched a ball glorified interns? I think teams are just attempting to save a buck and letting their players basically coach themselves. Most teams don't call plays like they used to for example in Miami their philosophy is.... Dwayne or LeBron bring the ball up, look for your shot or drive to the hole if it is not there look for someone behind the 3 point line, oh yeah, try to get fouled........

Sorry everyone I'm am just pissed that we were told this is not going to be a rebuilding time but a reload on the fly.

To me this coaching choice and his assistant choices are not a reloading, but a license to place blame after a sub-par season comes to fruition!

None of them including Stotts have a past that shows any hint of high quality coaching.

I think there are too many entities on our team that have too much to prove for the outcome to be the quality that we are hoping for.

Once again what are your thoughts?

  1. I like the coaching staff. I like the team and I really like the GM. Of all the words the media has used to describe the transition from last season I'd call it a rebound! Kaleb is the only coach on the staff who never played pro basketball. Also the only one who was not a pro scout which takes a lot of knowledge. It's the sum being better than the parts that I like. We're not built anything like Miami. It was time for a change of direction and now it's here. The NBA finals were coached by Scott Brooks and Eric Spoelsta...not the proven big name guys like Popovich or Karl....that explains the movement towards new coaching blood in the league.

  2. I like your optimism but I don't think you need as much knowledge to be a scout as a coach. Perhaps to find the diamond in the rough but most top quality players stand out against the background and are easy to recognize. Usually the top 100 NBA ready talent level guys are not diamonds in the rough and are easy to scout. I think that given an entire year and hotels, expense accounts, travel, and tickets to games, most knowledgeable fans could be great scouts if you tell them what you are looking for such as rebounding, shooting, assists, free throw %, and intangibles like good teammate, finishes after contact, sets up other players, gets his own shot.

    Sorry I am so negative about the coaching staff, I just don't yet see the quality.
