Blazers Stumble Out of the Gates in Europe

By RipCityRevival Posted in: RudyFernandez, NicolasBatum
It was a disappointing day for three of the four Blazers playing in Eurobasket with Spain falling to Serbia and Great Britain falling to Slovenia. The one bright spot for Blazer fans was France taking the day one win over their opponent, Germany.

As far as how our boys did specifically, well the stats don't look any prettier. Our main man Rudy didn't even see the floor in game one playing 0 minutes. I hope this isn't a sign that he may be injured. Maybe they are giving him rest now so he is fresh for coming games. We can only hope. Victor Claver, the rookie drafted out of Spain played only 7 minutes going 0/1 from the field with 1 foul and 2 turnovers.

Jumping across the slough, Joel Freeland of Great Britain had an okay day playing only 5 minutes but going 2/4 from the field and 2/2 from the line notching 6 points. He didn't have any other stats on the day.

The brightest star on the map this offseason is still Blazers Forward Nicolas Batum. Batum played 32 minutes for Les Bleus accumulating 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists. He shot 4/4 from two point range, but only 1/3 from beyond the arc. Nicolas also had 3 turnovers and 3 fouls in the win.

I have to question Tony Parker's motives playing for France. When he is the Point Guard and he only has 4 assists on the game, but notches 18 points on only 33% shooting. I have to question his decision making. On the positive side, he makes Turiaf look like a beast getting 15 points and 14 rebounds cleaning up after TP's slop. The prima donna needs to learn how to play team basketball especially when he has a rising star in Batum sitting on the wings knocking it down.

Lets hope nothing is seriously wrong with Rudy and that things can get back on track for our boys as they fight for European Supremacy over in Poland. Tomorrow, 9/8 Great Britain and Spain go head to head as France faces off against Latvia. Best of luck to ALL Blazers from Rip City!
