If a smile brightens your day, then BlazerDancer Eri is whom you want to be around. With a dazzling grin and an open heart she lives by the mantra, “Always smile, it’s contagious and it makes people happy.”
Born in Tokyo, Eri and her family moved to the United States when she was two years old. An active youngster, she played soccer and tennis and was a swimmer. At six, dance was injected into her life and she hasn’t stopped smiling and shaking it since.
“It made me more confident to be on stage all the time,” said Eri of why she chose dance as her focus.
Westside Dance Studio was Eri’s first stop, followed by a four-year stint as a Tigard High School Tigerette. As an international studies major at the University of Oregon, she rallied classmates as a member of the Cheer Squad.
Now Eri heads into her fifth season as a BlazerDancer. She’s been through thick and thin with the squad. Her rookie season she commuted from Eugene and in her fourth year she accepted the role of team captain. Now she’s staying involved and training with The Enforcers, the Trail Blazers Hood to Coast team.
With more to give, to learn and joy to spread, Eri’s looking forward to a new experience this season, she get’s to dance with her younger sister Lisa
. Four years apart, the two haven’t ever been able to dance together. The BlazerDancers are not only giving them that opportunity, but will help them make unforgettable memories they’re sure to cherish.
Performing is the key to Eri’s happiness and sharing it with others is the icing on the cake. “I can’t imagine myself not dancing,” she said. “I always want to make people happy no matter what.” And spread joy she does, all through one simple gesture.
