So today was the Spruce Up Laurelhurst project sponsored by HandsOn Greater Portland. It was an amazing experience. When I showed up traffic was a bear around the back side of the park. It turns out there was a movie crew filming there. Harrison Ford will have a new movie coming out that was filmed in Portland. This week they are filming at Laurelhurst. Unfortunately, he was done with all his scenes so he wasn't there today, but the rest of the cast and crew were.
The work itself was very rewarding. My group removed holly trees and ivy from around the intended flora and trimmed the brush that was growing over the road. While we were removing ivy, we also found lots of garbage that people had thrown into the bushes. A word to the wise, if there is a garbage can, use it. If there isn't a garbage can, hang onto the garbage until you find one.
There were two other groups working on the project. One group was edging the flowerbeds and another group worked on mulching debris to be used in the brush around the park. By the time we finnished the park looked great. Movie Star quality!
With as successful as the project was, we could have still used some more volunteers. Please Portland, find it in yourvselves to give back to the city and hold yourselves to the same standard you hold the Blazers to. There is still time to sign up for the next two projects. Feel free to take a look and sign up to help. I look forward to seeing some of you at the next project!
Glad you had a great time! I love those events. I totally encourage others to check it out when you get a chance!
Glad you had such a great experience! Can't wait to hear more stories from your future projects : )
