Game Six Promises Energy And Passion

By sarahhecht
Prepare yourself Rip City. The Trail Blazers mean business.

I made the rounds through practice today listening intently to understand the mindset of each player. I wanted to know what they think the most important theme is when heading into Game 6 and facing elimination.

Four words were used consistently to describe the mindset of the Trail Blazers; energy, team, focus and home.

- Energy was the first word out of almost every mouth. From the opening tip to the final buzzer Portland needs to play with life.

“Coach talked about coming out the right way and with energy,” Marcus Camby said. “I think we were a little lethargic in that game (Game 5,) especially in the second half. We we’re unable to execute our offense. We were unable to contain the dribble. Giving them the rebounding. For us it was pretty much the ball game.”

“We gotta be strong minded,” Gerald Wallace said. “This is the time now. It’s win or go home and that’s seriously the meaning right now so we gotta come out and be more focused and our main thing is be more intense. We gotta come out with energy and be intense.”

- Stemming from energetic play comes the concept of playing as a team.

”So the biggest thing is to go all out,” Roy said. “But at the same time we have to make sure we try to stay within the team concept and not try to take it upon ourselves to try to win the game for us.”

- Focus on all aspects of the game. End to end and top to bottom.

LaMarcus Aldridge said, “I think everybody’s focused and ready to go. I’d rather win than go home.”

- Protect home court. Success in the Rose Garden pushes the series to Game 7.

“In our building we seem to work a little harder than they do so it’s gonna be key tomorrow to come out and work hard and try to pick up our tempo a little bit,” said Brandon Roy.

“It’s not over. We don’t think by any means it’s over,” said Wesley Matthews. “We’re down 3-2. We have a game tomorrow at home. Every team so far in this series has protected their home and for the season. So we just gotta take care of business tomorrow.”

Camby summed the up the mentality going into tomorrow in one sentence.

“We’re just one win away from bringing this team back to Dallas and a game seven.”

  1. I'm still positive minded about tomorrow night, and I'll be there to cheer.

I wrote early this morning about LMA needing to put these past games - and their lack-luster performances - behind him. After listening to The Schonz on BFT today, I'm wondering if Aldridge really can put it behind him or if he's expecting BRoy to jump up and lead again?

LMA, needs to lead.He needs to play like a man possessed, because I am certain Dirk will be playing like that from here on out.

Dig in guys! Make Saturday a day of work, not rest.

  2. Miss Sarah: I was reading your new blog this evening and my wife said "Harold, it is time to go to work now!!!!." Guess what, I went to work LOL,

Anyway a few hours later and I finally got to finish reading about the team. I am glad they are on a positive mind set.

I think their problem is they are thinking to much and trying to hard.

Tomorrow is my day off and I can listen to Blazer TV and post all day.

  3. Talk is cheap. Can't wait to see if they bring the things they mentioned. I won't watch, check peek at the score here and there, until late tonight, when it's all over. Cowardice at its finest :)

I know this team is capable of winning this series, but I have really wondered what is going on with them. Stellar play from them we have yet to see. I guess I should be encouraged by the fact we have not played well hardly at all, and for only parts of games when we do, and we are only down by one. I am encouraged by that, at least in terms of next season. Perhaps the season was just too long. Perhaps there were just a few too many changes in the latter half of the season. Perhaps they will still somehow take care of business.

I love and admire this team for coming through when their backs are against the wall, for playing with more heart than just about anyone at times, and for managing to stay close and cohesive despite everything. Here's to hoping those elements are all on display tonight. Along with serious energy, team play, supreme focus, and a desire to protect home court that trumps whatever Dallas tries to throw at them :)

    Go Blazers!

  4. EowynAmarie: I too, don't think they are playing up to their capabilities.
I don't know the reason for it, but it seems like they are playing with the Mavs taking the home court games then hit them with a grand fanale in game 7. If they are doing that, I will kick their butts coming out of the tunnel, not pat it LOL.

  5. We've played well in spurs, but haven't been able to sustain it a full 48 minutes. Now is the time to do that and put some doubt in the minds of the Mavericks.
