Locker Room Laughs: Aldridge Clowns Camby And Matthews

By sarahhecht Posted in: LaMarcusAldridge, MarcusCamby, WesleyMatthews
Bad alley-oop passes and blocked shots. Normally these aren’t plays that are joked about after a game. But tonight was different.

Following the 76-111 blow-out defeat of the Washington Wizards the Trail Blazers locker room was alive with laughter and a feeling of ease and success. The mood was so light that LaMarcus Aldridge felt the need to fill the air with some friendly teasing of his teammates Marcus Camby and Wesley Matthews.

In typical post-game fashion media members swarmed around LaMarcus to get his take on the game. When asked about the miscued alley-oop pass LaMarcus couldn’t help but laugh.

“Yeah, um, that was a pretty bad pass,” Aldridge said while trying to contain a smile. “I tried to dunk it but it was on the wrong side of the rim... so we gonna work on that.”

“Camby makes it look so easy, but I guess it’s not that easy,” said Aldridge of the alley-oop combo. From three lockers down Camby jabbed LaMarcus leading him to dig right back, “I give you the shout out but then you get mad at me, okay... Well maybe Camby can’t throw ‘em either.” The two laughed for a few seconds before refocusing.

After the jokes with Camby LaMarcus continued with his media stand-up act by bringing Wesley Matthews into the mix. When asked which highlight stood out to him the most another wide grin crossed his face.

“The highlight that stood out in my head was McGee going and taking Wesley’s dunk. I thought I was like... ‘Oh, oh wow, okay...’ cause I saw Wesley had his step together so I was like ‘okay this gonna be a Top Ten Dunk’ and then it was a Top Ten Block!” said Aldridge while cracking up.

To give Wesley a little more guff LaMarcus gave the media a few directions for questioning, “Wesley said that he was gonna dunk it and then he couldn’t find the rim, and then all of a sudden he (McGee) just took it out of his hands, with one hand, so make sure y’all ask him about how that felt to go for the dunk and then not finish it at all.”

At that moment Wesley Matthews was walking into the locker area just in time to hear LaMarcus ragging on him.

As Wesley dressed and prepared himself for the media LaMarcus could be heard teasing him from his locker with shouts of “Give my arm back! Give my arm back!”

Then it was time for the media to follow the instructions laid out by LaMarcus. Jay Allen of 95.5 THE GAME started it off by asking Wesley, “What happened?”

In true Wesley fashion Matthews continued joking, “What’d it look like happened?” After a short pause he continued, “You asked me what happened and I asked you what it looked like happened?” After more laughter Jay clarified, “It looked like he blocked you pretty good.” Wesley laughed and said, “That’s what he does, he made a great play on the ball.”

As for how the moment of the block felt, Wesley recounted it with clarity. “I was able to turn down my screen and thought I was gonna have my second dunk of the night and the rim was there and then it wasn’t and my arm felt like it was about to come off my body.”

The explanation of arm removal caused another round of laughs as we all realized the meaning behind LaMarcus’ previous shouts.

Even with ugly missed alley-oops and being blocked in a big way the mood in the Trail Blazers locker room was fun and jovial. We’ve got some comedians on our roster and that’s just what they show when the media is around... I’m sure they’re even more hilarious without an audience.

Being able to laugh at mistakes is the easiest way to move past them. That is great.

I love your new profile picture. I B-Member (Weird Harold). If you can laugh at your mistakes or joke about them it makes it lot easier.
In bowling a 80 some year old woman was getting ready to bowl and she only needed like 5 pins to win the game. She got so excited she guttered her ball, and everybody was gasping and feeling sorry for her. In my delight, she put her hands on her hips, shook her head and said "Damn I can't believe I piched that bitch in the ditch. That was the best laugh of a mistake that I have ever heard.
