Head coach Terry Stotts joined former Portlander and current boss of TrueHoop, Henry Abbott, on TrueHoop TV to discuss the Trail Blazers' season, "not tanking," winning close games (both in regulation and overtime), point differential and Damian Lillard. It's nice work by both Coach and Henry.

  1. Casey, I know everybody is saying that we are not as good as our record shows, but we really are. the point differential is lots to do with the fact that he gives the newbies off the bench extra time and rotate them so they all get some playing time, that of course makes some games close that shouldn't have been close, but it is a good way to pave the future. Of course a certain amount of luck is added in a missed or a hit shot, as with Lillard missing the winner in regular season shot. but he made the last one, so it is still 50-50. Yes maybe in time the 5-0 in overtime will change, but who cares, it is just a sign of growth, our players never quit, and we find ways to win. All of that is worth its wt in gold in the future.

I am thinking in reverse to all those experts, that in time as our bench gets better, many of those close games will be actually an out and out win. As our starting five can keep up with almost everyone, our bench is starting to catch up, and we will be able to sustain leads better.

Of course we will still have our Toronto, Washington and Sac games but we will still have our blow outs too.

Speaking of Sactown, the rumble of the Seattle group on the verge of finalizing a deal that will move them to Seattle and become our I-5 rivalry again. I have already gained some animosity with them, so it will be quite fitting. Of course my look on rivalries has changed since I started reading blogs, so I welcome the new challenge.
