   Mike: I caught your blog early tonight. We played a complete game tonight. Very well executed.
   
   You said we beat the third and fourth teams of the West, we also beat the number one team of the West and will beat the number two team Friday. That is not to shabby for a bunch of hicks from the sticks.
   
   I sure liked BRoy's game tonight. How many assist did he get? We did everything the Mike R said we had to do. The main thing is we got another win when it was needed.
   
   Like you said the margin of error is getting slim, with Memphis breathing down our necks. but all we need to do is take care of business and control our own destiny

   So, my bro came to town. He works early, and has a puppy approaching one years old. So, she had to go do her doggy business and decided to bark at the door to let her out, waking me up at 7am after being completely hungover yesterday and exhausted. So, I'm tired, but I pondered staying up to even watch this game. That's how confident I was we were going to beat the Mavs. Mavs have been struggling, and they're entering the playoffs at a bad time. Also, watching the Lakers beat them gave me hopes that we'd go against the Mavs. I think we will. Despite our difficult schedule, I do not see the Blazers slowing down, and I do not see them losing ANY games except the last one of the season that will likely be irrelevant. However, all that being said, I did not expect a complete blowout like what we witnessed. Granted, the Mavs will be much better in the playoffs. They didn't play their best basketball today, but neither did Portland. They had the energy, but still looked sloppy. However, the defense was there. The Mavs are the best road team, true, but nothing came easy for them at all. Dirk hardly ever has as bad of a game as he did. The only player that did anything was Marion. And yes, Tyson Chandler is MUCH better than Haywood, but still, we stopped them well. The defense over the past 2 games have been championship defense. I'm feeling very confident with this team. I even like our chances against the Lakers. Not saying we'd beat them, but we'd give them a fight.
   
   And yes, I loved Roy in this game. His stats didn't show how productive he was. Once he gets his shot down, he'll be back. He's getting where he wants to, and doing what he wants to do fairly easily. He just is in a shooting slump. I hope he can get out before the playoffs start.

   hey barrett, i have to admit all four teams make me nervous yes everone says dallas, they are the strongest and yet weakest team in the playoffs, they have the skill to beat any team, and yet when you feel like they will come out and dominate, they fall misserable. dirk poccesses a lil problem when the game is close, cuban is a wild card as fans say with the refs, LA plays great against them and would love the home time. kidd and dre are wiley vets that can change things, the jet is the 6th man and game time killer, roy isnt himself but shows great IQ. rudy and batum show to have good games but arent consistent. blazers always fall asleep on one or two players that maybe not great against every team but against the blazers look like all stars. all those wild cards should make it an interesting match up im just afraid which mavs will show up...

   It was nice to have a cruise-control win against one of the big teams in the West. I'm still not sure why we couldn't have spared six of Brandon's 26 minutes to let Patty play while Barrea was in there. You know, little quick guy gives you trouble, try our own little quick guy to counter? It all worked out, so no one cares. Brandon did have some assists, which was nice, and the Mavs were considerate and didn't pressure him coming up the court except the one time, and anyway, we won, so why draw attention to the fact that Roy was the only Blazer--except the two in for the few seconds of garbage time Nate allowed them--to shoot under .500? Except that in the playoffs teams will make him prove he can beat a press, and falling in love with this rotation now can come back to bite us later. Everyone assumes Roy's jumper will come back any day now, and maybe it will, but I've not holding my breath. But, hey, he passed off well after penetrating, and we won, so no one minds the 33% shooting and less-than-stellar defense. Because, you know, he's Brandon, and not some uppity second-year guy who was lucky to make the team and has now been rewarded for his best game of the season with 47 whole seconds of playing time in the course of the next two games.

   EA told me about an article on Oregonlive by John Cazano about how the Mavs wanted to purposely lose this game, thinking that Portland would be the easiest matchup. I just got to ask, FOR REAL? No wonder Dallas loses early if they think Portland would be the easiest matchup. Also, the Mavs played their starters a lot. John says it was mainly the bench. Box score says otherwise. I understand the Mavs weren't at their best, but I don't think they just happily gave us the game.

   We still lack the killer instinct. Up by 21 and then let down. We got away with it tonight but what about next time. Maybe I'm asking too much. when you have a team down put your foot on their neck.

   Solid win for us, good job Blazers. Wallace is just playing very hard, the team is coming together alittle better. If Portland plays hard vs GS, then we wil be fine. I just hope they dont under-estimate em, Portland tends to do that with weaker teams, specialy after a win vs a good team.

    good post. yes, mavs would be best matchup right now, imo (even though we beat the spurs, i'd rather not see us drop to 8th to face them). with ouy schedule, though we have a couple nasty back-to-backs coming up, if we maintain our focus, we have only two teams that should seriously challenge us: lakers n grizzlies. and though the lakers game is a second night of a back to back, both of them are on our court. if golden state doesn't pull any shenanigans like they did against dallas and orlando, then we should be, well, golden for 6th seed.

    Excellent win! I was a little worried that tonite was going to be like the last game with each half a different game, but this time us doing well in the first half and then not so well in the second, but it was nice to see we played solid the whole game.
    
    While I think we match up well with the Mavs I don't think it's going to be as easy a playoff series that some seem to think it will be. Tonite was the final game of a sixth game road trip and the second nite of back to back for the Mavs so it was understandable that they were a bit flat. Our bench did well, but theirs did just as well and our bench usually are not near as good on the road. I do think we can beat them in a series, but I don't think it'll be easy and we'll need to win it in sixth games to do it.
    
    Of course we may not play the Mavs. MB is trying to jinx us into a 7th or 8th seed. :P

    I tell you, if we are behind in the first half, we play great the second half, If we are ahead in the first half we tend to play bad in the second half. Mike R said that we don't protect our lead well at all. As Ancientone just said, we don't have that killer instinct and we do need it.
    
    I agree with you that Dallas may not be as easy as some think, Tyson Chandler being out made it much easier for LMA, although Portland has a way of getting under his skin. OTOH, no one else will be any better then Dallas either, therefore I just want us to keep playing hard and keep getting better and play whom-ever.
    
    Too many fans are looking at the records and think all teams above us is going to destroy us. I worry more about the teams below us in that respect becuase of our tendancies. From here on out we just need to play our game and play hard, that will make other teams adjust to us and with our adversities that is not easily done, plus since we are a whole lot better since we got GW and Camby and BRoy getting healthy with more quality in their playing time, most including my beloved MB realizes how much better we are getting after every game.
    
    IMO, our biggest challange isn't who we play but to try to improve our road games record. We do that by first beating Utah on the road then the pesky GSW because those two games scares me most.

    Wow, great game but I don't think it was close to a preview of anything. We played a tired team who played their 4th game in 5 nights on the road while we were rested and desperate for a win. But, I do think we match up well against the Mavs and the Mavs do have a history of choking in the playoffs. I like Andre's attitude "We'll play who we play."
    
    How about that Batum feller coming off the bench. He's playing with a lot of fire. And Chris Johnson had a sweet behind the basket under hand hook shot. He can play. Now Patty Mills playing for 47 seconds was super retarded. Why 47 seconds? Thanks coach for the 47 seconds.

    We put Johnson in with 5 mins to go when it was over and during garbage time Dallas made a meaningless run and we still won handily. We had the killer instinct putting this game away early so Dallas could make a meaningless run during garbage time with no chance to win. So what? If it had been a closer game we wouldn't have put in Johnson and would have played it more seriously. As MB said the final score was not indicative of how dominant of a win we had.

    Ancientone: If I remember right we lost some games this year because of that. I remember holding the ball until the shot clock went down and casting off three pointers missing and then not being able to stop the opponents.

    This talk about not closing the door baffles me. I was talking back to the TV during the whole third quarter, because Barrett would go into the "Blazers-can't-close" refrain every time the Mavs scored twice in a row, and shortly afterwards we'd be back to within a point or two of how we started the quarter. No, we weren't extending the lead from 18 to 30, but Dallas isn't Cleveland. We had a great half against a tired team, and followed that with a good quarter where we answered every Dallas push. We never gave them serious hope; their only run came when the game was in the bag, and they wouldn't have gotten that rally if we'd put our hungry subs in earlier, instead of leaving guys out there who had done their work and deserved to be enjoying the win from the bench.

    all in all, it was a great win. we had six players in double figures in scoring (and one with 9 points) with no one scoing more than 19. this was a very balanced attack and we never let dallas get comfortable. i would have loved to have actually watched this one (i'll get to that in a moment), but it was exciting to listen to, nonetheless.
    
    there were so many great individual plays (pretty much every blazer made a contribution to the highlight reel) that i would not envy anyone putting together the highlights of the game.
    
    to be honest, i'm not too worried about the final score. haven't we all too often have seen the team on the losing end make things look at least somewhat respectable? haven't we done it ourselves? dallas made a mini run in garbage time. we were up until dallas made a three at the 1:51 mark. that would be the start of a 9-0 run to end the game for them. they made a little meaningless charge; nothing less, nothing more.
    
    as far as our shooting of three's is concerned, in checking the play-by-play, i saw only two shots from behind the arc taken in the last six minutes. sure, both happened to be inside of two minutes, but we know that Gerald and Wesley have the green light to shoot the three ball. it's not like we were tossing it up every play.
    
    now i have a huge bone to pick with the nba (yes, again). i was getting all hyped up and ready to go out to catch the game on nbatv, only to pull up the league's site and find out that the league, in it's infinite ignorance, decided to show new orleans-indiana. i can only presume that the decision was made to showcase the league-owned hornets despite the fact they were playing a sub-.500 team (who is likely to make an early exit from the playoffs).
    
    so, instead of having a potential first-round matchup featuring the #3 seed vs. the #6 seed (currently at least), the league decided to throw out a couple of #8 seeds. the only thing i can tell you is that the moron who made that decision obviously didn't go to my school!
    
    i thought i'd add a couple points of my own here (as if the previous one wasn't enough!):
    
    * happy birthday to Rudy today!
    
    * i'm very glad Mark Cuban had a great view of this particular game.
    
    * we need just two wins to equal Rice's projected total of 47, but if we hit Herr's projected sweep of april, we'll reach 50 wins for the second season in a row, ensuring us of the sixth seed.

    As much as I disagree with Islander about Roy is how much I agree with him about closing out the game :) When Dirk was pulled, it was OBVIOUS the Blazers on the floor pretty much quit playing, cause they knew what we all knew: Rick threw in the towel. The team didn't fail to close out because of a lack of killer instinct, I think they just were hoping the bench guys would get a run and were quietly lobbying Nate to make their hopes come true. There was never a legit threat in the fourth quarter that Dallas was going to win the game.
    
    Loved Roy's play in this game. Absolutely believe his steadiness, vision, and his decision-making will be very worthwhile in the playoffs. Also, his size is going to create problems for whoever we play :)
    
    Fun win, great game, glad they played well for my last game of the season. My only sadness was not winning courtside at the tweet up and not getting to say hi to Mike and Mike!

    I thought the game was boringly good and was tickled pink. There was in no part of the game that I was worried. Every little run they made, we answered. When Nate was trying to get Patty in the game, Dallas cut the lead to 10 but like you, I didn't think the game was in danger.

    @kassandra, I'm still saying sweep of April! I'll be honest, I'm a bit worried of Memphis and that's about it really. I don't think the Lakers are going to come into our house and play a serious game. It'll be nothing to them except a potential sweep. Also, Kobe and Phil don't want to play PDX in the first round. The media goes "oh no the Thunder are so dangerous to the Lakers", but I highly doubt that's what the two leaders of LAL are thinking. They don't want the risk of Portland in the first round, and if Portland beats Utah and Golden State these two games, it's a near lock that Portland won't be in 8th, especially since I see NOH dropping a few games. So that way the Blazers will be either 6th or 7th, which would be first round for the Lakers if we're 7th, or 2nd round. I think they'd rather have us in the second round than the first.
    
    Now, about these two games coming up. They are must win games, and if you don't win them, they are embarrassing loses. First, Golden State isn't in the playoffs, and has been hovering around 30 wins for the past couple of seasons. Second, being Utah, is that you need to win on the road. Blazers have to prove to us and themselves that they can play on the road. Also, Utah is on like a 8 or 9 game losing streak now. They haven't been playing good teams either. They are down in the garbage. They'd have their share of injuries, but there really is no excuse for giving Washington their 2nd road win of the season with less than a month to play. No excuse for getting blown out by Sactown (which they did last night). The only time they came close to winning, Millsap choked and made a ft, which allowed enough time for Okafore to make a circus shot and force OT.
    
    So, these are must win games. Then LAL comes to town. Who knows, maybe they'll go for the sweep, but I don't think they'll care as much as they did the last game, especially since we held them to only 84 points and made them work for it, so much that Kobe jumped in the air like he won a championship. I don't think Phil nor Kobe want to risk it, especially since now it's basically a lock for them to be 2nd seed, and they almost lost Pau and Bynum in last nights loss to the Nuggets.
    
    After that, it's the Memphis Grizzlies. Big game, and that'll be for 7th or 8th seed. Now, going back to LAL, who would you rather face in the playoffs? Memphis or PDX? I know Memphis has won twice against LAL, but those were when LAL were down in their tough times. Portland gave them 2 great games in their recent run. So, we're in 6th, Memphis is in 7th (I'm giving them the credit of not losing any games). Must win game, and honestly, I think we're the better team. Got to play that one hard, and got to win it. We have Memphis' number, so I believe we'll win that. The last loss, obviously, came at a bad time for PDX. That game will secure the tie breaker over Memphis, and since it's the 2nd to last game of the season, it won't matter if we tie on them.
    
    The last game @GSW will only matter if NOH is 1 game behind us, or tied (assuming they finished their season). I think that game won't matter, which will leave us at 49 wins, which I'd be fine with, but if that game does matter, we got to win that.

    We want the Mavs for multiple reasons: they are known for choking in the playoffs, they have no answer for our big guards in the post, we can throw a bevy of defenders at Dirk, they don't really have another weapon to fear outside of Dirk. Bring on Dallas!

    I thought of a new nickname for Nic Batum: The Cooler! You alluded to it to during the broadcast, Mike and Mike, when you mentioned how Nate puts Nic on whoever gets hot for the opps. Nic usually cools them off real quick, sometimes right from the opening tip.

    Herr: My only disagreement with you is embarrassing loses. All NBA teams are professional and are capable of bringing it on any given night, so no games are embarrassing. Infuriating because of the lack of effort yes. but not embarrassing. We are a humble team because we never feel we are that great and that is the way I like it. that keeps you hungry for wins.

    Hg, my personal beliefs are that if we're fighting for a playoff spot and want to avoid the Lakers, losing to a team that has had about 10 straight disappointing losses would be an embarrassment in my opinion. I'm pretty sure the Lakers losing to the Cavs would be embarrassing. I understand that there are no bad teams in the league, but some are FAR better than others. We have no business losing those games, and I'd feel pretty disappointed and embarrassed if we lost it.
    
    That's just my opinion though. The whole point is we need to win those games, especially in the position we are in. I'm pretty sure every Blazer fan is pointing towards Dallas rather than LAL or SAS.

    We have had a tendency to let down against bad teams, but the last two bad teams we played, Cavs and the Whiz, we beat by 41 and 35 respectively. Maybe it's Wallace's influence, but I think we should handle the Warriors handily. Of course this type of game does make me nervous. Beating the Thunder and then Mavs and losing to the Warriors would be like what we did on the road trip when we beat the Magic and Heat to only lose to a bad team.

    Herr: I understand completely what you are saying; I think our difference is you being 21 and me being 70. I long ago trained myself to not over-react to situations, saving myself from being too down in bad play, and too high in good play. The coach is training the team not to get too high or too low. Or instead of tidal wave type emotions keep the highs and lows like a rock skipping across the lake.
    
    There is so many factors that can change a game that to be embarrassed if we lose is wasted emotions that could cause havoc in the next game. If we go out and play our game the best of our ability at that given moment and lose then that just can't be helped. Maybe it was the refs; maybe LMA gets in foul trouble early; maybe one of the opponents get extremely hot with their shooting. Or we are dreaming about home cooking instead of BB. Remember it is a job to them and entertainment to us.
    
    Batum said regardless of what is said, you can't be up and aggressive every game. it is just impossible. So you try to minimize your lows, instead of maximizing your highs. I took that as the fact that you can't live on your highs all the time because what goes up can come crashing down real hard.
    
    That is why I said the team should not be embarrassed. You shouldn't be embarrassed because other then rooting you have no control over the outcome.
    
    But again remember I am 70 and have forgotten what it is like to be 21. Oh but to be 21 with my old knowledge would be great :).

    I have faith since we got GW we have started cleaning up our act of playing down to our opponents. Nate preaches so much about playing our game not their record that it might be sinking in.
    
    I really think we will win. I think Herr's prediction of a sweep in April sounds good.
    
    I also worry about the LAL game, one because they are good and two because it is on a back to back. True we should win the Utah game with ease, but we must not forget Utah's pride, I don't believe they will lie down for us. My point being that we might have to play with just as much intensity to beat them as we do against the Lakers.

    I think you can understand maintaining your high and low emotions. Do you still struggle at nights just to get a 100 and other nights you get strikes no matter how you roll the ball. I have never bowled a 300 as the Blazers has yet to win a championship--so in that case maybe it would be hard to minimize your high. and why would you want to.

    i've got a couple years to go before i turn 21, but i'm a major homer as well! i can try to appreciate a couple of other teams. ever since the Wallace-Pryzbylla/Cunningham trade, i've visited with some great charlotte bobcats fans during their in-game chat, and they've come into ours. my boyfriend is from outside of denver, so i give him some props on the nuggets (though he's more of a football/broncos fan). the point is, we have homers from age three (i.e. my sister) to those well past Hg's age. call me a homer, i don't care!
    
    Herr: we control our own destiny in this thing. if we win out, we win at least the sixth seed and reach that 50-win plateau for the third straight season. i think that would be a great finish; an excellent finish for this season. we've got a big one tonight about which to be concerned. we need to play at our level, rather than the level of our opponent. if we do that, we'll win. simple as that.
    
    Hg: it still irks me that they changed the game away from ours. as you know, i am a conspiracy theorist when it comes to the management of the league. and i'm quite sure the nba had some kind of ulterior motive for showcasing the league-owned hornets. just sayin'

    Kassandra: The up and Adam show was fun this morning, I laughed quite a bit also. You are young enough to be my grandchild, EA is young enough to be my daughter, Thinking that EA was 24 in 1997, I had a daughter about the same age. I lost her a few years back. My point being that this is three generations of Blazer fans having a great time.
    
    Herr: I think you misunderstand me, I am a heck of a Blazer fan and homer also. I get upset when they lose games they shouldn't have, but every team in the NBA has the same problem. I have just conditioned myself after 41 years not to be embarrassed or ashamed or get to down because of a loss. that is all I am saying, Not that you are different from me in the way you feel. Just call it self preservation on my part. I can enjoy bad games and good games because we are going to get both rather we like it or not.

    Hg: that's what i was saying. being a blazers fan/homer transcends age. i wrote a blog last week about how i became cognizant of the blazers while watching with my dad. i see my three-year-old sister doing the same thing. my dad's parents, who are actually a little older than you, follow the blazers from their lincoln, nebraska home. age has nothing to do with blazer fandom!

    I am not a bit ashamed or embarrassed about being a blazer fan. I long ago quit being embarrassed over something I have no control over. They are still my team to root for whether they play bad or not. I don't know why they didn't seize the moment. I don't know why they seemed to not care. Maybe they heard the news that Memphis lost and they could lay down.
    
    Anyway I am not embarrassed. I am sad we didn't win and perplexed because they were too lazy to play ball.
    
    Oh I haven't got to watch the game or I never got to listen to it so after I watch it I will probably be mad.
