Claver Named To Spain's 2013 Eurobasket Roster

By caseyholdahl

Spanish National Team head coach Juan Orenga announced today that second-year forward Victor Claver has been selected to play in the 2013 EuroBasket (aka the European Championships) in Slovenia later this summer. Claver joins former Trail Blazers Rudy Fernandez and Sergio Rodriguez on the roster along with Memphis' Marc Gasol, Minnesota's Ricky Rubio and Detroit's (ahem) Jose Calderon.

Notable names missing from the roster are Pau Gasol, who, after years of being Spain's workhorse, is stepping away from the national team, and Serge Ibaka, who says he was advised by Oklahoma City's medical staff not to play this summer (I'm sure it has nothing to do with his reported complaints about his role on Spain's 2012 Olympic team). Nikola Mirotic, who the Bulls selected with the 23rd pick in the 2011 Draft, was also left off the team.

Spain will be out to win their third-consecutive EuroBasket title when the competition beings on September 4. Both Nicolas Batum (France) and Joel Freeland (Great Britain) are also expected to play for their respective countries in the competition.
