Yet Another New Name In Chad Ford's Latest Mock Draft

By caseyholdahl

It's finally Draft Day and there's still flux in the seventh iteration of Chad Ford's mock draft, which was posted on this morning. At No. 10, Ford has Portland taking a player who he's connected with the Trail Blazers a while now, but today is the first time he's actually had this player as the pick ...
Steven Adams
Portland Trail Blazers
COLLEGE: Pittsburgh
AGE: 19
HT: 7-0
WT: 255

Analysis: The Blazers are hoping McCollum or Caldwell-Pope are on the board. But if they aren't? It will come down to Trey Burke, Steven Adams and Cody Zeller. It's a tough three-way race, but I give the edge to Adams. Given his size, Burke might struggle to play in the same backcourt as Damian Lillard. On the surface Adams might look a lot like last year's pick Meyers Leonard, but the Blazers could use more bigs, and Adams wowed them in workouts.
No word if my affinity for Adams' gold tooth is the reason why Ford slots the the 7-footer out of Pitt at No. 10. Adams noted again yesterday how much he likes Portland, thanks in large part because it reminds him of Wellington, New Zealand's capital. His personality would be a perfect fit in Portland.

As far as how his game fits, Ford is absolutely right that Portland taking Adams would feel a lot like Meyers Leonard redux (which I pointed out some time ago) and you have to wonder if there's enough minutes available to develop two project centers. But if it did work, and you had two super athletic centers patrolling the paint and running out in transition? That would really be something to build on.
